Holy crap, I just tested LG Oled Video.
Look at this on your 12, especially between 1:45 - 2:02.

IT IS NOT REAL OLED, real black on this device. The 12s are so bull.
Yellowish tint, no real OLED black.

My XS is mindblowing gorgeous, full black, rich colors.

Yes! This is what I’ve been trying to show people. At 1:55 in this video in a completely dark room at maximum brightness with True Tone on/off night shift on/off I see some banding that eliminates the jet black background I’m supposed to be seeing. Check and see if you’re getting the same thing at 1:47 in this video.

Someone said above YouTube doesn’t play hdr videos. So you can’t use that video as a test really. Since it won’t be hdr.

I have this problem with my new 12 Pro. Picked up the new phone release day, and since then just felt something was lacking in the display quality, but couldn’t put my finger on what it was. It was only when I started up my old XS to check something that I noticed the display quality.
Exactly the same display settings on both phones, and whites on the new phone are completely off colour. Rung Apple and having now to wait until Sunday for a slot at my local Apple store. Very disappointed.

“Luckily” my iPhone 12 has a pink tint on one side as well, so they’ve agreed to do an express replacement on it for that. 😏

I can live with the warmness (which is definitely an issue on mine, white is basically pumpkin orange with True Tone and Night Shift turned on... but it’s almost kind of relaxing in the evening with the lights turned down low 😆) but I won’t be able to live with the lack of uniformity.

Shame the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro are both LG panels (I remember reading the 12 Pro Max and 12 mini will be Samsung?), I’d totally pay the difference to get a Pro if it guaranteed me a Samsung panel.
I saw that Samsung will be supplying the OLED panels for the Pro Max and Mini aS well. Samsung’s panels have been superior and cooler in the past

Didn’t they supply the panels for last year pro models? People were still saying their screens were more yellow than their xs iPhones last year. 🤷‍♂️

Where did you see it precisely that iPhone Pro Max and iPhone Mini are getting Samsung Panel? There were leaks but no official evidence showing that is the case so really curious about any official link. Thx

Yes :), Every year people are saying that the new iPhone model has a panel that is more yellow than the previous model and we can see a lot of threads about this topic here. Personally, I have seen this issue too since my iPhone 6s and so on.

After checking how black is displayed on my 12 Pro I decided to return it. The pixels were definitely not turned off, instead they emitted a yellow/green light. I tried to take a picture of it, but wasn't able to capture the low light. But it looked like in this post (though it was not that intense): https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-display.2263200/?post=29109597#post-29109597
Tried it with the video posted in the other thread, a black picture and even could see it in the settings app (in dark mode).

Afterwards I held my iPhone X side-by-side and it was just black - like it should be on an OLED. So I called Apple and requested the return.
I will try my luck it in one or two months again, hoping it will be better. Until then my X must last...

Ok so the weirdest thing happened.

with True Tone off and the sun behind me the display was yellow. I switched it on and it cooled down and it’s now perfect?

True Tone doesn't only make the screen yellow. In artificial indoor light, it goes way yellow. Outside in natural light, it shifts it significantly blue. But True Tone on the 12 seems very very sensitive compared to past models.

I also had a weird experience, but was convinced I’ve just gotten used to it...but now you make me think otherwise.

I tried adjusting color tint (and played around with TT - eventually leaving it on), but didn’t like it so turned it off again...but now everything looks much better.

Surely not, right?

My express replacement arrived today. It is identical in every single way.

This is what they are like.

Time for me to get over it and enjoy the phone like I always do. You will too.
Ya honestly I think this is how it is. Software tweaks can fix this. Imagine how much time and effort we have put into this rather than just enjoying our new devices. I know I have scoured the internet for comparisons etc. I love this phone. The speed is amazinggggg.

My second 12 Pro definitely has a cooler screen than my first one. Don't have any comparison pics but the first phone compared with my Macbook Pro was noticeably warmer on the same brightness level. New phone is pretty much identical in colour temp to the Macbook. If you really look it's a tiny bit warmer but you wouldn't notice unless comparing side by side. New phone has pretty much no blue shift as well.:)
Just shows there are good panels out there.

I don't know if it would make any difference but the first phone was week 37 production and the new phone is week 43 production.

I’m always envious of people that can do this. I just can’t. I know what’s good, I know what’s bad. I’m not able to just shrug and accept it. Wish I could.

Fortunately, the Apple gods looked upon me with favor as my 12Pro looks great!

This is what I hope from my replacement next week. Using my MacBook Pro for work all day is just reiterating the colour difference on the 12. My current device was week 39 of production I assume the one arriving next week will be a later shipment than the pre order devices.

How are you guys checking the production week of your units? I thought Apple had changed the serial number logic to avoid people from doing this.

just curious, does your replacement begin with the letter N in settings, about, model number?

How do you find production week information?
