Same AP I have + 2 LRs..... and having issues, X or 8 plus and 6s Plus and whole bunch of iPads and other sff works fine, XS max issues from 1st second ... sup with this ?
[doublepost=1537721005][/doublepost]Almost like its too sensitive to the signal, I used to be able to walk around my property with out loosing wifi, now it keeps going to LTE, I also don’t mt see wifi assist to disable it, is it not there anymore ? Or do I have to wait for all the apps to populate? My restore and initial backup finish yesterday and now just poor wifi signal :( so disappointing:(

Had to separate my 2.4 and 5 networks to two different ssid’s. Phone kept switching back to 2.4. It’s weird as my Apple TV is getting faster speeds than my Max. Lol

Was contacted by Apple Support. Installed a profile on my phone to hopefully send them logs.

Curious what routers people are running when this issue occurs?

They contacted you ? Im on same AP as op with few other APs....

I do notice if I put my hand over top of the phone the wifi signal bars go down even just the buttom, standing in same spot and everything....

Yes I tweeted them and they started via DM then I got a call from support. This was not normal customer support. He was gathering info and getting me the profile. Supposed to talk to him again tomorrow. Hoping to reproduce the issue (not at home right now).

My XS WiFi performance is definitely worse than my 8. Use to have solid 5G coverege upstairs and the XS drops off of it completely. I have separate 2.4 and 5G ssids.

To those who have had this issue, did you restore from any kind of backup (iCloud or iTunes) during your XS Setup? I set my device up as new and Wi-Fi speeds seem normal, but I haven't ran any kind of speediest.

I would think setting up as new would mitigate this issue, as the network settings would be "reset" out of the box anyways.

I did restore from a backup

On my Xsmax I have great WiFi at my house, but the 5g signal isn’t as good as the standard signal for some reason. This is the same as my X.

Restored from iTunes backup. Although the issue here I think with a lot of people is they may not "know" there is a problem depending on their network. I get 250mbps down from Comcast. So on the 5 GHz band I'll get that or more. On the 2.4 GHz band, I'll be more in the 60mbps range in a speedtest. Well 60mbps is more than enough that I probably wouldn't really notice any slowdowns during normal browsing/email/etc.

Notice this signal bar issue as well. When on 5ghz I can cup my hands over the top and if sitting in the next room the bars will go from 3 to 2.

When it switches to 2.4, cupping the top doesn’t have the drop in bars.

Note I’m only in the next room about 15ft away.

EDIT: never mind, wife’s iPhone 6S does the same thing when cupping the top.

Wish there was one thread to post to. While doing tests and gathering logs for Apple, I just noticed my wife’s iPhone 6s also just switched to the 2.4 band after being on the 5 band. Wonder if this is more related to iOS 12?!?

Thanks for confirming that you've tried these steps. One last step we'd like to double check and make sure you've tried is by turning Airplane Mode on, then restart the iPhone and turn Airplane mode off. Let us know if this has improved the connectivity or not.

Regardless of this, her 6s goes back to 5GHz much easier than my Max and stays much longer.

Lots of testing for Apple support last night. Biggest thing I'm seeing is that the Max really loves 2.4 GHz. If you can get it attached to 5 GHz, it'll stay on it as long as the signal is really strong (like in the same room). But even going one room over, it'll fall back to 2.4 GHz very quickly. Hoping to give Apple my logs today.

Coming from S8 Plus to Max where 2.4 ghz performed much better on the Samsung. My speeds are just as good with 5 ghz but connection on both phones can be sporadic. Been thinking about the Google router. Does anyone have it? Typically people use the package of three so there are no dead zones.....that could help address the problem. I'd be giving up a wired connection to 4k streaming on one TV. Does anyone have this router and does it stream 4k via wi-fi well???

Mine happens on a 3 node eero network. XS stays locked to 2.4 GHz.

I'm finding the same - I can get really, really fast wifi throughput at 5ghz on my 300mbps connection; but the phone gravitates towards 2.4 and then often clings to it, so I only get 60-80mbps.

I’ve been having the following symptoms: WiFi will drop even though the icon says it’s connected. Right before it drops, the speed will be less than half of the speed it should be. The phone will always choose the 2.4 ghz SSID first but will stay on 5 ghz if manually put there. Haven’t noticed any issues with cell signal or speed as I am usually exclusively on WiFi wherever I’m at. If I place my palm over the camera lens I can see my WiFi signal drop immediately.

Temporary fixes:
1. Toggle airplane mode
2. Disconnect and reconnect WiFi
3. Reset router
4. Reset network settings

All of these work to restore normal WiFi speed and connection temporarily. After a few minutes the problem will return.

Potential cause?:
I’ve noticed that toggling the personal hotspot options between off, discoverable, and non discoverable using the control center causes the WiFi to drop. Something is not syncing up between personal hotspot and WiFi settings in the control center vs in the settings app. At one point I toggled personal hotspot on via the control center which cause my WiFi to drop, but in the settings app it still said personal hotspot was off. Upon loading the settings app, the WiFi would reconnect to the network and upon going back to home it would disconnect again. Very repeatable.

Thoughts?

My Max won't switch from 5G to 2.4 like some here. But it will drop the signal pretty quick once I get outside my house. Never had that problem before.

I can get 120mbps from my 5G network on my new MacBook Pro, but Ive never seen more than 30mbps on the Max. Same 5G network, from the same location in my house.

Not super happy with it for sure.

It’s not designed to be. 5ghz is higher throughput but lesser range. 2.4ghz is better range but lesser throughput.
