I switched from iphone x to 12 pro and clearly the 12 pro is much warmer (yellow). The iphone 12 and 12 pro have LG OLED screens while the X and 11 pro etc are Samsung. I will wait for the iphone 12 mini and 12 pro max that will have Samsung screens. I want to see if they are as warmer as LG ...

I think it is general that Samsung has better OLED screens ... Let's see.

Do we have any source confirming that current iPhone 12 models have LG panels? Same question for coming iPhone 12 Mini or iPhone 12 Pro Max? I have just red some leaks on this but didn’t see any 100% confirming it.

Because the X and 11 Pro didn't have any issues...those were Samsung screens. I had plenty of terrible X screens and went through a few XS and a couple 11 Pro. There are going to be duds regardless of manufacturer.

Exactly.

Exactly.

The X and 11 Pro DID have this exact issue. Every phone does. Search for iphone (model) yellow screen. You'll see a monster thread every year for this. You'll see all the same excuses in there as well.

Yeah I'm sure they will get updated here in the next week or so, its still early. Honestly watching HDR stuff on my 12 makes me kinda want to get an OLED TV lol, the colors are mind blowing (with TT off).
I would highly recommend it. We’ve had an LG OLED since 2017 and it was one of the best purchases. I was hesitant paying over 1k for a TV at the time but to be fair we spend that on phones so 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think it is just the way Apple chooses to calibrate them. My 12 seemed a bit warmer than my X (not "yellow"). It didn't really bother me, and indeed I may go back to stock (my X would give me a little eye strain from long usage), but I read on the Reddit thread of a way to adjust the screen (apologies if this was already mentioned in this thread). I tried it and I was able to get my 12 to look exactly like my X (or anywhere in between, if I so desired. This was what I read and tried (note that I didn't need to go past Color Filters, and didn't need to enable night shift):

I had a similar problem with my XS max and managed to fix it pretty well with this workaround:

  • Disable true tone, if its still too yellow continue with next steps
  • Go into accessibility > display and text size > color filters and turn on color tint
  • Set intensity to lowest
  • Set hue somewhere right of the middle for blue and adjust till the white looks the most white/neutral, if its too blue now continue with next steps
  • Set night shift to enabled all day (like from 4:00 to 3:59)
  • Set night shift color temperature to 'less warm', slider fully to the left
Note that the color filter was too blue for me and the intensity was already at the lowest so you counterbalance this again with a minimum nightshift

Hope it helps. Really dont understand why iOS doesnt just provide a color temperature slider like on samsung phones, it would fix all these issues.

I don't really care. It works perfectly for me. The paranoia here is a bit much, in my opinion. I particularly loved the part where Apple grabs all the yellow display models--every year--and, after four days, swaps them for real white models. Takes a lot to reach that far lol.

Just like you'll see monster threads about "horrible battery life" after every update.

Cool. Move along.

It actually didnt work for you. Yeah. This puts another color layer between you and the content
Wrong. It simply adjusts the hue, something Samsung OLED phones have been able to do for years. And you have no business whatsoever trying to tell someone else what works for them. That is outrageous. I realized you also started, weeks before release, this gem: "Bend gate incoming. Mark my words." Forgive me if I also take this thread as just as bad.

Ok man whatever you say. If you enjoy an extra layer of color then have at it.

And, like I said, this has been done since the iPhone 7. Same option in accessibility, same color filter. Guess what iPhone 7 didn't have? An OLED screen. As far as the bend thread, one has literally nothing to do with the other. This yellow issue has 10 years of history. Bending does not.

You are thinking of Androids ability to adjust the actual white point of the screen. Many have been asking for a similar option on iPhones for years. This color filter thing is not that.

So my “express replacement” iPhone 12 is arriving tomorrow (Apple never fails to impress me), but I’ve been psyching myself out thinking, “What if it’s not really got a pink tint, what if I’ve just convinced myself it has?!”

So I thought to snap some photos on my Tab S7, just in case Apple questions it and tries to charge me for the replacement or something. 😰

Here’s a completely unedited one:

And here’s one where I’ve spliced the left and right sides of the screen together for easier comparison (but not edited anything else):

So, yeah, I guess I feel vindicated. Good to know I’m not crazy. 😂

(I know this isn’t strictly to do with the warm colour temperature issue, but it’s part of the broader “quality of the OLED panels” debate, so I’m posting it anyway.)

Hey on the plus side, your colour temperature looks great. Nice, crisp and cool.

My iPhone 12 (left) v my wife’s X (right). Both have True Tone off.

I bought my iPhone from Apple online.

So we don’t have an Apple store here. I went to the xfinity store and compared my iPhone 12 pro to the one on display there.

I even showed the employee.

Max brightness on both phones comparing my phone and display phone. Display phone is notably brighter.
Display phone is less yellow.
I asked the xfinity employee do you see this too? He agreed.

I held up my hospital issued iPhone 8 and my new iPhone 12 pro in conference today. I asked which screen is brighter and whiter? Everyone said iPhone 8 screen.

Lmao.

I thought I had this issue with the X and tried all the various adjustments as detailed in this thread. Never did manage to get it quite right but after a few weeks I forgot about it and have been happy with the phone ever since.

Wrong again. I was talking about actual color adjustment on a samsung phone (and yes, they do have WB control as well, but if I was referring to that I would have called it that).

Definitely not perfect but. I’d def take a good look at the replacement before sending this one back

Could very well get a worse one

I should’ve put the /s at the end of my response haha. I was saying despite the X and XS and 11 Pro having Samsung panels, they had their fair share of flaws and piss yellow screens. I’ve been at this since the iPhone 5 re: piss yellow screen lottery.

Listen man, if you are happy with an additional layer of color that sits between you and the content, then enjoy. For those more discerning customers, and those with sharper eyes, it's not a true solution, and will look artificial and distort other colors.
