Had an F18 serial iPhone 12 which was really yellow and had severe colour shift on the vertical. started giving me eye strain. Went to the apple store and checked against 3 iPhone 12s and 3 iPhone 12 pros and all looked the same - minus the brightness on the regular 12s. Exchanged through the carrier and switched to an F17 serial and it's much better, still very slightly yellow but thankfully no colour shift at all which I can get used to. TT was way to yellow to use on either phones. I'm in the UK btw. My ipad air 3 display still seems perfectly calibrated compared to all the the iPhones I saw so far.

I picked up an F17 12pro in South Korea. It’s yellow tinted but maybe not as badly as others. It’s definitely warmer than my XS. Anyway, I noticed it doesn’t seem as bright when set to the same brightness level as my XS. Is yours like that too?

My girlfriend and I both have iPhone 12s.

We both have the White 128gig iPhone 12 - she previously had the Green 64 gig one, but exchanged it to a white one due to color preferences.

If we put the iPhones next to each other, it's easily recognizable that the screens have a different tint.

Hers is clearly more yellow than mine, whereas I have - in my opinion - clear whites and colors. Hers appears like she has a "mini night shift" on all the time. I checked, there is no night shift on.

When she exchanged the green to the white version, the screen remained the same. She has a yellow screen, I have a normal clear screen.

It's really weird.

Fortunately, it appears she 'prefers' her screen, as she says it's easier on her eyes. I think the screen is somewhat inferior, but I'm not pushing the issue as she seems to be happy, and as we already exchanged her phone once without difference to the screen I'm not keen to press on.

We visited a couple different apple retailers, and some of their phones on display also had yellow-ish screens.

Could not compare to a previous iphone but compared to my ipad and previous Oneplus 6 its a lot brighter. comparing max vs max brightness

Ughh, do I have a dud? Even with auto-brightness off, my XS appears a little brighter. I can even set the XS a few % lower and it’ll still appear slightly brighter.

I’ll have to compare to a display model in the only official Apple store here and see. I wonder of they’ll let me swap it out if I can prove it’s dimmer.

I also have a F17 iphone 12 Pro that I received on launchday from Applestore online.
My screen is also perfect when truetone is off. But with truetone on it's clearly a yellowish tone on it.
I have therefore turned truetone off for good.
Same here! F17 iPhone 12 Pro.

Same here, but did you compare the max brightness? as long as the 12 is brighter when set to max (auto off!), I wouldn't worry too much. It's possible that the brightness slider is calibrated differently for the 12.

Got a F17 model too, and the screen seems perfect. Turning on True Tone does make it more yellow, but so did it on my iPhone X.
Unfortunately I’ve got a problem with raised black levels.. when watching dark scenes in a dark room blacks aren’t true blacks. Looks more greyish like a LCD screen.

I think this is most likely software related, because mine does this too but at higher brightness its fine. So the display is working correctly the software is just not turning the pixels off at lower brightness

Really wish it was serial number related, that would mean there is hope for a fix. My first F17 was yellow af and the off axis made it more yellow.

The lottery is random, like buying lottery tickets lol

My F17 did this too but the replacement DNP does not

The first three letters of the serial number represent the factory that the phone was made in. So far, everyone who has looked up and commented about their serial numbers have all had phones from the same factory. Usually there are a few different factories in the mix.
Hey everyone. New to the forums. When you all are mentioning serial numbers, are we just talking about the serial number in the about section in settings? Thanks!

Yup. @kre62 You think serial numbers mean anything this time with the screens? I know years past we made threads asking about serial numbers and it was completely random
I think its a combo of factory and week. One factory could churn out 2 weeks of pure screens, and that same factory could get a batch of yellow screens the next week, and churn those out with no qualms or questions asked. Since we cant select factory and week when buying (nor should we have to bear that burden), it ends up being a gamble for us, the end consumer.

But it is promising to see good screens start to return. I think we are 3 weeks out from launch, so looks like we are right on schedule to hit the 6 week mark when good screens become the norm, just like every single year for the past 10 years.

What about for the mini and max? Should I wait until December to purchase a mini? I don't want to deal with a crappy screen and getting it exchanged.

Rumor is those have different suppliers, so may be OK. Difficult to tell until we start seeing the first batches.

Looked at my 12 Pro Max invoice, the serial starts with F2LD. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. I can spot a crappy screen based on boot up with the Apple logo haha, that's how insane this lottery has become over the years.

Same. The second the Apple logo pops up, I already know.

For people holding onto yellow screens, set up an express replacement in about 3 weeks. I usually do this and I get a good white screen each time. I usually set mine up after christmas
