This sort of thing doesn't bother me, but if it bother you, my new iPad has a pretty noticeable yellow tint. I noticed it as soon as I fired up Safari, and when I placed it next to my iPad 2 it became very obvious. But it also made me think the color replication on my iPad 2 might not be so spot on either....

No worries here, I'm happy with it.

Attached is a pic.

That's bad.

Check out this pic of the new ipad from another thread:

It's a white ipad with no yellow tint. You can see that the white in the icons is actually whiter than the white border. Do the white ipads have a different batch of screens?

Looks fine to me.

Has anyone noticed with theirs, when holding it in portrait mode, and slightly tilt the iPad away from you. Mine seems to get really 'warm' and just doesn't have that great field of view. I tried this with the iPad 2, but the field of view seems so much better to me. Not sure if this is a deal breaker yet, but I'm definitely going to the apple store to see some of their display models.

Normally I can live with minor glitches because really, these devices can't be perfect. My iPad, however, is yellow but has a weird reddish ring around the screen. The edges are all different variations of red and yellowish tint. Think I may need to take a drive to the Apple store (which is 1 hr away :().

If this yellow tint can be adjusted via a software color calibration tool, I simply don't understand why Apple would not include this (or allow 3rd party apps to have this). It makes no sense. It would save them tons on money on replacemernts and goodwill toward dissatisfied customers. The yellow tint screen is obviously an issue to many many people, and rightfully so.

I too see this behavior. It seems warmer when in portrait mode with the top slightly tilted away. However, I don't think I will be returning it, owing to the fact that when I tried this with the original iPad I got, the replacements seemed worse than the one I originally had. This minor 'flaw' I can live with.

I was going to return mine too, but sold the iPad 2 I was comparing it with, so just will keep it and be happy.

Okay I started out last night thinking my new iPad had a perfect screen and in comparing it to my wife's iPad 1 I thought hers had a yellow screen that we never noticed before.

This morning, holding the new iPad up to my iPhone 4, with both screens set to full brightness, it looks like the iPhone is brighter, especially the whites. And I've seen this referred to before, but the iPad definitely looks yellower when viewed at an angle versus straight ahead.

Any feedback? When the two iPads are shown together the new one is on the left.

My new white iPad has no yellow tint at all. Compared to my iPad 2, it definitely has a bluish tint to it, though.

Not compared to anything, it looks super-white and bright! Very nice.

The first batch of screens were meant to be from Samsung (cooly calibrated screens) weren't they. Majority of the screen posted thus far are yellow (only seen 1 cool one) and I don't trust those who say theirs is fine because in most cases, its hard to notice unless you directly compare to an iPhone or another iPad.

Does that mean Apple has simply switched to warm calibrations in this revision?

Most Samsung screens I have seen are warmer so this situation is not all that surprising.

If it bothers you return it. If it doesn't bother you, don't click on this thread because there will be many that will post how horrible it is.

What's difficult is only the people with yellow screens or suspected yellow screens are posting. If anyone has a display that they feel is "perfect", could they post a side by side comparison with an iPhone so we can compare and contrast?

I have an iPad 2 and now a new iPad (3).
When I compare the same photo of a person on both, the pic on the iPad2 looks "pink" compared to the more "yellow" of the ipad3. I don't think it's that the new iPad has a "yellow" problem, I think it's that the iPad2 had the wrong color balance. Most people have yellow under tone skin color not red. I think the warmer color balance on the iPad 3 is the correct balance. At least to my eyes it looks better and more natural.

So has anyone noticed if the problem has started to get better? Any thought on if it will

Mine looks better this morning. I did turn off the auto-brightness which made a very noticeable difference.

Still a bit warm for my tastes but tolerable. If it still bugs me in a fortnight I'll bring it to apple for a swap.

I have yellow screen on mine as well and I don't think it is just a warmer temp..... But I have no idea. I do know that's don't like it compared to my iPad 2 however. I will give it a few days and see if it gets better but I doubt that it will. Then back to apple to sort through and hopefully find a imho better screen.

New iPad is on the left and iPad two is on the right.

Opinion

I understand that the retina display is a little warmer then the ipad 2. What does everyone think of this photo? Deciding wether to live with it or exchange. Probably about 25% better in person then photo plus has a powersupport anti glare on it. Any feedback would be great

Its funny man. I know you. I've seen you. Inevery single thread about yellow screens, at every single launch of every single new iDevice. This issue isn't new with Apple. This didnt just start happening. Everytime Apple launches a new product, people complain about yellow screens. And everytime they do, a guy like you tries to claim its intentional.

Its not intentional. The screen should be bluish. It should not be yellow. The end.

Lol you know nothing about color temperatures I guess. Why should it be blueish?

Could I trouble someone with an iPhone 4 or 4s to please turn their brightness on both all the way up and take a head on shot of both. I am trying to figure out if it is normal for the brightness on the iPhone to be better than the iPad in addition to the tint issues.

At least the majority of you have this "yellow tint" uniformly across your screen. Mine appears to only be in certain parts, and while I originally didn't find it to be a problem, it is quite annoying, especially when reading webpages or text on white at night.

I would so much rather have most of the "yellow tinted" iPads being posted in pictures in this thread, which have the tint uniformly, than have mine with the tint in scattered blotches!

I'm going to let it go for about a week, and see if it gets better. But according to my serial number, the iPad was manufactured in mid-February. Maybe, if it is just "adhesive drying," it will dry up from the heat of the screen?

Probly fine. Mine is warmer too.

I noticed the warmer hue almost immediately when I booted it up. I didn't even have to come onto the internet, I just noticed. I personally don't like it and will be exchanging it later, hopefully getting one with a cooler hue.
