iPhone XS Max XS max vs note 9

I wonder if Apple will ever give us sales figures for the watch. They are selling very well though and have been for a while. I love about 40 minutes outside of London and if I go out to the town centre on any given day I will see at least 5 and that’s without looking out for them. Those are just casual observations.

I see them everywhere in central London as well. I was at the apple store on launch day and the amount of consumers buying an Apple Watch was astounding.

Perhaps they will in the next two years.

Yep. I work in London but I’m on maternity leave at the moment. However when I’m travelling through London to get to work I see them all the time on the tube.

That’s it 1.38 million note 9 have sold world wide. That’s a debilitatingly low number.

There’s a reason why Samsung are offering double now on trade in value. Just like there are deals for a reason. They are really struggling to sell these devices.

"Hana Financial Investment estimated the shipment of the Galaxy Note 9 came to 1.38 million units in the first month, which is roughly 65 percent of the tally for the previous year's Note 8 phablet."

"Rosenblatt Securities analyst Jun Zhang estimates Apple received about 10 million preorders for iPhone XS series handsets in the first three days."

Almost 10 times the iPhone XS line orders in 1/10th the time (3 days vs 1 month). Womp womp Samsung. No wonder they're giving double trade-in value or a free Samsung TV. Can't give the Note 9 away.

And yes, absent the pen the Note has nothing special about it. Sales are low probably because there are many other 6"+ display, 6gb RAM, Snapdragon 845 and big battery devices already out that are much cheaper. There is nothing "special" about the Note 9 internals.

So 1.38 million in 120 countries. That comes to about 11,500 per country assuming it sold out which it didn’t.

11,500 devices per country, that’s terrible sales numbers. That’s blackberry z10 terrible.

Good luck next year when Samsung increases prices further. Judging by some of the Samsung users here they won’t get it out of principle.

Didn’t know about that until this morning.
Was reading the switch to iPhone X’s max thread on the note 9 subsection on android central this morning and some of the posters were citing this as a specific reason for the drop in value.

Apparently some posters over there tried to sell their note 9 but couldn’t due to a lack of demand and price drop due to this exact promotion.

Struggling to sell the note 9 and diminishing value for current customers are not a winning combination.

Yeah this is the issue.

If you upgrade often then financially iPhones are the better bet due to you get more for your money back. Same with iPads. I can still get over £450 for my Pro which is a year old even older iPhone models is the same.

The note line are great phones but it’s clear to me they are pricing this too high to compete with apple sales.

Something basic and nice you can do on note 9

With sales that low hope the note 9 is not shuttered. It’s not really the note 9 vs iPhone Xs max, it’s note 9 vs other android manufacturers, imo, that offer phones with 95% of the functionality for 50% of the price. Vendors like huawei set their sites on Samsung not Apple, irrespective of the hype from management.

The fact that maybe 50-60% you paid for your iPhone goes directly to apple and carriers pocket as pure profit.

I paid far cheaper price for a note 9 and at the end of the day I can use it to do much more. Much productive than speculating on sales numbers which haven't been confirmed.

Like the following. iPhone new shortcuts seems so rudimentary compared. How come the xs max that costs nearly 2x the price of note 9 can't even do such basic stuff. That's what I am interested to know.

Basic stuff? The max does everything I need it to do...many here are the same so that statement isn’t accurate at all.

Siri shortcuts for one is more useful than a lot of quick access tools I would use android for.

Some of the stuff you claim android to do most wouldn’t use anyway. Sure it’s nice to have options but what use is some of the stuff if people don’t use it.

End of the day you buy products on what you find useful and for some note 9 does things better but for me the software is still awful and it’s why iPhones are better for me.

You claimed Siri Shortcuts is useful. Then you said those in video i linked is not useful. BUT Samsung Routines provides capabilities that siri shortcuts provides but much more intelligent and functional.

So what is your stand?

So intelligent to playback when headphone plug in
Wow that is super trash, really, how can someone develope this feature =)))))))
I never want something autoplay when I plug my headphone in

In terms of day to day use, note 9 is much better than xs max in speed of opening common daily apps. It doesn't seem xs max has shown any improvement over x even though CPU speed has improved. The faster CPU of the iPhone (x or xs) doesn't do anything to performance. Strange.

Like I care if the Note 9 is a hair faster opening apps. Everywhere else the iPhone kills it. I won't be able to open apps faster if my phone dies 3-4 hours sooner because of the crappy battery life the Note 9 had compared to my Max. So that makes the phone more useless than opening the apps faster.

Video allows you to see reality instead of some of the rants we see posted here.

At least in this aspect (opening most daily used apps), XS max is clearly behind note 9. :)

No reality is the Max is faster than the Note 9. This is the one guy you trust in speed tests is PhoneBuff that tests all phones and as you can see how it killed the Note 9. I'll trust PhoneBuff that has 1 million subscribers vs a new youtube person with just 100k which he has proven himself for years. No thanks.

You seriously need to stop trolling everyone here. I am sick of your posts.

