Just picked up my new i7 15" MBP w/ standard res glossy screen. No yellow tint. No bad pixels either.

OK everyone that thinks they do not have a tint on the lower third of the screen, do this to check:

look at iTunes or open a Finder window in list view covering the whole window. You will see the interleaved horizontal blue stripes (every other file having a slight blue shade in filename) be darker at the top and almost invisible at the bottom. Adjusting angles may make the bottom ones visible but the top ones change with the angle as well. They are still different in hue, when comparing top to bottom. In other words the tint is there no matter the angle. My wife could not see these. However, I can. I called Apple and they are "looking in to it" and may replace my MBP. But I'm starting to wonder whether I should replace it...because maybe ALL displays have this issue. I'm going to BestBuy tonight to check and if the store unites have this I'm not going to replace, I'm going to hold on and wait for updates to fix my other issues.

I looked at my Gateway FHX2300 23" LCD display which is a nice unit and it too has this issue. It's just as if not more noticeable. Bottom third has a yellow tint. And it's not an LED backlit screen either. So I guess it's...natural? I wish my MacBook hadn't died so I could compare it. I will be looking at other Apple laptop screens today/tomorrow and go from there. If it's natural, well, oh well. If it is not natural I'll get a replacement.

Any updates from people?

My 15" HR Anti-Glare (LP154WE3-TLB1) looks to be suffering from the yellow tint, but not sure if this is just an inherent flaw in the MBP. People have been complaining about this issue for the past 3 years.

I also imagine it's a strong possibility that the people who claim to have a "perfect" screen just aren't as anal about it as some of us and/or can't see it even if it might be there.

I completely agree, I think people that have good screens are either incredibly lucky if this is even possible or they simply can not see the tint. Which surprises me since I can see it plain as day but then again I've had several people swear up and down they can't see it right beside me, when I can. Different people, different eye hehe.

Anyhow now I'm leaning on returning it for the hard crashing issues. But I'm going to talk to Apple later today about it. I may wait a week or something since lots of my software will need complex reactivation. So I'm going to ask Apple whether they are planning to address the hard crashing issue with a software or driver update.

they do exist!

I'm waiting for MBP no.3 now. Called Apple this morning and they will send a new. My friend also has the HR AG screen and when putting them next to each other his screen looks perfect. Absolutely no tint.

Hope my 3rd looks like that.

Got Yellow Tinge - Not sure about replace adventure.

I have a brand new macbook pro 15 2.4 glossy with the yellow tinge in the bottom of the screen, even my wife have noticed the problem in a slideshow of black and white photos (the bottom of the images looks a little sepia) As a motion artist and graphic designer color accuracy is important for me.

I think this problem is more common that it seems. I really don't know if i should take the risk of returning it at the apple store, there are people who have received laptops with the same or more degree of yellow tinge after replace.

I have not seen yet pictures of 2010 macbook screen shots of the people who says its all right with their machines.

How many time should we wait for getting the screens right?

Hi, i have a 15" i5 macbook pro gloss and i was fine with it until i saw this post! I do have this same problem but it only became a problem when i was told to look for it (Thanks :-()

The grey line at the bottom was lighter than the one at the top and whites were also a lot duller at the bottom... So as i was within my 14 days i took it back and replaced it at the apple store last night! I'm on my second MBP now and it is exactly the same if not worse, and so was every single 15" i5 MBP on display at the apple store in London! I checked at least four of them!! This is Not yellow tinge it is a screen that is lighter/more washed out at the bottom than the top, i'm not sure why but my thoughts are as follows...

1 - I feel a bit p*s!ed that after spending £1500 i have this kind of defect that is obviously on ALL Macbook pros not just mine (as i found out last night)

2 - I'm sorry that i ever came across this post as before i did i was perfectly happy in my blissful ignorance and didnt notice a thing!

3 - Wasted over two hours of my time last night swapping it out and now have to install all my apps etc all over again!

I Love this laptop but i am considering taking it back for a refund :-(

Heres an image i made up on photoshop... The white boxes are exactly the same! If you dont believe me dl the image and flip it vertically in preview!...

Some pictures taken via my iPhone of the images on the macbook pro screen...

I've also been to my local Apple store (well, reseller) and played around with their assortment of MBPs. No High res screens but the "problem" was apparent on all of them. Assortment of LG-Philips and Samsung panels all displayed the same issue, and there was one 15" in particular which was horrific, much worse than what I'm seeing on my HR AG.

I'm gonna call applecare and get a replacement anyway, but I think we might just have to accept it

BTW its worth having a play around with the calibration under Displays/Color in system Preferences...

I'v now got mine set to be a bit colder in color but it seems to improve the situation at hand by a little! It seems to make edges sharper!!

Let me know how you guys get on with this and also if people can dl that pic i mocked up above fill your screen with it take a picture from a central position and upload it then will can all compare... Think it will be a good thing to do at this point!?

I have a red pixel in the bottom of the screen. Luckily, I have the dock visible so white windows will never be above the pixel, so it is not seen.

I tried a widget that rapidly changed color for an hour but no luck. I see webpages recommending I should take something sharp and apply pressure on the pixel, but Im very afraid of somehow making the matter worse.

Has anyone actually gotten rid of a stuck pixel? What method did you use? I start to believe that its _very_ hard to get rid of one, and that these mythical methods never works

I have a question: when you call AppleCare to signal the yellow tint issue, what do they tell you??? I mean, if almost everyone is having this issue, they must be full of work for the same reason!
Do they accept without any complaint??

PS. Has someone sent an email to Steve to ask about this crap?

no problems to get a new mbp

Waiting for no 3. They just wanted me to check a couple of things to make sure it's not software related. Then they just ask if I want a new one or the money back. I asked if they want a photo, but they don't want any proof.

Anyway, they are fast. I called AppleCare Wednesday 10 days ago. Monday I got no2 directly from Shanghai. Called Thursday regarding yellow tint issue no 2 and mbp no3 should be here on Tuesday.

I think the yellow tinge problem is real and it should not be present in a professional laptop. I have seen a Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro at Future Shop without the yellow tint behind a i5 MBP with the same problem that i have.

For me it's a subtile difference in color but is there, and working in photoshop with black and white images and scrolling over the picture can tell the differences between the screen areas.

Here another image (You can compare the hue values between the top and bottom gray squares)

Really don't like to waste time in replacing, fixing, dating at the apple store.

Yes, full brightness. I don't understand MBPs screen quality control after iMac's recently bad experience.

I tired this test on my 15" i7, my wife's 13" 2009 and a Unibody macbook pro and my 13" unibody macbook. I also tried it on my 27" imac. All would essentially fail this test but my i7 was the hardest to see it on if at all. Well anyways not sure why I'm posting it except to add to the data being collected:)

What screen does your i7 have dude? Samsung, Lg-Phillips? Whats the code ie mine is 9ca3 and it's pretty bad but not the worst...

Gana go back to the apple store on tuesday (my day off) and either get a refund and give up as i'm within 14 days! Or ask specifically for a samsung screen preferably the 9ca4!! As by the looks of it these are the better screens!?

Lol same here, i'v got ocd and being a total perfectionist rolled in to one makes me one fussy pain in the ass :)

Hey can you do me a favour and download that pic i mocked up on ps above, with the white squares top n bottom fill your screen with it and compare it to the pic i took on my iPhone of mine!? Do you see and agree how washed out the bottom one is on mine!?

Going to get an MBP 15" i5 with high res glossy today. Hope I don't have the same problem >.<
