Just swapped out my iPhone 7 Plus for a new for yellow tinge. New one is worse, and ALSO has the screen/body clicking issue that my first one did. I think Clickgate is just as bad. Holding the phone in my left hand, it's easy to make the phone click with my right hand - even when pressing on the screen. *sigh*

Not pleased at all.

I picked up my 256GB Silver 7 Plus today fearing that the screen would have issues (had to return 6 +, 6s + and numerous iPads before so v sensitive to screen issues). Pleased that its uniform and bright even if it's a little less blue than my 6s Plus.

For the record:

  • Factory: F2L - China, Zhengzhou - Foxconn

  • Year: 2016

  • Week: 38 (19.09 - 25.09)

  • Age: Infant

I had to purchase it before opening. Don't believe Apple will let you open a box without paying for it.

Genius Bar said they were "refurbished" but they did say because it is so early from the launch they are likely new phones. They brought an IPhone 7 "refurbished" from the back and I can confirm they don't come in a new box (no headphones, stickers, or charging connections). I elected to just return the phone since I was in my 14 day return window.

They aren't refurbished. In no way can they take damaged phones. Ship. Repair. Send back in less than a week. They are just white box phones. Phones specifically set aside for replacements. In a few weeks they will be refurbished but right now they are new.

Just picked up my 126gig gold plus today. Cancelled my order that was supposed to arrive in two to three weeks. Screen looks uniform with no yellow to be seen. Impressive phone. Here's a screen shot with the iPhone on left and Samsung note 5 while doing the file transfer between phones....

Sorry for blurryness as I attached a small file. Didn't want to hijack thread space. There really isn't any shadow on bottom right of Sammy....must just be photo angle.

Wow, hope its just the camera because that screen looks bad. Definitely not what Apple intended.

Yes true, but I recommend retail returns and then rebuy a new retail box. Once its swapped at the bar you are locked in to genius swaps cause your serial number wont match the box.

I've yet to see a good-looking iPhone 7 Plus screen. When people post images of really terrible displays and say, "Look, my screen looks awesome!" it explains why Apple won't be fixing it.

I've seen the good screens on display and have seen another in the wild so i know they exist..just a little tough to find right now.

No, you might not have. In the Apple Store, the lighting is designed to make screens look fantastic. Even my crap iPhone 7 Plus looked fantastic under their lighting.

just picked up a matte 128 7+ att unlocked, and the screen looks really good as far as i can tell!

tint is cleaner, less warmth at the bottom (even more subtle)

less bright at full brightness than 7 32, but not a dim display

MAY have a phablet keeper first shot :)

build is excellent too, no gaps or jagged looking crap like my 7 128 I returned

this pattern effect isn't at all visible on the actual display, its an artifact of the picture but this is surprisingly one of the better ones to accurately show the tint or lack thereof:

Yeah the camera shot just doesn't work well. Very happy with the screen. Better than the Samsung by a good margin. Not resolution. Sammy has the 7 beat.

That looks like my screen. My old iPad camera doesn't work so swell.

Not bad, still yellow at the bottom to me, but I'm picky. :)

Slightly dimmer at bottom but doesn't look yellow to my eye. The keyboard isn't seaping yellow :)

I'm pumped. As far as I'm concerned and of the panels I've seen, this is a "drop mic" unit for me. I'm getting soft on display quality in my old age but this has that pristine glow

Plus if this one doesn't let dust in like 6s plus did I'll be one happy camper

I'd be happy with it, too. As long as it doesn't click like mine does *sigh*.

Looks like mine. I'm glad you found one you will keep. I hope that dreaded left top corner dust issue on 6s doesn't return!

We'll see how dust proof this one is ;) fingers crossed. Man this is awesome. This definitely looks better than my 6s plus from memory.

Ok, after I finally received my iPhone 7, I now want to share how my screen looks. I don't have an iPhone 6/6s to compare it to, and my shots are from my 5s so bare with the picture quality.

