This is interesting actually. Ive been arguing that the yellow panels have a film or residue under the laminate that causes this. But what if the glass itself is the culprit/whats defective? Interesting. Anything’s possible.
Come on now... are you serious?

Received my 12 Pro yesterday and tbh I’m pretty disappointed with the screen. Not only is it ‘warmer’ than my 11’s (and X’s) screen, it also looks way more dim and less vibrant. TT/NS off, maximum brightness. And fun fact: it shows less content?

May return it and give it another shot.

I agree it looks better with the filter. But I’ve found other colours look strange. As an example if you turn on light mode and click the share file/photos button you will see the boxes are in a strange colour.
Mine doesn't do that at all. The inside of the Messages icon for me is white, not gray as in your pic.I have intensity set to just a hair over from all the way left (the smallest amount you can move the slider from all the way left, to the right). My HUE is likewise just a hair to the right of center. Screen looks great in all areas. Granted, I was not bothered much by my slightly warmer (than my iPhone X) screen. But I wanted it to look like my X and now it does.

My 12 Pro display is a bit on the warm side but... it doesn't look that bad. It's not as warm as my Pixel 3A LG OLED panel, but it's definitely different from my Xr which is a bit too cool/blue.

well coming from an iPhone X I can safely say the 12 pro is very warm almost like there’s a colour cast over the panel. The colours don’t pop off the screen like my iPhone X so unfortunately I shall be returning the phone.

I also don’t think the sound is as loud from the speakers and FaceTime sounds more muffled compared to the X

not sure if to play the whole replacement game and just refund for now and see what happens.

Try what another poster did, swap through AppleCare....might get a better phone

1. Max out the brightness on the 12 Pro.
2. Turn off auto brightness. Settings -> Accessibility -> Display & Text Size -> Auto Brightness
3. Wait 10 seconds.

The screen will get much brighter. I'm not sure why it's different on the 12 Pro than the 11 (probably OLED vs LCD), but the 12 Pro doesn't get as bright with auto-brightness on unless you are in strong direct sunlight.
Seems as though the auto brightness is tuned differently.

Any chance that the the "Pro" version of the same display panel hasn't been activated? The picture comparison I posted of my phone was less bright than my 11 Pro Max with the same settings.. the panels should produce equivalent nits of brightness.. What if they didn't activate the "Pro" features on the displays and it's appearing like a normal 12? It looks like the teardown of the 12/12 Pro are the exact same panels.. just software limited?

Also, could be an issue if LG is the manufacturer of all of the 6.1" displays. Hopefully Samsung is the supplier for the 12 Pro Max. I feel like their tract record for panels has been better (referring to some laptops Apple has produced over the years with panels from both companies).

No, there have display brightness measurements posted online, and they are as advertised.
Try turning off auto brightness on the 12 Pro to see if it gets as brighter than the 11 Pro Max.

...no. There were no display software or hardware differences or otherwise any display differences noted by Apple between the 12 and 12 Pro. The Pro part does not refer to the display at all, or if anything the 12 has a "pro" display without being called a pro device.

Out of interest, for those who have seen a 12 Pro with a ‘good’ clean white screen, does it also have brighter and more punchy colours as well as a better viewing angle?

Just wondering if, white point aside, the flatter colours and poorer viewing angle (compared at least to my X) are common features across all 12 Pros, or just those with this tint issue? Thanks 🙂

I can answer that the "good" panels will 100% also be brighter, with better contrast, and viewing angles. That's because the yellow tint is a symptom of an inferior panel, not the only factor. This has been the case every year. The 2 12's I had were on 75% brightness and were dimmer than my XR at 35% brightness. It's not right.

The normal 12 maxes out at 625 nits vs 800 nits on the 12 Pro; so it seems like Apple software limited the regular 12..

That is not true. The iPhone 12 Pro has an advertised 800 nits max brightness while the iPhone 12 has 625 max brightness. Both are 1200 for HDR content. If they are the same exact panel, this is just a software limitation.

Try turning off auto brightness on the 12 Pro to see if it gets as brighter than the 11 Pro Max.

I don't use auto brightness because I'm one of the users who suffer from PWM and have to "triple click" the side button to activate reduced white point (I've worked with the Accessibility Engineers at Apple who advised to to do this).

Ah, I stand corrected. And I haven't looked at iFixit's report myself but what I've seen mentioned is that they're the same display and even interchangeable. What I meant by Apple not noting any software/hardware differences was more along the lines of the Pro having any screen features/qualities that made its display distinguished from the regular 12. It seems max typical brightness is the only thing, but max total possible brightness is even the same.

Was this with auto brightness on or off? My iPhone 12 Pro with auto brightness on does not get as bright as my iPhone 11. However, if I turn auto brightness off, it gets much brighter than the 11.

Has there been any actual confirmation of the display manufacturer(s) for the 12 and 12 Pro displays?
