All those golf simulator thingies will be obsolete with this. Why put up a screen and projector when a net will do and you can be immersed?

This is tech that is going to be impactful, but the lack of apps is making it hard for people to see it yet.

iPhone was just a fancy phone until the apps arrived. Then it was revolutionary.

I really think people that are convinced this is going to be some kind of main stream thing are just delusional

Simply making the technology better and better really is not going to get away from what a clunky Strange thing this is.

One day hopefully eventually this sort of stuff really gets to the point where it’s like normal glasses but we are so so far away from that.

By all means, ship products, and keep working and grinding on the problem, but we are not close yet

I bet people thought this about headphones at first.

Yeah the stalk/no cord freaked people out. Just like this thing will. Until you see everyone wearing it and it's no big deal.
I think it's pretty different though. People were already wearing Bluetooth neckbuds and even fully wireless earbuds at that point. People aren't wandering around in AR/VR headsets. Even in the home these things are relatively rare, and they don't even benefit from being an evolution of something people are already used to (wired earbuds > Airpods, regular watches > smartwatches, etc). Not to mention the creepy eyes.

EDIT: Also, I don't think people were so much "freaked out" as they just thought the AirPods stalks looked kinda silly. But those are a lot less onstructive than a face-computer.

Only for the poor shmugs who can't afford a private plane.

When's the Apple Plane Ultra coming out, by the way?
How about Apple Airline Ultra? Safest Apple Plane possible with best pilot. Specially constructed terminal and Apple Car ferry service to said terminal. You would login to your Apple ID via Apple One subscription service and pay the ticket using Apple Pay. Your destination of choice would be an Apple Store.
I mean, the first computers filled up entire rooms. Was the average person gonna buy that? No. But these things later evolve into something that’s palatable to the masses.
Same scale and level of innovation cannot keep happening thanks to physics among other factors. We’ve already gone far enough into this rabbit hole and other changes must be made to enable another breakthrough.

Let’s ALL be honest. Including me. We could come up with thousand excuses why we don’t like it that it might be heavy after a while or it could be very hard to navigate.

Deep down… we know that’s all BULL…
IT’S THE PRICE. If it was $1000 yeah I’ll buy one and everyone here too.

So those excuses are JUST excuses so we don’t have to admit that it’s the ACTUAL PRICE.

I wouldn’t get it if was 1K.
Not become I think it’s bad but because I just wouldn’t use it enough to justify even 1K.

New iPhones always get my attention because I use it everyday all day long.

I’m definitely intrigued by the technology of the AVP. Every time I see AVP I think Alien Versus Predator.

I love OLED. Hard to look at anything else after you have used a quality OLED display.

I need to try this headset in person before making a decision. Really need to see and experience how good the optics are.
Trying something before criticizing it? Unheard of!

This is the laziest possible response…

So is your argument just insert any technology.. And anybody skeptical of any portion of it is just wrong?

What about Betamax folks?
How about minidisc?

We could be here all night
Hey now, I loved DBeta. Best picture you could get at 480i. And actually there may be a parallel here: beta died in the consumer market, but was the standard as BetaCAM for decades. Minidisc was never quite so popular but it was used for news reporting long after everyone else had moved on to digital files.

What's the point of anything? I'm just expressive my opinion. I think they represent amazing tech which unfortunately is totally impractical. I admitted that in the future the idea may work out.

You waited 20 years for this product but 3500 is too expensive? So confused...

Yea, won't be buying one. Maybe in 10 years when they are like a pair of glasses. But it'll depend on what the laptops are like at that time. You can't compare the 10 years in the future glasses vision pro with a laptop of today.

Maybe. If it got very thin. But it's still just not quite what I'd want I don't think.

1. I'd have to have a keyboard. Once I have a keyboard, might as well have a laptop. Laptop will always have more power and better battery life due to the form factor. So, why not just get a laptop? I mean having a bigger virtual screen is nice I guess but honestly I don't often feel like I need a bigger screen.

2. With a laptop I can share what I'm doing with someone else without taking my glasses off. And I wear corrected lenses. So am I going to bring these pro glasses and my normal glasses? Just seems annoying. If I lose my glasses, I'm totally screwed too.
Where did I say it was too expensive? I literally said it’s steep but still cheaper than what it theoretically replaces. And also thought I was clear with the “once the execution is there” comment. It will be a few generations and price cuts before VisionOS is really ready. But once it is, people who still have devices with screens will quickly be like that person who still owns a flip phone.

I will probably hate it at first, then once it comes down out of the stratosphere I might look at one. Our university has a VR suite but I’ve never bothered to use it, no application. I just can’t get rid of this deeply uneasy feeling. Like what they used to call the uncanny valley.

