Well I got my hands on a 12 and it’s display to my eyes are better than the pro lol part of me feels like I’m getting caught in the weeds here smh but here is how they look. Too many choices and variables this year where in the past which iPhone to get felt like a given smh.
11 pro on left 12 pro in the middle and the 12 just unboxed on the right
The regular iPhone 12 looks much better than the 12 pro and a bit (just a bit) warmer than the iPhone X.

The 12 and the 12 Pro look equally bad to me. The 11 Pro looks amazing. I would keep that 11 Pro in a heart beat and wait a couple of months or even to the 13 at this point.
Lol that’s probably the reasonable thing to do but feels odd to go a year without upgrading for me. I may try one more panel lottery on another 12 pro and if that isn’t satisfying call it a year and keep the 11 pro. Thanks for the feedback!

a year wait too, for what will probably be another round of the lottery judging by the fact it's never not a thing.

Took a picture of my 12 pro with my iPad 11 pro, what do people think?

Looks a little warm when I compare to my goldy locks unit, but its not bad and not hardcore jaundice-y.

IF you're happy with it I'd keep it.

IF you do wanna roll the dice, I'd do express replacement + keep the better one. May not be worth just voluntarily giving it up for one that very well could be worse

ymmv

Yeah I like it after seeing other's post pictures of theirs, I'll see if I can get a picture with another iphone for comparison, but when I look at the 12 pro screen the white's look white to me so thats a good sign.

This may have been covered but what’s express replacement? Should I call apple about a potential replacement? I was planning on seeing if any local apple store stock shows up and buying a new 12 pro comparing The two and keeping the better one

they put a full hold on your card and mail you a replacement

if you do Genius Bar, they swap it. they're not gonna let you compare screens, open a new replacement unit and let you re-neg on it (afaik)

its been a bit since I've been in swap hell though, so someone more experienced can chime in

last time I did an express replacement, it was something I absolutely was replacing since my XR had light bleed through the rubber gasket down the whole left side. it was something I absolutely had to swap for

So would you suggest I call apple and say this is an issue and ask for replacement? Thanks in advance for hand holding I wasn’t aware of this process. I don’t have a problem having a hold on my card if it means not having to check store stock daily for a PB 256gb pro to randomly show up. They’re in short supply and it’s the only model of the pro I want. If apple can issue an immediate replacement that would be amazing

Can y’all tell me what this looks like

Crank it up all the way, brightness.

but looks good to me? what seems to be the concern? text looks crisp too which is some sort of metric/criteria of panel quality imo.

I think its been stated, but if you like your panel you shouldn't be getting an internet opinion or going down the rabbit hole. only you can be the best judge, since you'll have to live with it and your eyes tell the full story.

only if you suspect there's a problem. no reason for doubting

only if you find it to be an issue. if you have friends or family with one, maybe compare it to theirs or some demo units? see what you're up against?

only they can evaluate whether they'll help you or not but I'd just be transparent with your concerns and see what they say. Generally if you're willing to put a hold on the device for $1k or whatever, I'm sure they're ok with it. I wouldn't really be overly concerned with the tint personally it looks good overall, I dunno if its the pic or not but text sharpness seems a bit dubious (this is all just imo, take with a grain of salt).

ignorance is always bliss lol.

if it were me - being a screen snob - I might take a crack at it.

Rule of thumb with these threads, for anyone:
I wouldn't let someone convince me on the internet when I have a good panel, that mine isn't good.
and vice versa, I wouldn't let someone convince me a screen is fine I'm not happy with. thats just me tho :)

theres' two types of users: those that stumble into a thread like this and are full of doubt all of a sudden

then me, who suspects there's an issue, and goes to look and see if there's a thread like this out there. hope that helps

You’re right in that turning off True Tone does bring the displays closer to parity. I enjoy the True Tone feature and will be keeping it on regardless, feels easier on the eyes to me. Here’s a comparison pic with True Tone off and then again on between my iOS devices.
I’ve uploaded unedited jpegs also from my Sony a7iii comparing 11 pro 12 pro and iPad Pro
To me it seems like a matter of personal preference. All these displays have different characteristics. I tend to prefer the iPad Pro best of the bunch
To me that’s a very nice screen on the 12.