Note 2... what does he do, play snake and make a few voice calls each week?
Agreed. I seriously doubt he even owns one. He says he owns all these devices and has never proven it. For one, I owned the Note 2, and today it would be unusable as it was 4 years ago when I got rid of it.

I was looking at that deal. Double trade on my iPhone 6s Plus is $200. Apple is offering $150. I don’t understand how they determine their starting price. Lol

Everything you’ve posted has been hashed and rehashed in this thread over and over and over again. I’m not sure why it’s so important for you and boomer11 (suspended, hopefully banned) to gain approval from forum members. Most would agree the Note 9 is a damn good Android phone but most of us prefer Apple’s eco system and software support which might get you a few more years.

Why do I need it to be more intelligent? Siri shortcuts does what it’s intended to do.

I also don’t need to see what these Samsung devices do as we have a S8 and S8 plus in my house and my dad has a note 9. I’m already aware of what they provide

Since the Android bunch love bringing in YouTube videos I thought this one released a few hours ago that tested the speakers Of the Note 9 and the XS was another instance of defeatism. More accurate display, better camera and now speakers.

There's no comparison. Apple hasn't had a premium phone in years, forget about the emoji hocus pocus. It's getting closer by copying Samsung with bigger screens, OLED screens, curved screens, edge to edge screens, and finally a 4x4 antenna.

Iphone won't be premium until it copies Samsung and adds a pen to it's top phone. The Note 9 also has DEX that makes it close to a pc equivalent.

Iphone doesn't have 5G and won't for several more years.

No premium phone can make the blatant design compromises that are the notch and the protruding camera in the back.

A proper comparison is between XS and the S9.

Not sure what you are on, but the iPhone is more premium than anything Samsung has. It doesn't take just the build quality and what features the phone has, but the customer service and level of support that Apple provides kills Samsung. Apple is like Lexus with their customers and goes above and beyond a lot.

No one needs anything related to DEX on a phone period. That is why we have a laptop or tablets. Samsung also doesn't have real 5G. Samsung only has an Advanced 4G which is called 5G Evolution.

So all these phones that copied the notch, are compromises? I'd say Samsung phones look more dated because they don't go edge to edge any more like a lot of the competition has.

If you are satisfied with Siri shortcuts that's ok too. If you know what Note 9 can do that's fine too since the posts are not for you only. There maybe others that are interested to know :)

I just find Siri shortcuts is just passive in nature. You have to talk to it before it starts the shortcuts (or do stuff).

On the Note 9, using Routines the phone can automatically do stuff for you without you lifting a finger. That takes automation to a whole different level. I got so used to event-driven automations, using an iphone feels like going backward. So with a Note 9, you can explore "real" automation above and beyond what XS max offers. You will be surprised how much time you can save by letting Note9 doing all the menial work for you.

e.g.
- automatically mute phone in a meeting (using calendar entries info). Auto unmute after meeting.
- auto set ring volume based on ambient noise level
- auto set network profile (bt/wifi/nfc/location) depending on situations/locations
- auto redirect important calls to another phone when you are engaged (without using operator services).
- start call recording for calls from certain persons.
- auto change wallpaper based on events or periodically.
- auto send pre-defined SMS to contacts having birthday/anniversary/etc
- tap on NFC sticker - initiated certain tasks.
- pull files from certain ftp/http locations to phone periodically or when certain parameters changed
- set screen to auto-rotate only when certain apps are launched. Prevent unwanted screen rotation.
- selective sync files from multiple cloud storages to local folders
- auto start/close Map navigation when phone connected to car BT
- auto start music app when headphone is plug in
- start tasks on phone remotely by sending an SMS to phone.
- auto read out received text/email under certain preset conditions like driving/phone turned over/etc
- and MANY MANY MORE.

Some of the above list seems more like a liability than a feature and others can be done easily from IOS and the phone doesn't have to be tinkered with to do it and one is illegal in certain jurisdictions without consent. Anyway carry on!

Well, in the phonebuff test if you omit the ONE video conversion test, the Note 9 blows the XS Max away. Of course, they have to include that ONE test to make iphone looks good. The test opened 20-30 apps and Note 9 is faster in almost all of them except that ONE test. So anyone with a real sense, the Note 9 is better.

For a better side by side, this video gives better comparison (instead of the phonebuff one which continuously open app one by one).

Which of those automations I listed can be done (and how can they be done AUTOMATICALLY without user intervention)?

of course I know phone call recording is illegal in certain places :)

Or you know, still running an OS still that went into beta 17 months ago in May 2017 versus one that over 50% are on since beta 4 months ago.

In case you wanted something like the much-touted iphone Handoff/Continuity....well dont fret, Note 9 can do that as well :)

You have to set it up to get it started, no. Or does it read your mind.:)

As far as the video, just pick the one you want to slant the results.;)

thats a dumb arguement. ALL automation has to be set up once.

automation isn't having to say "hi siri" just to "automate". i'm happy that siri has gotten more advanced for ios users but it is amusing to see apple users so excited and happy to have a dumbed down version of something that android has had for years....
