Not true in general. My 3-4 years old note 5 is still very snappy and more than usable. My backup s8+ still performs the same the day I bought it. My uncle has no issue using his note 2.

I think $600-700 is the retail price you can get a note 9 in Asia without any strings attached. Actually don't think price dropped that much as during launch there were lots of freebies offered.
Note 2... what does he do, play snake and make a few voice calls each week?

A LV bag costs 20x more what a normal bag which can lasts just as long. So your point being?

I doubt many bought the note9 at $999. During pre order, Samsung thrown in lots of freebies like accessories and watch. For my case, it was the free upgrade to 512gb version.

If you lose 30% of value of max, in absolute term you still lose more money. Pay overprice for a max is still worse off.
The max costs more but the resale value will always be more than the note and it lasts longer because it it gets software support for years after the note 9 gets cut off.

Android phones aren’t so much limited by software updates as they are the fact the phones just start to glitch out and not behave in a normal fashion. I have never once had a random shutdown on my iPhone. That happened all the time on my galaxy phones. Everyone on an android phone knows how to do a hard reset lol.

The main point is both phones are good in 2018 and 2019, but the max will outlive the note easily.

If I could get one for £400 I would and at that price I wouldn’t mind if it spent most of its time in a drawer.
[doublepost=1538895363][/doublepost]
It’s difficult to say. The max is better for me but I know for some the note would be the better phone. An android user would pick the note and an iPhone user would pick the iPhone.

The note is a very capable phone and ticks every box. I prefer the iPhone but I can see that the note is a beast.

But that’s not what’s happening.
Android users are switching to the iPhone max Xs.

You can see for your self, the note 9 thread in the alternatives section is pretty dead and even in android central there is a thread in the note 9 section, filled with with note 9 users switching.

From a hardware perspective the note 9 is not the beast some claim it to be.

Android has been very stable since many years ago. What you said is just outdated. So I doubt you have extensively use a recent galaxy.

It’s dead every year. I think the android users are buying other, cheaper android phones like the one plus 6 and huwawei phones.

It’s a beast in the android world. A 4,000 Mha battery and 8GB of ram are powerful in the android world.

Congrats, all whopping 1.38 million poeple who bought one in the first MONTH will rejoice. "Hana Financial Investment estimated the shipment of the Galaxy Note 9 came to 1.38 million units in the first month, which is roughly 65 percent of the tally for the previous year's Note 8 phablet."

Im pretty sure Apple had more pre-orders in the first few hours. "Rosenblatt Securities analyst Jun Zhang estimates Apple received about 10 million preorders for iPhone XS series handsets in the first three days."

Numbers talk and BS walks.

Would never ever consider a phone with a curved edge display that distorts the image. It's a stupid gimmick Samsung needs to do away with. And polls show over 90% of Android fans on those types of sites dislike/hate it or "meh" about it too; 20.45% like it. At least the notch you can get the content to avoid that; can't avoid the distortion on 2 sides of the pone.

That’s it 1.38 million note 9 have sold world wide. That’s a debilitatingly low number.

Where I am at, I see more galaxy s9+/note9 now than X or Xs. Very few buy iPhone due to its overpricing.

But he’s not going to be able to use chrome for much longer as google are cutting off support for older phones.

How is using Samsung browser. I helped him disabled chrome.

Galaxy 1,2,3,4,6,7,8. I learned my lesson. Every year it’s the same BS promises about how great touchwiz was. Then they named it Samsung experience and it’s the same story. It’s a good phone, but it’s not the BEST at anything if you really think about it. Name me even 3 things the note 9 does better than any other phone.

He uses it mainly for Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube and calling. No issues whatsoever.
A note 5 is showing its age. A Note 2 is downright archaic. No way anyone is happily using that phone, I’m sorry.

Not to this extent. I was Ali’s Sirois es by the thread on android central that didn’t happen before, atleast not in the note subsection, but there is one this year in with note 9 users switching.

That’s the problem. The note 9 doesn’t exist in a vacuum labeled the android world. 4,000mah battery on two occasions got surpassed by the iPhone X’s in battery life. Mind you that’s the Xs and not the Xs max. Throwing an extra 2gb of ram doesn’t make it a beast of a phone. There are additional components that make up a phone, ram is only one piece and coincidentally the 8gb isn’t standard on the note 9 line it’s only available in the higher priced variant and was readily available on a number of other android handsets throughout 2018.

If I worked for Samsung I would be sure to see more galaxy note 9 and s9+ over iPhones. ;)
It is what it is.

I haven’t been on android central for a while as I don’t have an android device. I only go there for the few weeks I have an android phone every year and it’s always quite dead. The alternative section on this forum is a lot more lively.

