They took Steve Jobs' words to heart

Steve Jobs: "Picasso had a saying -- 'good artists copy; great artists steal' -- and we have always been shameless about stealing great ideas."

Why did they have the apple commercials in the first place??
This is embarrassing.

Xiaomi staff "uploaded the wrong content" to the sites

Sounds more like they accidentally uploaded the original version of the graphics that they took from Apple's website, you know, before they edited it ever so slightly to suit their needs.

Why hasn't Apple sued them into oblivion yet?

They shouldn't be allowed to do business in countries that value intellectual property.

This. Absolutely this.

There’s no such thing as bad press... This blows over and everyone know Xiaomi has products similar to Apple’s, but much less expensive. People get puffed up about corporate behavior, but in the end they really don’t care. They put their money in cheap and convenient. That’s how Uber has survived— by banking on amoral self interest winning the day.

Looks like apple wasn't smart enough to patent this.
You don’t have to “patent” this content. It’s protected under copyright.

If your first thought, after xiaomi even “apologizes”, is that Xiaomi must have been in the right, you need to pay more attention.

I don’t get too bent out of shape when products or services appear similar, but this isn’t similar. The “product” is one letter different and they marketing is so identical that the company that created it confused Apple’s material as their own. You CAN’T have any more proof of intellectual theft than that.

Xiaomi even in China is known as a copycat company; it's that bad. But it's hard to avoid them because they are so cheap in comparison... you know when you budget for 0% R&D, 100% sales and marketing, it's easy to sell thing for cheap.

If Apple decides to sue (and suing a Chinese company in China isn’t exactly easy) then Xiaomi may have to pay a few dollars.

Mom the other hand, this move just bought them a shedload of free publicity.

“Hey look, our phone does that thing those expensive iPhones do!”

Apple can't do much because they need China to make their phones. China protects its own so Apple would be wasting time and potentially making things harder for themselves....

Apple has every right to sue them.

if Apple has access to a screen recording of the page before the video clip was removed, and, if the recording shows that they removed the original "Khalid + Memoji" and "Apple Music" marking at the end of the video clip and put on their own marks.

Copying someone doesn’t have the same negative taste everywhere. If anything it could be seen as honoring someone in some cultures
Super fine however it’s when they profiteer over the copying, that it moves from flattery to theft. And the flattery statement really just becomes a smoke screen criminality. Did I really have to explain the obvious smh

They have the attitude of “just do it and ask for forgiveness later” although it is flattering to be copied, their courts won’t give two f*cks about some American lawsuit

Chinese is bullying the world in an unprecedented speed. Is there nobody willing to punish them for their ignorance and arrogance?
I simply cannot stop thinking about plagiarism when “Memoji” and “mimoji” looks awfully similar and the design looks so similar as well. No wonder why Chinese invent heavily in surveillance, easier for them to just steal stuff.
