This has nothing to do with the hardware. It's all about the color profile. There needs to be a way to adjust it. Blues look purple and yellows look orange.

I bought the iPAD 3 to use as an image portfolio and I feel it is too yellow, warm or whatever.

The white shot on second row is a bit on the warm/yellow side (but so is my calibrated ACD now that I notice it, while my MBP, even if calibrated is more cold/blueish) but the pictures on top look much, much better on the iPad3. Less exaggerated contrast, more dark details, less highlight saturation.

Partial yellow tint

Is there anyone noticing improvement with screens with a partial tint. There's a noticeable yellow tint on the top 30% of my screen. Sceptical it will go away so i'm thinking of returning it.

Is there anyone NOT getting yellow tint?

Mine is almost identical to my dads iPad 2, nothing i can see with the naked eye. It seems everyone is talking about having a yellow tint, or is it because forums are a place where people come to complain?

It may well be too warm, but the iPad 1 you have is too magenta.

Both the 16 g ( black) and 64 g ( white) I have have a yellow tint... I don't like the tint at all, but I don't know if they are going to be able to get me a NON yellow tint I pad. I exchanged the first 16 g and both the first and the current one had it. frustrating for sure.

This is a very strange phenomenon for me. My iPad is very cool. It is cooler than my friends iPad 2 and arguably cooler than my iPhone 4.

I'll take pics when I can, but it is a far cry from the yellow effect that is blowing up this thread.

I can't decide if I like it. Sometimes I'm very pleased with it. Sometimes I wish it were a tad warmer.

The biggest difference in color representation is on the iBook bookshelf. The wood grain is an entirely different color.

If anything, your iPad 1 screen is way off..

Finally got around to taking pics (iPhone 4S). It looks palatable albeit dingy in these pictures but visual comparisons with other iPad 3s yesterday at an Apple Store gave more pronounced results. i.e. store units were more neutral compared to mine.

What do you guys think?

That's not to bad this red hue (pinkish) is driving me crazy sometimes it's here sometimes it's not. Does any body else have redish screen issues

I have the same problem and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. I'll probably return it next week. Hopefully my next one is better.

I returned 2 2010 27 inch iMacs because of yellow along the bottom of the screen. I kept the third one because the whole screen looked the same. Last year I got a 27 inch cinema display and when I put it next to the iMac I realized the whole iMac was pretty yellow compared to the cinema display. I prefer the cooler blue displays for sure but I had no problem using the warmer iMac for a year until I saw it next to a cooler screen. I like the cinema display so much better sitting side by side I'm going to sell the iMac and get a MacBook pro to hook up to the cinema display.

My girlfriends new iPad is kind of yellow all over so now I'll have something to compare mine too when I switch it out. I'll be a little bit disappointed if I don't get one that is cool blue like my iPad 2 and cinema display. I'll probably settle for a Slightly yellow one as long as it is consistent throughout the screen though. 2010 iMac all over again smh.

Your Ipad 3 color looks a lot more accurate than the Ipad 1

I prefer the colours on your iPad 3 to the pinkish overcast that your iPad 1 seems to have.

I am not sure what other people are seeing, but the images from the iPad 1 are clearly 'better'. The iPad 3 shows a blending of the feathers and they are overly bright if not a bit washed. And the eyes are overly yellow. On the iPad 1, you can see the depth, layers and shadowing of the feathers and a more realistic eye color. The iPad 3 shows a consistent tinge across all colors of the image making them less vibrant, the iPad 1 shows each color separately without a noticeable tinge.

Dude the bird's eyes are supposed to be yellow not orange. The feathers on the Ipad 1 look blue/purple not white.

Not on my MPB's display. I see natural white feathers with brown layers and real life shadowing. The photo on the iPad 3 (or I should say, 'that' iPad 3) is clearly lacking depth. But, I guess we all see different things.

I have just joined this site to post my experience so far.

Pre-Ordered four new ipad 3's for myself and family.

2 of them are perfect (very bright white, clean grey toolbars) and 2 of them were yellow tint all over.

I am very fussy and noticed the yellow tint as soon as I opened one without even seeing any comparisons.

