After 4 iMacs I don't know if I'm being paranoid or what.

Thanks!!

You should take photos of your screen with the test images.

Mine looks similar but yeah.. I'm not sure whether I'm being too OCD or not either.

Yellow Tint Fix

Hey everyone ..

Just to check, have you guys gone through the System Preferences/Displays/Color/Calibrate pane to come up with your own personalized calibrated Color profile ??

It's a fairly easy process that takes about 2 minutes, and will enable you to set up whatever you like with regards to color temperature.

As far as the variance from top to bottom, I think it's inherent with the tech of the displays .. i'm currently typing on a 2007/8 MacBook Pro, and do indeed see a difference in brightness from the bottom to the top, but will be receiving my new i7 15" in a day or two, and hope for the best with that one and a good display.

Cheers and hope everyone's troubles get solved !

Congrats on your new MBP! Keep us updated on the display and whether this yellow tint is just 'normal'!

What do you mean with "test images"? One of the photos has the 2 gray bars.

This is my first Mac, I did that, just followed the instructions, is there a way to make the white brighter?

Oops you're right, I missed that.

How does your screen look with this? This was the one I had problems with.

Replacement on it's way.

Didn't think my yellow tinge was too bad, but when I put my friends MBP with the same HR AG lcd next to mine it really sucked. It was YELLOW.

Called Apple Care yesterday and they wasn't surprised. New MBP on it's way and TNT picks up tomorrow. :D

First I thought it was poor viewing angle, but no way. By the way, is battery more important than lcd quality on a pro machine?

Now I will of course get some dead pixels in the middle of the display instead.

Got photos of your current MBP?

I compared mine to a friend's and they're pretty much identical. :S

Using a 15" Glossy High Res and I ran all the tests.

Not seeing anything like the examples they show for yellow screen. I cant discern any difference between the top and bottom bars. And thankfully the stuck pixel test passed multiple run throughs.. not a single pixel out of line.

Seems like I may have gotten a good display compared to the examples they show. :)

sorry

I don't have photos, but my friends screen was really white compared to mine. We used same color profile and full brightness.

If I wasn't into photo or other color sensitive work I actually wouldn't mind. When I calibrated with my Spyder3 it looked better even if it wasn't perfect. The standard color profile sucks.

How do you like your Spyder 3? Have you used other calibration tools?

My 17" MBP i7 should be here early next week. :D Then I will run the tests... Hopefully it will pass ok...

this is weird

Any updates on replacement units?

ok, apple did a fantastic job. I called wednesday and they picked my MBP up on friday afternoon. on saturday the new machine shipped from shanghai and I got it monday afternoon.

so far so good

when I look at the screen it looks bit yellow on the lower half of the screen. However, and this is the strange part, when I took some photos and then used the eye dropper tool in Photoshop I get neutral grey values on the lower half of the screen. The values at the grey bars at the top half of the screen aren't neutral grey. Here I get a higher value on the red compared to blue and green. I sampled from 30 or 50 pixels (don't remember exactly).

One more thing. When I look at the screen from 45 degrees horizontally it has some lighter areas. I don't see it when looking at the screen in normal position. Should it be this way?

Got my replacement today, and going back today.

While my more major issue was that it had marks and scratches on it, it also did have some yellow tint to it. Not as bad as my first unit, but it had some in the bottom right corner (same as the previous unit I sent back). Still enough that I would be annoyed with having a constant "dirty and antique looking" corner.

Part of me is thinking of switching to glossy if this next replacement doesn't work out...it seems they're having less problems regarding this yellow tint issue.

Got compensation from Apple for this return as well...so if you're returning, make sure you get something for your troubles.

sorry to hear that

"troubles" pff.. I went through 6 different macbook pros and still haven't found a good one

I plan on getting something for each and every one I need to return...got free stuff of my choice off the online store the first time, then a direct credit of a sum back to my credit card this time...it's ridiculous that their quality control on a $2000+ machine is not better and we have to pay for it in lost time and aggravation

Given that, customer service has been very helpful up until this point...

I am sending my MBP i5 HR glossy back because of the yellow tint issue.

Has anyone else sent it back and if so what was the result? Was it still tinted?

Is it possible to not have this tinting issue?

I'm going to go to Best Buy to look at the other MBP displays/.
