Any Chinese in the market for an iPhone will buy the real thing. Apple is killing it in China at the moment. It's an aspirational brand and Chinese with money don't want a copy.
That's an American sensibility. These phones aren't really for Americans. These phones are primarily for the Asian markets. In Asian markets, China specifically, the apps matter more than the hardware. In that regard, iOS holds no advantage. If someone can get their WeChat on iOS or Android and get the iPhone look for way less than an iPhone...Yea, I just don't think that many people who prefer the iOS platform are jumping ship to a Chinese knock off. Someone who prefers Android and doesn't mind bouncing around from phone to phone, sure it makes sense. They see iPhone-like features on the cheap. Are these phones even sold in the US at this point?
Lawsuit? In China? Against a Chinese company? lmao, indeed.Wait until the lawsuits start lmao
Really nice looking phone, because it’s copied the iPhone.
However Apple will not take any notice let alone take them to court as it’s not Samsung and not currently a major conpetitor, that’s the only real reason Apple takes Samsung to court, to kill the main competition.
That's because the numbers say the Chinese flagship buyer does think like the US buyer. There have been hardware clones galore over the years, and iPhone keeps growing in China.I’d argue that mainland Chinese people generally see these as luxury items more than an aspirational brand similar to LV, Rolexes, etc. It’s why they get copied. From a feature perspective, there isn’t much to differentiate from the Xiao Mi.
One thing to realize about some of us Americans is they think everyone outside of the US thinks like them.

You forgot one important thing, Apple had to calculate: risk. Now that the iPhone X is very popular, everyone is copying without the fear that the consumers won‘t buy it.Lets not pretend that apple couldn't sell the iphone X for $800-850 though and still make huge profits even accounting for R&D. When you sell as many phones as apple does, R&D ends up being an absolute miniscule cost of the phone.
Having said that I don't blame them for selling it at $1000 if people will still buy it at that price
I don't get it. Why can't they come up with any sort of original design? Either way, all it does is eat away at other Android manufacturer sales. No negative affect on Apple at all.
No, you’re just saying that I am. There’s a difference. If the EU wants no-rules capitalism, or enforced fairness and respect for rules and governance, it should be consistent. They give lip service to respecting IP, so let’s see how open the EU is to Chinese klepto-knockoffs. I don’t care if it’s Apple or anyone else they’re stealing from. Is the EU a market for stolen goods or isn’t it?LoL you are acting like the EU has a duty or responsibility towards Apple or something.
You are funny.
When all you value is specs, all of the above can be disregarded. I suppose it has 6-8GB of RAM, like that One+. Woo hoo? Pixel 3 is apparently going to be super-impressive with a really nice, super huge notch.Which is inferior to iPhone 8 CPU and GPU, as the support, ecosystem, App Store, materials, integration, security and go on.
XiaoMi is loosing market shares in China too, don't let the company fool you, they are trying to IPO in Hong Kong, and they release some financial numbers and it turns out they have not been doing as well as they eluded to. They were growing fast their first 2 to 3 years, but there has been significant drop and they have not really recovered.. Their mass volume phone have been RedMi which is just a plain Android phone that sells for 800RMB, not their top end Apple copy phones..It's a different culture over there. There doesn't seem to be any concept of IP so the manufacturers rip and build off of each other's designs. They honestly probably see nothing wrong with the Mi8's design but will likely never release it here knowing Apple will show the pants off them.
What are you talking about? No, you’re just saying that I am. There’s a difference. If the EU wants no-rules capitalism, it shouldn’t post otherwise. Might head over to the Fandroid forums in a bit to see how they're presumably now embracing the notch now that every Android phone and its mother has got one.
It is...it's just a question of how much of a fight Apple wants to put up to squash them and if they can do it in every market. How is this not patent infringement??
A lawsuit, with the plaintiff being Apple, and the defendant being Xioami. Lol. IP isn't just a USA thingThat's an American sensibility. These phones aren't really for Americans. From two feet away, the Mi 8 looks like an iPhone X. Period. Don’t admit it and you’ve tipped your hand. Don’t have a case? Now you’re being funny. Apple just won half a Billion dollars from Samsung for stealing design. What makes you think they couldn’t prevail again if they got as fed up as everyone else in this thread besides you? What are you talking about?
This is getting ridiculous. What stolen goods? Ar you talking about the notch(not an Apple original concept anyway) and the vertical camera placement? because that is about it when it come to similarities.
I would be glad to see Apple trying to sue Xiaomi in Europe for the Mi 8 just to see this ridiculous vendetta about it being a knockoff put to rest. But Apple won't do it because they know they don't have a case.
And the Mi 8 will be officially available in Europe.

Considering this is brand new tech with only a few models offering it, gauging everyday use is going to be pretty hard to do right now. But here's the tech being used and abused.Has someone actually used the under the screen fingerprint sensor? How well does it work in everyday use?
