If your basic usage is email, Facebook or consumption why get a higher price phone or even an iPhone. Seems like cut-rate is good for consumers.

I agree if we're talking about a new iPhone. But the iPhone 5S is practically rock-bottom price when buying used/good condition and is still a massively capable phone. Great build quality.

I'd much rather buy a used iPhone for the same price as a new Android.

Wouldn't expect to see these outside of China considering they don't observe patents or license fees.

Would be interesting to hear more about the Fingerprint tech. I wonder how fast it is. And if the same tech will be used by Apple under/inside the display.

This was a good thing to steal from Apple at least. I did like the original marketing photo showing all of them at once. I don't really care if they're using the iPhone as an inspiration or whatever. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. View attachment 659875View attachment 659876
Uh, I think you need these more than he does.:p

That Mi phone looks like Samsung, HTC, and Apple had a drunken menage a 3... and Apple was just filming. The design ques in that phone are decidedly more Samsung and HTC than Apple.

I was referencing the marketing photo....

Not the phone itself.

Why do they have to choose the same colors as Apple though? They are boring... Would love to see some other options for a change. Like blue, green or red.

I wouldn't use an iPhone if they gave them away for free, but the 5S seems like a particularly ancient piece of tech, with its tiny screen...

Good to see Xiaomi making what looks like decent phones. I've never seen one myself, and I doubt they'll win vs Huawei P9/upcoming Mate 9, but the Mi5S spec/price ratio is outstanding. I wonder what will their OS update strategy will look like though.

These are top-tier specs for an android phone - Snapdragon 821 processor, 6GB RAM, Qualcomm's latest fingerprint ID technology. If it weren't for Xiaomi's MIUI skin on android I might be tempted

The S isn't trademarked
Here's a (long) list of all of Apple's trademarks

http://www.apple.com/legal/intellectual-property/trademark/appletmlist.html

It doesn't have to be specifically trademarked - they used that logo publicly in advertising - it helps if you get reoccurring likenesses trademarked but it's not a requirement - if you market something first using a specific likeness someone else just can't come along and piggy back off the exact same logo.

HAHAHHAHA.

Thanks for the good laugh.

Pointless dual cameras if the processor you're using doesn't have the ISP to match. Apple is the clear leader in both processor core design and ISP design.

Sure you can. Apple doesn't own a trademark on "S inside of a box."

Or for that matter, the word "plus." The "Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus" is a thing, you know.

They do when its not just a naming convention but the exact same logo.

Trademarks aren't automatic, you have to register them. I doubt you can register 5S in a box, it's too common.

In this particular case I doubt they've copied Apple. Phones had number identifiers, 'S'es and other things in their name before Apple made its first 'S' phone.

As for the presentation being similar to the iPhone 7 one, I remember the Samsung Galaxy Alpha one, which came long before that. In the end, it's a trivial method of showing off different phone colours.

That's just not true - copyright is automatic as well - you don't need to register it.

Patents exist for extra protection, its not mandatory though, as long as you can prove you created something first (a song for instance) and someone else copied it, the law is on your side.

Regardless I wasn't going on about the layout of the honest - they've used the EXACT same S logo as Apple, in a roudned edge box, after the phone name, with the same typeface!! Obviously they've directly copied that from Apple's branding of the S models - its the same logo and if you're denying that I'm not sure what planet you're living on.

"S is a common phone identifier, in this case, I doubt they've copied Apple"

Errmm..yeah, ok...

Its not just the iPhone design people are after, it's also the software. Android? No thanks.
No, I will argue, that after 8 years owning an iPhone, I don't buy it because of the OS. The OS, in my opinion, is outdate and boring. I have own an iPhone for the last 8 years, is because off all the money I have spent on iPhone Apps, music, etc. Not throwing away all that money to switch to Android or Windows Phone (which has nothing). The hardware that has been released by Samsung in their galaxy phones is on par or better than the iPhone. I hear nothing but great things from their users. I wasn't going to buy the iPhone 7, but when AT&T said they would give me $650 for my iPhone 6s, I was like, ok iPhone 7 Plus 256GB for $319, I can do that no problem. So, as long as the money is right, I will own the iPhone.

You are mistaken. Copyright and trademarks are not the same thing. Copyright is automatic indeed, trademarks are not and need to be registered. If in doubt, you can always educate yourself: http://www.uspto.gov/trademarks-getting-started/trademark-basics

PS: the name of a product, like "5S" wouldn't be protected by copyright. The term itself is too basic even for a trademark.

I don't believe you can copy right everyday words, like "PLUS" "CANDY" "CRUSH" (as the Candy Crush company tried to do years ago and failed). They are too common. And I would say the same thing for a number, just use in too many places. However, when it comes to a logo, sure, I would agree. However, you are trying to apply US Copy Right laws in CHINA...China will just laugh at us.

Anyway, as for the phone, the price is ridiculous cheap for a phone with those specs.

Bring on the lawsuit. This one I actually think is rightful
Why a lawsuit? It's not like Xiaomi came up with this in less than 3 weeks. This is obviously something they've been working on for a while as well. Plus it's not like Apple was the first company to use a dual camera setup.

Dirty fingers probably means poor so probably can't afford an iPhone.
Are you for real? So because you have money your hands are NEVER ever dirty? There's no need for condescension here....

Too bad it runs android, the only thing holding me back from something other than an iPhone is IOS.

Android is Android, but at least has better specs than the Note 7, costs half the price, and shouldn't explode.

Android? No thanks.

Does an OS that gives you options without having to need a jailbreak really turn you off that much or is this just another form of baseless criticism if only to prop up Apple?

Options like more malware, inferior security, long waits for updates (if you get them) or inferior Apps and ecosystem? Please tell me how these are baseless.

You make it sound like ALL Android phones are like that. Too bad your dishonest.

Resorting to insults because you don't like the truth?

I'll rephrase for you. 95% of Android phones suffer from the points I listed. Except for the inferior Apps which obviously affects all Android phones.
