Wife’s iPhone X vs iPhone 12 Pro. The iPhone X is slightly cooler, but you can only tell if you put them side by side, and the difference doesn’t even really show in photos. She hasn’t even noticed a difference. I wouldn’t be surprised if the difference is due to aging. OLED screens in particular will change over time because the different color subpixels wear out at slightly different rates.

If we’re going to nitpick the new screen, I think the bigger issue (on my wife’s 12 Pro anyway) is that it has worse off angle color shift... the screen gets a bit of green tint when viewing off axis, whereas the iPhone X stays more neutral. It’s kind of hard to see in photos though.

edit: Both True Tone and Night Shift are off on both phones.

Exactly the same comparison im getting with my X and 12 Pro these images are spot on, and that's the reason mine is going back.

Ive spent days convincing myself its me.... then I pick up my iPhone X I still have kind of set up and the screen is beautiful its like I've had cataract surgery, sharp bold colours and crisp whites the apple page showing the iPhone 12 colours jumps off the display in safari yet on the 12 pro its like a cast over and dead.

I wonder if they thought they could get away with a cheaper panel maker because of less store visits during a pandemic so less people making the comparison with display models?

I have not seen or had this issue since the days of an iPhone 3GS, ive been pretty lucky since but these panels awful unless its the new type cover glass that's the problem?
Yeah dude it’s the ceramic shield

You’re right. It is hard to see. They look fine To me. I have yet to meet one buyer who turned down a sale because of screen calibration. When it does happen the earth and the moon will collide

I’m having this issue too. I downloaded a completely black image and put it on full screen in a dark room, the screen doesn’t turn off as it should, it rather looks Gray or even greenish and then after a few seconds it goes to a perfect black. I did the same with my iPhone XS Max and all pixels turn off immediately as expected.
Can you post a video? How many seconds does it stay in that weird state?

They look ok, what's worse is the text is no bigger on the 12 v X/XS/11pro, what's the point going to this phone for a bit bigger screen, it just has 1 more line on the bottom lol.

I will agree. any issue I’ve ever brought up to Apple support the rep always says he’s never heard of the problem. It’s either silly or I’m a unicorn 🦄

Yeah they must train them that way, unless they just started yesterday lol.

Yes! This is what I’ve been trying to show people. At 1:55 in this video in a completely dark room at maximum brightness with True Tone on/off night shift on/off I see some banding that eliminates the jet black background I’m supposed to be seeing. Check and see if you’re getting the same thing at 1:47 in this video.

I think you’re just seeing HDR vs no HDR. YouTube is currently rolling out the HDR feature and not everyone has it yet.

I had the very same issue. I opened this thread about it:

It’s really difficult to capture it on video with my other phone, so I edited with brightness and contrast set to their max levels, as you can see there are a few seconds of green before it goes completely black

This happened with my 11 Pro Max as well, but I thought it was a software issue, since I was still on 13.5 until I sold it to upgrade to the 12 Pro. I'll be getting mine tomorrow and will check for all these issues.

We're publishing an article about this so here are my previous photos in one image with labels. We didn't make any adjustments to the photos other than combining them into one image.
It would be also interesting to compare different iPhone 12 models and see if there are differences. Because if they are all the same or pretty much then this is for sure a trend but if some tend to be on the obvious cooler and others tend to be on the obvious warmer then it will be a different story.

Pretty good iPhone 12 pro screen!

The more I use it the less I notice the yellowing (apart from when using my MacBook Pro) the blue shift is annoying me more coming from LCD. Specially in a darker room if I tilt he phone the slightest bit off axis it goes from warm to teal which is annoying when watching videos or even browsing through apps since you gotta tilt it to reach parts of the screen. It reminds me of looking at my XR through polarised glasses.

I have the issue of raised blacks, but only at minimum brightness. It’s the same exactly on the replacement device so I bet it’s normal on these panels. It could even be something intentional to do with how they deal with burn in.

For those that think they don’t have it, go full black background, dark room, minimum brightness. You’ll see a grey/green cast across the display for a moment or for a while.

for me it goes away at higher brightness levels. What doesn’t go away on either phone is grey blacks near to light objects. Much more pronounced than on the 11 Pro. Again, identical on both 12 Pros. Bet it’s normal.

I have two iPhone 12 Pro's and I noticed a slight difference between the two displays. The difference
is especially noticable when looking at an angle.

I snapped some pictures in the dark earlier which I want to share. Display options like TT are turned off
on both iPhones. What do you guys think ?

Seeing this as well. When the screen is at minimum and near minimum brightness with a black image in a dark room, I can see the backlight but if I turn the brightness up the blacks are pure black.

Are you pleased when you look at them directly so not from the sides? This is the most important I believe.

The left one is better but I‘m not sure if good enough. Satisfied?
