I should’ve put the /s at the end of my response haha. I was saying despite the X and XS and 11 Pro having Samsung panels, they had their fair share of flaws and piss yellow screens.
Must have been reading too quickly! I see now what you were saying.

Hey on the plus side, your colour temperature looks great. Nice, crisp and cool.
Honestly, I think it just didn’t show up on camera... I turned off True Tone and Night Shift to get a better look at my pictures, and when I turned them back on it just looked laughably, cartoonishly, pumpkin-orange. 🎃😆

I definitely have the orange hue overall, I just think my brain is better at tuning that out (I’ve already got used to it again and the colours in the non-pink zone look pretty normal)... the lack of uniformity has just been KILLING me though haha.

you would be correct if the issue were solely yellow tint, however the issue is worse.

the yellow panels also have reduced contrast and brightness compared to good units. This is the case every year.

Its almost like a yellow film is deposited in manufacturing that sits between you and the content.
In addition the yellow panels color shift neon blue off axis.

lots of defective characteristics that make using the screen cringy and displeasing to the eye

The screen this year is not shifting when you tilt it. Colour and contrast wise, it's is pretty good and uniform, but the white point is the only drawback.

You must have a good one. I've had 2 with terrible color shift.

"The screen" indicates that you think all 12 screens are the exact same. They are not, as detailed in this thread. Some are good, some are not.

I'm looking at the trend. The screens I've seen at the store, on YouTube and the one I got, don't seem to be shifting compared to the 11, XS, and the X.

Just went into the T-Mobile store to check their 12 Pro and damn the screen was a beautiful bright crisp flat white :(( can' t I just have that one??? My screen looked like it had just been scooped out from the bottom of a portapotty and then dropped in a urinal trough at a football stadium. Yes that's a scientific measurement if you were wondering.

The analysis video has made it to the front page of r/Apple

This thread isn't doing quite as well since its 'controversial'

Bonus round: Qi charging not working for many iPhone 12 users

I might grab the pro, if so I’ll wait until December or something. To see if the screens are better

Lol I've tried several times to buy a display unit. Seems like they are always perfect!!

Would be great to get a proper link pointing to a source otherwise this is just an assumption.
The articles stating the 12 Pros use LG displays misinterpreted the original report. The original report says 12 uses LG displays and 12 Pros use Samsung displays:
“LG Display supplied OLED panels for the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 while the rest of the models used Samsung Display’s.”

Whether you can trust the report is another question.

And just to reiterate, I had a similar experience to javisan. Unless I’m really unlucky literally all 10+ iPhone 12 and 12 Pros I saw in Apple Store Sydney were much warmer than the 11s next to them. All 12 and 12 Pro models looked similar. I made sure to turn True Tone off on all of them. Unless there is a problem with only the Sydney batch of 12s, I think all of them are like this. I’ll check again in a week or so.

Holy crap, I just tested LG Oled Video.
Look at this on your 12, especially between 1:45 - 2:02.

IT IS NOT REAL OLED, real black on this device. The 12s are so bull.
Yellowish tint, no real OLED black.

My XS is mindblowing gorgeous, full black, rich colors.
Was the video played back in HDR? I could be wrong, but I think the native youtube app will not play HDR on the 12 pro (at least in my case).

I was able to play HDR on my X.

looks like Lisa from mobiletechreview won the panel lottery at a quick glance, just now watching the review

also looks like she uses Color adjustment, just after this to her liking haha

I visited the closest Apple Store on 10/23 to compare the 12 Pro at the floor to mine and they all (100%) were the same or worse than mine. I could not find one that was better, otherwise I was ready to return it at the spot. Today I'm going to be near a different Apple Store and I will try to go in (not sure if they'll let me without a reservation or appointment) to take a look at the floor units.

I'm getting a bit used to mine (seeing it less yellow and more like off white / paper white), but as soon as I grab my iPad Pro and MacBook Pro, I get an instant reminder that my 12 Pro is noticeably different.
Update:

I was able to go to a different Apple store that was 5 minutes away from a doctor's office I visited today. Although they let me into the store, there were more strict guidelines and I was assigned a sales person who escorted to one of the product display tables. As such, I only had access to 2 iPhone Pro models. Both floor models were worse than mine: they were warmer than my unit and achieved a lower maximum brightness than mine. Same settings (auto-brightness off, True Tone off, night shift off). I also looked at 2 iPhone 12s (non Pro) and both were warmer. And as expected, the Pro achieved a higher max brightness than the non Pro.

There is a patently obvious difference in these iPhone 12 displays, when compared to the previous OLED iPhones. Could be the change in calibration to make it warmer or it could be an issue with 99.999% of the initial batch, at this point, I don't care anymore. There is a slim chance of getting a better unit at the moment. Unlike previous years, at least mine is uniform and don't see much color shift (if any) when looking at an angle. Blacks look amazing (as expected), and no issues with the gray. It just the damn yellow hue.

After having visited 2 different stores and checking at least 5-6 different Pro display units (and 3-4 non Pro), all worse than mine, I've decided not to return mine and re-purchase, as the odds of getting the same display or worse, are likely 99.9999%, if not 100%. Had I seen at least just 1 good display, I would be willing to go through the hassle of trying again. I made the mistake of selling my previous iPhone therefore I cannot just return and wait a month or two. I'll just need to get used to this warmer screen. If by any chance I start to see cooler displays in a couple of months, I'll try to have mine replaced via warranty.

Whats funny is I went to an apple store and I swore I saw a display better than my own but the fact that your displays were worse seems like the gamble in place.

On top of that, even one of the employees there told me with True Tone on he said it was "warmer" than he expected too.

This seems to be widespread.

dang thats a bummer! your conclusion seems rational.

I wonder how many swaps the most diehard people are gonna go through before giving up.

Do you have a psychological limit, assuming Apple will give you free reign? I think they'll cut you off at a certain point too if you go overboard, by whatever they deem that to be.

Something simple you can do with Android phones. I’ve never had one, but you’d think Apple would allow one to change color balance. It’ll happen someday I’m sure.