Seems like you’re gonna have to keep waiting though, because the apps are just not there. It doesn’t run Mac apps, so that means you’re limited to iPad level productivity.
It literally can be used seamlessly as a set of multiple 4k displays for your existing mac. Would allowing it to be a self contained mac be ideal? Maybe, but my Mac is more powerful and power hungry than the VisionPro’s M2, so usually I’d rather connect to it. Plus I still need to carry keyboard/mouse for any serious work, until/unless there’s a major shift in how we type out long documents. personally I hope by 2030 I have a keyboard/trackpad compute slab, like a MacBook with no display and a set of AR “VisionAir” glasses. No other devices. No more watch, ipad, external monitor, TV, laptop, iPhone, etc. I can do all lightweight computing or content consumption on the VisionAir and bring out the keyboard compute unit for heavier lifting, I/O and more.

Yeah, at the end of the day, this doesn't get things done any more effectively. Just differently. And expensively.
It could've get things done more effectively, if they would've designed it from the ground up to examine and manipulate 3D objects in space. Lot's of engineers and physicians do already use 3D tools on a daily basis. But putting flat desktop apps on a virtual flat screen does indeed not increase productivity. The iPad is already peak flat user interfaces.

When they showed the woman in the hotel room wearing this goofy thing while unpacking her bags I nearly lost it.

This is the version of the future they want us to buy? You can't be away from your email for even the 2 minutes it takes to unpack your bag. You have to have it projected in front of your eyes.

I really hope this thing flops.

I’ll wait for Vision Pro 2 when they introduce it with smell to create a 4D version. So many possibilities with smell. Imagine poking something with your finger, place that finger by your nose and those vents emits the smell. Endless possibilities

This is absolute nonsense. Because Apple has proven once and again that people will pay any price for an insanely great product. It's the missing utility beyond early adopter excitement which stops VR adoption. Smartphones are the most useful computing devices known to mankind and a whopping third of the global market goes to the most expensive flagship category, which is also the only segment still growing. People are not stingy with buying tools they are actually going to use.

I didn’t buy the original iPod in 2001 but damn it was cool and I wanted one. I could tell it was a great way to have music on the go. I got a click wheel one later.

I didn’t buy the original iPhone in 2007 but damn it was cool and I wanted one. I knew exactly what I’d use it for and I bought a 3G the next year

I didn’t buy the original Apple Watch but damn it was cool and I wanted one. I knew it would be great with AirPods and running. I bought a used Series 3 a couple years later a new Series 6.

I can tell there’s a lot of tech in the Vision Pro but I just don’t see what problem it’s solving or anything I would want it for. And I really didn’t see anything that would get me to spend $3500 and strap goggles to my face for 2 hours at a time.
These examples are all established categories. Wrong metaphor.

Well I’d try using one instead of sitting in my Home Cinema.
Much cheaper than buying a new JVC projector by a long shot.

Battery life won’t matter for those using it as productivity tool (monitors) as it will be plugged in.
E.g. if ZBrush make a Mac version that allows me to sculpt in 3D while viewing in 3D - that will be awesome.

Battery life will be fine for workouts such as on my rowing machine when the inevitable rowing apps arrive.
Unless it has an anti-fog feature, perspiration-inducing workouts are gonna be a steamy mess inside that lens.

Hard to watch that 55" OLED while you're on a plane.
Just curious the audio seems to not be private like the person sitting next to you would prob hear it and get annoyed unless you can make it go to your AirPods 🤷🏼‍♀️

Not email, but TV. Today she probably has airpods in, and her phone playing some youtube video while she unpacks. Is having the video in one corner of your vision/the room so much different?

By the way, I do agree that using this VisionPro gen 1 product while unpacking is silly, but when an actual AR glasses model comes out? They'll be my only set of glasses as soon as I can get my hands on them. If i gotta wear glasses anyway, why not make them 'smart' and no longer have to carry other displays around!

Okay, listen, I respect the work that went into this. I can also respect this is a kind of beta hardware for something that might be practical one day in the future. Apple can totally afford to play around with ideas. So, I'm not knocking them for working on this.

However, let's be honest. How many people want to wear this thing on their head instead of watching their 65" OLED TV (or bigger for the price of this thing)? Who wants to take this on a trip instead of a trusty MacBook Pro that has 16 hours of battery life? Who wants to use this thing to write forum posts? Who wants to use this thing to do much of anything? Not me.

In fact there is only one thing I can see this being useful for given the battery life, but they aren't going to market it for that.
Nah this looks good if it works

Christ unplug for a minute.

Have fun waiting the 15 years it will take for something like this to be put into a comfortable pair of glasses.

I ain't waiting. I'm buying day one. I'm unplugged all the time, but I want the time I am plugged in to be the best it can be. There's a reason I don't watch movies on a 12" TV/VCR combo anymore, and this time next year there will be a reason I don't watch movies on an 11" iPad, 55" TV or 16" MacBook anymore. And a reason I don't try to edit video or photos on a 16" macbook anymore. and a reason I don't squint or hunch over to best see my screen when working or playing.