I’ve seen some people on YouTube switching from the note 9 to the max. However I think the die hard android users would rather switch to another android phone. I listened to the android central podcast a few weeks ago and they said on there that in the forums the android users were really interested in the series 4 Apple Watch after the keynote but were asking if it could be used with an android phone.

My issue with android was the lack of features compared to iOS. When I first started using android the play store in the UK didn’t even sell movies and TV shows. It was apps only. Many apps in those days like TV streaming apps were only supported by a handful of android phones and anytime you upgraded your phone it took ages for the new phone to be supported.

I was also frustrated with the lack of integration between devices. I was fed up of only having 16GB if internal storage and having to use an SD card and still getting out of space warnings. I was also fed up of Samsung ditching a phone as soon as the newest one was out. Closing down their big flagship store also put a nail in the coffin.

The phones themselves I had no issues with. They were stable and didn’t slow down.

I keep an eye on market trends. So I do frequent android central from time to time.

Honestly I was shocked to have seen the “switching to iPhone X’s max” thread over in the note 9 sub section. There are quite a few non disgruntled note 9 users that have switched each with their own set of reasons.

Again that was quite unexpected.

But the numbers are in for the note 9 and they make perfect sense.

I have seen the same android personalities switch to the iPhone as well. Again that was unexpected.

No actually there are quite a number of users switching over at android central, even a couple of mods seem to have gotten a max.

The Apple Watch series 4 is a great wearable, I can see why it would appeal to some android users.

Did you get yours yet?

Another thing the note 9 cannot do, work with an Apple Watch the list just seems to grow.

I’ve ordered it but I’ve got to wait until the 6th- 13th Nov. Hoping it comes earlier though.

That bites.

Don’t think it will though demand has outstripped supply and apple is trying to add additional manufacturers.
I know. Not expecting it any earlier but I’ll be on the lookout in Third party retailers. However I really think it’s in short supply so I’ll just have to wait but it’ll be worth the wait in the end.

No doubt, I’m loving mine, just picked up a multicolor Hermès model with an extra band.

That’s the thing it’s not a supply constraint if they are adding a second or third fabricator, it’s a demand issue.

Quanta is at manufacturing capacity and apple is adding compal to the list, according to rumors.

To put things into perspective, q2 2018 had about 4million apple watches sold.

Estimates are showing about 20 million units will be sold in the q4 and the last two weeks of September. That’s without adding the second manufacturer which will begin production in November.

Demand has outstripped supply, 5x and counting.

What's everyone thoughts? I know this will probably end in a war but can anyone here really say the XS Max is better than the note? I've owned both since launch day and can honestly say the only thing about the iPhone that's better is the battery life. Other than that Note absolutely destroys it in every way.

Am I the only one that thinks this?
It's down to what you prioritize. To me the SPen in indispensable, and so I will pick the Note over most other devices, while someone else may want the Apple ecosystem.

What's more important to you?

Let's see what else is useless to you
- big screen phone
- water proofing
- background multi tasking
- widget
- grouped notifications
- app folder
- shortcuts
- etc

You do realize that the iPhone X’s max can do all that.

At least with the iphone X’s max you get a bigger, better, flat display with out the annoying curved display, which are susceptible to false touches and glare. It’s also edge to edge without a chin or forehead.

You also get next gen 3d facial biometrics, faster storage, the ability to record 4K at 60fps, better speakers, and a design that isn’t considered dated, that’s not opinion btw, it’s pretty much the same design since the note 6 edge/note 7.

Samsung recycling the same design every year, twice a year on two or three models since the 6 has become extremely dated by any rational standard.

Let’s not even start with software based advantages the iPhone has over the note 9
I’m pretty sure I already listed them in this thread several times.

Oh and you can’t use an Apple Watch, that’s actually becoming a deal breaker for many.

Ps don’t drop the soap....err note 9. Heard the stylus is prone to breaking, not saying it cheap, oh wait yes I am. Because it’s cheap. :).

I would say enjoy your note 9 but it looks as though you really want an iPhone X’s max but it is priced out of your price range or you work won’t allow it. It is what it is.

Remember when you used to advocate for Symbian over the apple iPhone. That didn’t work out so well for you.

Have a pleasant Sunday.

I didn’t word that properly. I meant there is a scarcity of the watch because Apple simply can’t keep up with the sheer demand.

Yes I can’t wait for the financials to compare numbers. The Apple Watch is definitely gaining momentum, it might require its own category on the balance sheet next year.

I wonder if Apple will ever give us sales figures for the watch. They are selling very well though and have been for a while. I love about 40 minutes outside of London and if I go out to the town centre on any given day I will see at least 5 and that’s without looking out for them. Those are just casual observations.

There’s a reason why Samsung are offering double now on trade in value. Just like there are deals for a reason. They are really struggling to sell these devices.