What I noticed is that my screen has a slight yellow tint or is warmer(?) at the bottom, like some of you have mentioned:

D8EB48D7-9D4A-4CB0-8B88-273A27DFF884.JPG

In the shots it looks like the screen is tinted pink, but it definitely doesn't look like that in real life. Actually the whole screen other than the bottom part looks uniform clean white (5s shots definitely turned out really bad), but the bottom looks warmer. What I noticed and what I would like some of you to check who also have a warmer/tinted bottom part is the following:

FullSizeRender.jpg

At the bottom right (and left) corner the screen looks to be not as "pressed" or the background light (?) is not as attached to the screen as the top and other parts of the screen, heres a pic from a different angle (I'm sorry for the picture quality):
FullSizeRender 2.jpg

(Notice the little white dot at the corner)

I'm sorry for the bad picture quality the screen definitely doesn't look as bad in reality. It looks more like thadoggfathers picture in reality. It's uniformly white but you notice a warmer tone at the bottom especially when the keyboard is displayed or you scroll on white websites and compare the top to the bottom.

I please want you to check if your bottom parts look like they are not as attached /pressed to the screen as they should be, maybe thats why the tint/temperature change happens on some of the displays.

Edit: Managed to make some better pictures:

(Those lines are from the camera, and not visible on the screen.)

You can clearly see a difference at the bottom in those shots, although it looks pinkish (-I don't know why-), in reality it's more on the warmer/yellower side.

With so many 7's showing a warmer spot at the bottom, I'm now convinced that there's something pressing against the screen when it's assembled.
I honestly think that all 7's will have this.
I'm returning my 7 for a refund as it's just not acceptable. iPhones are to expensive to accept anything less than perfect.

My screen is warmer compared to my 6s plus, however the colors are far more accurate on my 7 plus. But I can't get my camera to capture it how I see it in real life. The camera makes it seem way worse. I'm pretty OCD, & if I thought my screen was "piss yellow" I would probably have noticed it right away & have been back at Apple already. I used to drive me self crazy in the past finding the perfect IPS screen TV with uniform angles. It got old fast lol.

I'll have to test again or ask my fiancé if she sees yellow. Maybe it's me lol. Although she wears glasses and I don't & have perfect vision lol.

Mine is ever so slightly warmer at the bottom. It's hard to see in most situations. I suspect very few screens are perfectly uniform. Apple just doesn't make screens for perfectionists. Most people don't sit down for hours and inspect their screens. haha! Maybe one day the technology will be so good all the screens will be perfectly uniform, but we're not there yet, at least not for a reasonable price.

If your screen is so not uniform that it's easily noticeable, then return it. If you have to sit with a white background and squint, then that's probably as good as it gets.

Just a quick note about my buying experience yesterday. I picked up the phone per reservation at an Apple store. I got lucky yesterday and was able to reserve a gold 128 gig plus at a location just three miles away. Anyway they had me wait 30 minutes because the Apple people apparently like to emulate MDs by making customers wait. So I had plenty of time to look at the display iphones which looked great. And when mine finally came out I was naturally anxious but behold, it looked just like the displays. When I discussed this with the sales guy he looked at me puzzled like he had no idea about 'yellow-gate.' I showed him the thread here and the bazillion views and he shrugged. Apparently he had never heard of this but then again, he's in sales not tech support. But he did activate many iphones. My last iphone was the 6Plus and this is a big step up display wise. The only adjustment I have to make is getting used to the lower resolution compared to the Note 5. Not fuzzy by any definition but not razor sharp like the Sammy. Really pleased so far with the speed and display. BTW, the gold combined with the Saddle brown leather case is great look.

I compared my wife's Rose Gold 256GB 7+ to my Black 128GB 7+ last night. Both Verizon, launch day phones. Overall, her screen is a bit warmer and has a pinkish tint to it, whereas mine is cooler and more neutral, with a bluish/greenish tint. Hers appears a bit brighter and has slightly better viewing angles, but I'd say mine is more uniform. Hers is quite dark in the upper right and the entire right side of the screen is slightly dimmer than the left. Mine exhibits the same characteristics but it's much more subtle. Hers is a C39 model, mine is F2.

We just need to accept the variances in these devices. Anecdotally, it's been this way for my wife and I since at least the iPhone 4, maybe even the 3G. Her screens always seem pinkish, mine bluish/greenish. She always gets a white colored phone, and I always get black. You'd have a hard time convincing me that Apple doesn't specify certain display manufacturers be paired up with certain phone colors.

I'm a graphic designer, sitting in front of three monitors calibrated to D65 with an i1Display Pro. All three are quality displays, but each look different. No two displays are going to look the same, even professional quality displays calibrated to the same standard using the same device, so we certainly can't expect that out of our mass produced phones. This doesn't mean some iPhone displays aren't defective, it just means that we have to expect a pretty wide range of tolerances on these devices.