I returned a yellow one to an Apple store UK on Saturday where I was given the usual "We will change one but thats all, we cant keep opening boxes"

However the exchange was just as yellow if not worse. After moaning a little another Genius said they would try one more.

Again this was yellow. Not happy I asked to speak to the manager.

He agreed to open two more and thats the lot. Guess what, both yellow.

We actually tried 32Gb Wifi And 64Gb Wifi.

I got a CASH refund.

I cannot accept an iPad that does not look white or even slightly blue to my eyes.

I am the one thats going to be using it so I would like it to look like my other Apple devices, which are white.

The manager said that there are two different screen manufacurers and thats what is probably causing the differences.

I have no real way of knowing if he is telling the truth or just guessing.

He said the glue issue is rubbish and by checking the serial numbers they were made at the beginning of January, so plenty of time for glue to dry! Albeit some people think there is no glue anyway.

He phoned someone at Apple to see if there was a way to identify from the boxex/serials etc if there was a way to determine which batch was yellow/white to try and find one, but apparently there is no way to tell. He said this complaint would be logged at Apple.

To be fair he did more than he probably have should, but he said I was the first one to bring this issue to the shops attention.

Anyway, I bought two more today from a differnet Apple store.

Guess, what - 1 yellow and 1 pink. - Refund for me again.

I am going to try a different Apple store again on Tuesday.

There are what I call perfect ones out there, because I have two of them.

And I will not stop just buying and returning until I get two more.

Incidentaly I dont think its fair comparing ipad 1's and 2's and iphones to the new ipads. They are a different device with a differnt screen so I dont see that as a useful comparrison.

But within the new range of ipad 3's on there own merit I have seen all colours and perfect ones. None of my perfect ones are as bright as my ipad 2. but they are perfect in there own right if you get what I mean.

I'll keep trying and I think you guys should too.

Its easy to say white is white and not yellow, and technically we may be wrong in saying that, but its my eyes thats using it and thats how I like it.

I would urge anyone without a white, if not slightly bluish one to take it back.

I am sure Apple would have never intended them to look any other way than as there display models, which all prove again there are good ones out there.

Cheers Guys.

I also noticed that my iPad 3 is not as bright as my iPad 2 on full brightness. Doesn't the retina display require two LEDs? If so, wouldn't that make it brighter? Or, has Apple capped the brightness to keep battery life close to what the iPad 2 had?

I was at a local Best Buy today and got to see first hand what people are talking about. I started the camera app and selected the back 5mp camera. I placed my hand in front of the camera and saw the image on the screen. I could also see my hand so it was easy to see the major difference in tone.

Being a amateur photographer, I understand how the lack of, or poorly implemented, auto white balance affects the image. Under fluorescent lights, the tone has a green tint. However, the tone of my hand on the screen was yellowish-orange. So something is seriously wrong.

So if you are looking for a quick tint test, try aiming the camera at your hand and compare the screen image to what your hand looks like directly viewing it.

More pics just for comparisons.

Love reading these threads. I think most people are honestly a bit too used to overly cool color temperatures on displays. Perfect example is how warm or movie modes on televisions are usually the most accurately calibrated settings out of the box but people will generally chose the overly bright and blue "vibrant" mode.

I think the same applies here. Some screens in this thread are definitely a bit off but personally I would take a yellow hint over blue or red.

Either way. I am not trying to defend or offend anyone. Here's a couple pics of my screen at 50% brightness. Taking pics of a LCD is probably the worst way to accurately judge anything but oh well. I don't see anything wrong with these pics personally but id be interested in feedback.

It would be a non-issue if iPads came with color profile adjustments, but this out of the box "warm" tone is not acceptable.

Just compare my friends iPad 2 to my iPad 3. It appears that the iPad 2 seems to have a more cooler magenta looking appearance where's my iPad 3 looks to be a little more warm white. As a photographer it looks like my iPad 3 screen is more accurate.

yup they are more blueish white!

how come all the units at the apple store are cooler whites ? I havent seen any yellow tinted one out of 10 I checked...

on the other hand, most of the new ones are coming up yellow tinted?

it looks there is only 1 way for apple to fix it... software update to change the color temp.!
