It is beyond ridiculous when imitation products like this get this kind of undeserved attention. It is not even a shadow of the complete package that iPhone is. But it happens to strike a chord that the tech media has told everyone they want (ridiculous edge to edge screen), so apparently that it makes it worth talking about. Its pathetic.
You started with "vaporware" and ended up with "imitation product". It can't be both for sure. And it doesn't seem an imitation of anything, even if it resembles that Sharp phone. In today's world, everything resembles something else.

It would be interesting to see how exactly they solved the obvious problems with having a (mostly) bezel-less device, and if they did, this could be a very innovative product.

"Pathetic etc" is just in your head. And please, the iPhone, "complete package"? Utter nonsense. It doesn't even provide filesystem access (hence byzantine workflows and forced iTunes sync), so "complete" flies out the window.

I noticed this. I'm not sure why people care about a phone being edgeless. I don't see the benefit just yet.
When I'm using the phone, I want as big a screen as I can get. When it's in my bag or pocket, the smaller the better. Edgeless is the way to go!

I have concerns about the edgeless concept-- after using iPhones since 2007 I was issued a Galaxy S7 from my employer (for business use) and have had repeated "palm contact" issues where simple handling causes the phone to think I am tapping things on the edges of the display. I presume that will get worse when edgeless. Yes, software can detect things like that, but no way close to all accidental contact on the periphery of the device.[/QUOTE

What about "desensitizing" the edges around the screen? You'd have "virtual bezels" so no accidental touch, but still add to the viewable area.

Sorry, but I've got to correct you here.

The Mi 5 didn't bend. It snapped. :p

Or they could have asked the french designer Philippe Starck to design them a new phone that didn't have Apples trademark huge bezels
[doublepost=1477405782][/doublepost]

The designed by Philippe Starck is just there to give it a sense of legitimacy. Clever marketing, and are you seriously ignoring the history of Xiaomi's blatant copying of Apple? Also, It's not like Xiaomi invented the bezel-less design/look. The concept has been out there in the real and virtual world for a long time, and Starck is a designer, not an engineer, so the R&D and tech needed to pull off the bezel-less look is not his doing. The R&D, engineering and tech are what I think Xiaomi has stolen from Apple. Those things have nothing to do with Starck.

That guy in the video really struggles to not touch the edges. Look how he's holding the phone (even dropping it at some point).

Hope Apple (if they do an edgeless phone) will implement something like iPad mini edge detection so you doesn't have to hold it a weird way..

"Junk" company? Dude, they're like the Apple of China.

I see no point in shelling out close to a thousand dollars for flagship devices due to the influx of great devices from Xiaomi and Oppo that cost half.
Perhaps in brand recognition. All other comparisons go out the window.

Who cares if they copied Apple? In the phone industry business, everyone is copying everyone. We have market trends and all of the OEM's R&D/marketing departments are aware of that including Apple. Or do you think the idea of having a 5.5 inch phone was Apple's?

Just like the bend gate of the iPhone 6 right;).
No actually. Nothing like that. Every iPhone passed bend tolerances. Unfortunately, those tolerances (no tolerances are) weren't designed for overweight people who put phones in their back pocket and sit down.

This is 100% a requirement. I was constantly hitting the back button on my Note while holding the phone with my left hand. I'm a lefty, sorry, Samsung. All they have to do is create a "dead zone" around the side edges that can be disabled for things like games when the use of touch on far side edges would be expected.

Or skinny jeans with the phone kept in the pocket for hours at a time

Xiaomi no longer is as popular as they were once in China compared to two years ago but they are quietly releasing some good products throughout this year. Another nice one, Xiaomi. Glimpses of the future iPhone.

I understand that some of the folks on this thread never use a case, but for the 95% of the rest of the smartphone users.....how do you put a case on this thing with enough lip to protect the edges? Edge to Edge is cool....but there are some downsides.

With lip of the case on my iPhone 6s plus, the screen is edge to edge on the sides.

Do you have personal experience with that issue? I wouldn't know.

"Concept phone" roughly translates to "can't blame us if this thing doesn't work".

Apple will test and release products when they're ready.

Right I'm assuming this will also be the case with Apple's replacement for the Thunderbolt monitor, Mac Pro, Mac mini, etc. Looking forward to these "the most ever tested devices in the world" to hit the market.

Have you heard of stands?

Are we not talking about a phone, a handheld device? So now to utilize this great new feature, we are supposed to carry around a stand so we can enjoy the edge to edge screen?

Maybe instead of a stand, what is needed is a holder / harness that holds the phone in front of you allowing your hands to be free, yet still remain completely mobile? Wouldn't that be great?

Are you implying that Apple rushes all products to market? Are are you thinking of any particular product they rushed? Nothing comes to mind.

We can bitch as much as we like. Someone has released a edge-to-edge screen; and SOMEONE hasn't!

Apple innovates but the market has caught up and now exceeds it's technology. If Apple don't deliver on better technology that wows the public more rapidly than I think Apples future isn't as bright as they expect.
