im so irked by this. got m 6 and final ipad. screen is beautifully white, love it, etc etc. Then i go into imessage, split the keyboard and the left side has a yellow tint to it while the right is perfectly white/gray. like wtf. 6 freaking ipads and there all tinted yellow. the other parts of the screen are SO WHITE, even blueish but then that left side of the keyboard is yellow. gets more noticeable if the brightness is low.

i just dont know wtf to do now. if i should just return and wait a couple weeks till this nonsense sorts itself out.

I agree my ipad is doing the exact same thing... One side is a perfect beautiful white, while the other (the side with the camera) is a slightly duller yellow tinge ... When using the split keyboard it is very noticable and annoying.

I havent returned or exchanged yet, but suspect more will be like this or worse.

Other than that.. I have no blacklight bleeding or any dead pixels.

I just wish this screen had a uniform white warmth.

This issue reminds me of the Samsung Galaxy S2 where the left side is yellow, I wonder whats causing this issue.. I dont think its glue.

Blue Pink Yellow

So we have iPads with blue, pink, and yellow screens. After reading this entire thread it seems like the majority of people have either a yellow or blueish screen.

My iPad seems to be one of the few that is slightly pink but much brighter screen. My wife's iPad is perfect but a duller and darker at the same brightness settings. But at full brightness her whites look white. My iPad is more vivid\brighter but has a slightly noticeable pinkish tint.

Those of you who have the reddish tint, are you replacing? I am visiting parents today near an apple store and am not sure if I should replace. And I think I can live with this and not worry about it as admittedly the difference is extremely minor. Makes me smile to think I'm one of the few with a slightly reddish\pinkish screen that's brighter. :)

Here's a picture of my iPad which it sounds is suffering from the exact same issue. I've been keeping an eye on the forum and I can't really tell whether this problem is going to resolve itself over a few weeks or if the iPad should be swapped out...

Exact same thing here. Left side is more yellowish but the rest is nice white/bluish that I like. The yellow is faint but it's there. I hope it's just glue and will fade in a week or so.

Absolutely howling with laughter at the people trying to not only argue that the yellow screen is ok, now trying to say its SUPERIOR to a neutral display. This is too much. Ha ha ha.

Listen ill say it one more time. This has happened with every launch. Its not intentional its a defect. Theres ipad screens right now all over with neutral tint. Or even bluish. Both are preferable because white displays as white, not egg white or off white, white.

But listen if you want to try to convince yourself that yellow is white and is somehow preferable then no one is stopping you from enyoying your yellow display. Just dont try to convince everyone else, cause any normal person when shown the two side by side will pick the one with the truer white.

Wow ok not sure if the pic makes things worse but that's a valid concern it is not just warm like mine is and many others does seem yellow tinted pretty bad

I registered to say this.

I set up a genius bar appointment yesterday to discuss my yellow screen on my brand new pre-ordered iPad.

The individual who helped me said.
"I'll exchange it this once, but don't expect me to keep opening boxes. The color temperature is different but its within what our manufacturers consider factory specs."

At this point I replied (when referencing a display model)
"do you agree that this floor model's screen and color temperature is much more appealing? Does this yellow tint not do an injustice to the retina display? How is this acceptable?"

He said once again that it is within factory specifications.

I now have another brand new Ipad, in box which I am terrified to open for fear that it too will be plagued by the yellow screen. And that this time Apple won't replace it.

Any recommendations?

i would say open it, and if it's not to your liking, either take it to another apple store OR simply return it, and wait until these issues are worked out in the supply chain.

If it is with in factory specifications then the variance between screens is just to big, open your new Ipad and see if the problem still persist get your money back and probably repurchase at a later date.. maybe 2-3 months from now?

Well, went to the apple store to compare..and the demo unit showed a blue tint compared to mine. I then asked for a replacement and they were very accommodating.

Opened first box....more yellow then mine.
Opened second box.....again more yellow then mine.

They wouldn't allow another one....and I completely understand....I was surprised and humbled they even allowed me to try. They could have said no. So I left with mine that I receive yesterday.

So that got me thinking that maybe some are right, and you have to wait a and see if the color changes on its own....since the demo units were most all blue, and maybe over the few days they changed, unlike the two box ones were yellow worse then mine and never got a chance yet.

FYI Mine was purchased online so the myth you can't replace it at the apple store...is just that...a myth.

Here is a pic I took today since mine was delivered yesterday. In a few days will take another pic....and so on....just to see if there is any change.

