These aren't movies I bought on itunes. They are ones from my collection that i have ripped.

Ah my bad man. Sorry I couldn't be more help

Wow - NOT!

Where is iTunes extra? They don't even support their own services and content and yet they keep adding other channels which are not supported outside of the US.

This is my biggest issue with Apple TV. All these special features that came with allllll these movies I bought and I can't even watch them unless I boot up my computer, download a few gig file and watch it on my computer? Come on man! This seems so half baked it's shocking it's in the apple category. iTunes extras would actually help iTunes sell more movies because I know a lot of people holding off on buying digital because of a lack of special features. Add in iTunes extras and publicize the hell out of it and watch sales go up! Seems simple

I do not understand why people keep on saying it is competitive towards ITunes when it is available on your iPhone or iPad. So what you are saying does not make sense at all.

It makes total sense. Apple is fine with it being on your iPhone or iPad, they are just never going to let it be on the AppleTV. In order to watch movies via Amazon Prime on your AppleTV, you have to use Air Play. Not as convenient as having it directly on your AppleTV, which would offer the best most seamless experience. That experience is reserved for iTunes.

Same here. Although, I watch on my iPad or iPhone using a VPN currently. :)

To be fair, I watch most stuff on my iMac, but it'd be so handy for me to have it on the Apple TV simply so my parents can access it easily! There's only so many times I can teach them how to use Airplay!

Forgive my ignorance, but...

Just saw this post,
Want to buy Apple TV but im not decided. I don't live in US, so I guess all this nice content its unavailable for me right?, what about if I have an Apple ID for a US account?

Thx.

Sorry for the post in this thread.

Puddles of this stuff is mostly US only.

Once again what does that have to do with competing with iTunes? You are comparing to Amazon Prime streaming vs. iTunes which is not a reason for not having Amazon Prime. If I can watch my purchase from Amazon through the Amazon App on iPhone than it will be no difference if on Apple TV. As for Airplay it sucks and never works always gives errors and problems. Amazon Prime is not Vudu if we were talking about Vudu it would make complete sense at what you are saying, iTunes is not like Netflix or Amazon Prime but more like Vudu now that is competition.

It would be nice if it worked but I can't find a place to put in the code from my ATV on the PBS website. The search function doesn't come up with a thing, either. Pretty much a bust on the PBS side.

A-HA! Looks like the server was overwhelmed. Got it!

It doesn't matter. Amazon is a direct competitor to Apple at large and for that reason they will likely remain locked out of the best experience.

Airplay works flawlessly - we stream multiple HD streams around the house almost every day. If it doesn't work, you have an internal network problem.

Full access to the PBS app, which includes over 5,000 hours of content, requires users to sign in with a Facebook, Google+, or PBS account, which subscribes them to email updates through their local PBS stations.

PBS fail.

All depends on what you want to do. I cannot remember if you need a US Apple ID to "see" the US only channels / apps, or wether you just need the regional settings configured to a US city. I *think* it's just the region change.

I am in Canada, and I CAN see the US channels, as I have my region set to Cupertino, so I think it's just region based.

Being able to access content, ah, well, again depends. If I wanted to view something via the HBO Go app I would still need to prove I had HBO Go, which I don't, so I'm blocked at that point.

If I wanted to rent / purchase music or movies from the US, then I'd need a US Apple ID, but also would need US credit card info, which I don't have, so that locks down that side of things.

Something like Netflix however, that can be fooled, if you use a VPN / DNS redirection service (Unblock-us / NetProtect - this is what I use), and fake that you are in the US (I believe you still need to do the region change thing too) or whatever country you want. I currently have my Unblockus account set to be US, so I can access US content via my AppleTV.

If you have movies / other media that you wanted to view, that are not in iTunes, or you don't want to use iTunes, then you might want to search for PlexConnect. It does require a little bit of work to get it up and running, but it basically uses the Trailers app on the AppleTV as a "Plex Client", so you can connect to a Plex Media Server and then stream content to your AppleTV. It works rather well for me.

The new icons are completely flat, no gradient at all. Looks like some type of UI refresh is coming, even if it is just to make it similar to iOS 7.

Explain to me how to fix that internal network problem?

How does it not matter? Either you do not know what you are saying or just trying to find a excuse behind this. Once again how is Amazon direct competitor in streaming when iTunes is nothing compared to Amazon Prime, it would make logical sense if we compared it with VUDU.

Like I said, the best most seamless experience (non airplay and on your television) will be reserved for iTunes. Amazon is a competitor to Apple in a couple of areas and Apple isn't going to let them on their box.

Sorry, that's your problem. If you'd like to fix it, head to the ATV forum and people will be more than willing to help you out.

I've been using Airplay since the days of the first Airport Express nearly TEN YEARS ago. I have 3 AppleTV's and 4 Airport Expresses in the house, and they ALL work flawlessly. There is NO problem with Airplay as a transport medium. 'Problems' are nearly ALWAYS due to issues with the users LAN.

My question is how do we start turning off apps or reorganizing them so that the 90% of the apps we (broad generalization) don't watch aren't in the way?

If I remember right, it's just like the iPhone. Hold down the select button until they do the jiggle thing. Can't remember if they jiggle, but they do something.

saturday night live "weekend update"
Full PBS without cable?

thats great !

I got full PBS without cable even before it came to the AppleTV. It's called an antenna.

(Try searching for the RCA ANT1650)

Because Amazon Prime isn't a video service, it just allows you free access to content available through Amazon Instant Video, which *is* a direct comparison to iTunes Movie and TV show purchases and rentals. And Amazon Instant Video is what Amazon would want to put on the AppleTV.

So you are not going to help me with the Airplay situation because I do not agree with you? How kind of you.

It's great that Apple is adding all of these new channels but I think it is quickly becoming clear that the UI for the Apple TV needs to be completely redesigned.

The process of trying to find something specific you want to watch is becoming more and more cumbersome, especially using the Apple Remote. There's no real order or organization for finding anything and the more that is added the worse it gets. Also, there is no way to just "flip" channels to find something that interests you at that moment which is the way most people watch TV. I'm still waiting to find out how Apple is going to "revolutionize" TV.

Too true. I just bought an Apple TV for my parents. I didn't realize how poor the interface and navigation is within apps until I started teaching them how to use it. I'm sitting there explaining while thinking this doesn't feel like the simple "Apple way" that they're used to. Feels cumbersome.

The PBS app is all screwed up right now. When trying to activate it, the web site keeps timing out. I'm guessing they were a little unprepared for the amount of activity they're experiencing.

It does, but they really need to revise the UI now and rethink the "screenful of icons" approach.

How about a way of searching for content across all of the integrated apps-- that would be nice. Maybe that will be 2014's next big thing.

Roku does that for two years now, they also have an awesome UI!

Seriously, I know it's unpopular to say this here, but Roku is a much better device than Apple TV if you take out the Apple-only eco-system out of it!
