Was this with auto brightness on or off? My iPhone 12 Pro with auto brightness on does not get as bright as my iPhone 11. However, if I turn auto brightness off, it gets much brighter than the 11.
I never have auto brightness on

I can answer that the "good" panels will 100% also be brighter, with better contrast, and viewing angles. That's because the yellow tint is a symptom of an inferior panel, not the only factor. This has been the case every year. The 2 12's I had were on 75% brightness and were dimmer than my XR at 35% brightness. It's not right.
I’m curious. So did you end up switching iPhone 12 pro and end up with a good one? What’s your status?

We're publishing an article about this so here are my previous photos in one image with labels. We didn't make any adjustments to the photos other than combining them into one image.

The comparison within the pictures is shown pretty good but comparing the two pictures is a little harder as the wood is different colors in the background.

Well comparing the two photos would just show you how much effect True Tone has, but the main issue at hand is that regardless of True Tone the 12 Pro is more yellow than the 11 Pro, so the individual photos still serve their purpose illustrating that.

We're publishing an article about this issue tomorrow. I shared these photos earlier in this thread but our graphic designer has placed both in one image for easier review. He didn't make any adjustments other than stitching the photos together.

Some site or macrumors?

awwwww snap. Here we go...

I had the same thing happen and they were saying they hadn't heard of anything...
Yeah they said that too. I sent a photo of the difference and they connected me to a senior technician and he wants to setup a call with some support/engineers

Just make sure you take into account that some 12 screens exactly match or exceed quality of past year screens thats the thing I never see in articles - acknowledging that there is a group of bad screens and a group of good screens, and its a crapshoot from which batch your phone comes from. I keep seeing articles that look at a single screen and assume all are like that one - not true. Some are good Some are bad and that’s the real issue - and the real outrage. That apple would allow inferior screens to coexist with good screens and hope the consumer doesn’t notice, for the sake of profit.

Just got an apple store appointment to have them look at it. What process should I go through to swap things out quickly?

I have AppleCare+ as well.

Exactly the same comparison im getting with my X and 12 Pro these images are spot on, and that's the reason mine is going back.

Ive spent days convincing myself its me.... then I pick up my iPhone X I still have kind of set up and the screen is beautiful its like I've had cataract surgery, sharp bold colours and crisp whites the apple page showing the iPhone 12 colours jumps off the display in safari yet on the 12 pro its like a cast over and dead.

I wonder if they thought they could get away with a cheaper panel maker because of less store visits during a pandemic so less people making the comparison with display models?

I have not seen or had this issue since the days of an iPhone 3GS, ive been pretty lucky since but these panels awful unless its the new type cover glass that's the problem?

I was lucky enough to snag a genius appointment today. Although the rep agreed my screen was dull, it took some pleading to finally get it replaced. When he brought the replacement over, he layed out 4 12 pros: mine, his, floor model, and replacement. Mine was dimmer then the other 3.

When I got home, I compared the X and 12 pro video playback with several movies. The X was still more vibrant with colors. I even turned off auto brightness which made the 12 pro brighter than the X and the 12 still played dimmer. To muddy the water, I pulled up some sample 4k HDR vids online and compared both screens again. I honestly could not tell a difference; no brightness variation. This leads me to believe the coding is different with iTunes movies.

Anyway, unless Apple admits the screens are poor quality, I guess I will be a fan boy and keep it for now.

Appreciate the effort some are going through by contacting Apple, but, nothing will come of it. This has been an issue since the iPhone 4 days. Apple does not care. Bloggers blog, writers write, influencers influence...it doesn’t matter. Rather than waste your time, why not just return the phones and re-buy until you are satisfied? Much easier.

Not this crap again. Old phones drift to a bluer color temperature. Please don't publish an article comparing a brand new and very recently calibrated phone to a year old phone that hasn't ever been calibrated unless you have something to say that takes all of that into account.

I’m having this issue too. I downloaded a completely black image and put it on full screen in a dark room, the screen doesn’t turn off as it should, it rather looks Gray or even greenish and then after a few seconds it goes to a perfect black. I did the same with my iPhone XS Max and all pixels turn off immediately as expected.

Go to the color filter settings accessibility>display&text size> color filters. Turn it on and adjust the hue until you find the color display you like. done.