Ipad 1st gen on the right.
Ipad 3rd gen on the left.

Brightness set all the way up on both. Disregard the different color google readers. That how they were when I took the pic.

Now I don't know if its placebo effect...but yesterday when I got it, it looked
much more yellow then it does today. It a seems its starting to look more white to me...and my ipad 1 is starting to look as the blue gives it a more washout look, but again could be a placebo effect.

But I will keep taking pics to make sure.

Update: 3-18-2012 Been leaving brightness all the way up with no turn off for the last maybe 38 hours.

Ipad 1st gen on the right.
Ipad 3rd gen on the left.

Brightness set all the way up on both. You tell it has changed from the one above.

On this pic, ipad 1st gen is on the left. 3rd gen on the right.

When I first got it, it was looking like Bergerfan's here.

Now some have argued it will change and others argued it won't. I am only interested in results and I try all pssibilties just to see for myself if they will work or not.

So far my results have worked for me, you're results may very. Best of luck.

i think the glass in the ipad has a lot to do with all this. if i look at certain angles, it looks as if the lower half has a yellow tint. but if you center that section and look at it head on, it clears up a lot of the yellow.

Hey mate, I had the same problem. The top half was a dingy yellow and the bottom was a cooler blue. Did my head in, drove me up the wall, couldn't accept it, so I took it back today.
They swapped it straight out even though it was not that noticeable. Great service. They took it out of a sealed brown box and promised me over and over that it was a brand new unit, because no refurb models were in circulation yet.
I am a happy camper. Just need to check this one is ok. My advice, take it in dude. If you aint happy it won't just disappear. Good luck

My new iPad display has vibrant colors and is a normal natural temperature (not yellow which is a real problem as proven by others with their pics in this thread). Normal warm screens won't look yellow while standing alone.

Unfortunately, my new iPad does suffer from the uneven brightness/hue towards the top by the camera as shown by and reported by many people in this thread. What's interesting is, when I have an all black image shown, you see very faint blotchy light leak in that same exact area.

So, when the screen is all white (email, web, iBooks), it comes off as dingy and a bit dimmer in that area. So it looks like these uneven displays might be due to screen bleed that isn't as obvious as it was in the iPad 2, but it's creating issues while the display is showing whites. At least, this is what I am surmising.

I am going to ask Apple to cross-ship me a new iPad replacement so that I can compare the two next to each other (giving my credit card as collateral). If the new one has this same uneven tone/hue but isn't as vibrant as the original, I'll keep the better one and keep asking for replacements.

I too have the yellow tint extending from the camera side of my device.
I noticed it immediately when I turned it on. I'm not positive, but I believe it's been diminishing over the last few days. I plan on giving it a week and then exchanging it for a new one if it's not improved.

These things dont disappear. If your screen has yellowing to it, it will never go away.

You have to swap them out constantly to get one that looks right. Apple's quality control is notoriously poor, and has been for years now. They produce things so fast, and in such quantity, in favour of getting as many sales as possible for the sake of their stock prices.

The annoying thing is, once you've had your 2nd replacement, you pretty much have to get a refund and then rebuy another, as the return period will almost be up.

So could you explain how mine went away? Well at least most of it as of now?

So could you explain how mine went away?

It didnt. Its placebo. your screen is still yellow, and always will be. This I promise you.

And even if it did go away why should you put up with it? When others are getting pure clear sceens out of the box?

Listen if this affected all pads then maybe the wait and see would fly, but many people arent even having to deal with this issue so why should you?

Start demanding more from the worlds most valuable company. They have like 40% profit margins on these things. Why should you suffer?

Ok This screen thing is weird . Mine will be pinkish for a little while then it will be less pinkish there is something causing the screens to shift color temps slightly on my iPad . My roommate noticed it to saying wow that has a pretty destintive pink (redish) hue then I will show him when it changes he says yes its less now . So its just not me. Maybe the glass on top as it is polarized and depending on natural light or led lighting etc it will look slightly different. As I notice the pink hue more during natural lighting then at night with regular lighting.

I will wait and see if it corrects it's self in a week if not I will return and wait as much as I love the new retina screen the hue issues are starting to really make it less enjoyable my ad 2 color temp was perfect . Not to much yellow, red or blue hues perfect color temp.

Your OCD was treated appropriately at a nearby clinic.

LOL....wow! An internet warrior....please insult the ones trying to help some more...we can take it.

I posted pics...it wasn't placebo, which I described in my last post.

Why are you trying to force you will on to others? What's wrong with giving one options to try if they so choose?
