I wonder if they would take it back. You start reading a (white) page in redish hue and finish in green. Lol
This is a huge exaggeration. Like I prefaced the list of pictures: they don't do the display justice.

That said, after several days, I realized:
  • A white page appears white uniformly to my eyes when looked at straight. But:
  • A few degrees tilt upward makes the bottom look red-tinted, while the top is dimmer.
  • Tilting downward makes the top look green-tinted, while the bottom is dimmer.
  • The iPhone's camera makes the display exhibit both symtoms, likely because of the light being captured from wider angles than human eyes.
So I returned it at a retail store for a refund and bought another one. Checked the display at the store: bingo. Almost perfect, the best I've seen so far (IRL):

No red-green tint. Much better viewing angles with no color distortion, this time. Negligible yellow tint toward the top. May or may not fade out with time. Regardless, holding on to this one, tight! :)

The red-green one was a week 7. The new one I'm keeping is a fresh week 12 (last week). I think they're gradually improving with each new production batch.

Looks yellow to me.

Looks yellow to me.

In the pictures only, trust me ;).

More and more, I'm thinking those pictures people post (mine included) don't convey an accurate representation of what human eyes actually see in real life, but rather what the camera lens captures, which at this level of details, is pretty different (like accented yellow tints, red + green tints at the same time. They're more misleading than useful.

So I sent my new ipad because of yellow tint, and they sent me a new one.

Since I sold the ipad2, I cannot directly compare, so I compared with my iphone 4

it still look yellow, but not as much as before.

I might go change it at apple store.

So if I bought it online at apple.com, I can go to apple store and change it, right?

Can I open it at the store and see if the screen is ok?

The photo I posted is blue white, it's correct.

heres something to add to the ocd people's worries.

not only do you have to worry about tint. you also have to worry about brightness, and how 'white' the whites look.

sometimes i've gotten an ipad, no tint, uniform color... but if i load up apple.com the whites are different.

two indicator i look for, on the home page, the difference between the whitest part in the IMESSAGE icon. Also, compare the icons of the CAMERA, and see which one has a brighter gradient.

One thing to note also, alot of people who say they have 'perfect' ipads, might not be comparing two directly side by side, or might not have a 'good' one to compare it to, or think they may have a good one to compare to.

many of the rejects i've returned would've fared really well to my eyes had i not had a 'perfect' 32 gb to compare it to.

you think you have a perfect ipad? load up a gradient scale on google, and do the same for a few in the apple store and compare. i guarantee you, one of those screens will beat your screen in some way or another, weather it be brightness, better gradient or whatever.

One of my previous ipads had some kind of a tint to it, which made RED, YELLOWS, SKIN COLORS and other warm color look BRILLIANT, vs my buddy's 'perfect' ipad. however, when loading up apple.com, blue's, skies, and forums, his blows mine out of the water.

the 'perfect' 32 gb in my possession, has my ideal ipad screen, so i've been comparing it with every 64 LTE version i get, so far none have come to surpass it.

the 'perfect' 32 gb i have, isn't as bright as my buddy's ipad 2 tho,

so in the end man, you have to factor in brightness, saturations of whites, tints, uniform screens, blah blah blah.

heres what though, pick a screen your happy with, and would be able to live with. I'm all for returning ugly old looking screen with major yellow tints, pink green hues, etc etc, but if you think you're gonna get an ipad with perfect whites, optimum bright levels, full colors, no tints and uniform all around... you're gonna be wasting alot of time, gas, and causing alot of stress for the body.

Is the yellow tint a screen issue or software?

So I took my new iPad to my parents today.....my Mom has an iPad 1.

Personally.....I don't think mine is "yellow", I just think the screen is warmer. My old iPad 2 as well as my Mom's iPad 1 are both blue/white....very cool.

Even my Mom could see that the new iPad was warmer yellow.

Is this an issue with the screen? Or is this how Apple is setting the color settings for the new iPads.

I realize some people have an EXTREME yellowing....I don't think I do.

But hell, I can make my Apple Cinema Display be yellow....or blue....or pink by adjusting the color settings.

Is this something where Apple is making the new iPads have a warmer tint and higher saturation?

I dont think so, I think it's a defect with the screens. Apple would want it to look like the ipad2. If they had wanted to change the colour to yellow they would have addressed it in the keynote saying "piss yellow is the new white";) Your always gonna get people that say you should just be happy with it, don't listen to them. You are the master of your own purchase, and if you have arrived at this forum then in my experience it means your not happy.

They obviously do, when we're dealing with such minor color differences. My case is a prime example.

I agree with you Roman, 110%

There is no perfect iPad out there, get what you can live with and be happy;) This has left a sour taste in a lot of people's mouths, might look at a Samsung tab next upgrade..

Many are perfect, you just have to keep at it until you find one.

I'm not going to return my current iPad. Perfectly happy with it ;).

You keep bragging about yours and how your picture is accurate but if it is, then the right side of your display is dimmer. I would take any kind of tint (possibly temporary) over a partially dim display (permanent) any day.

Oh I could post a better shot but have no piss on my pad:)

No one is bragging, it seems like you are not happy with yours and you keep hating that mine is perfect, I have no light problems or yellow as for the yellowing being temporary yeah... Keep telling yourself that.

I agree with Roman, your left side is decidedly yellow. But I will say this, a yellower side has more chance of being glue and cured than a tint. Tints are actually defects in the glass and is permanent sadly. I have an ever do slight yellowing on the left and I'm totally sure after a hour of sky gamblers it was 50 percent weaker.

Anyway good luck to you guys in your ongoing quest, time to actually start enjoying this beast now;)

Here are my shots....any thoughts?

Overall....I do feel the new iPad is warmer....I don't see a major yellow issue with it. Compared to the original iPhone 4....both iPads are much warmer. I don't see any real bad yellowing....or any big spots or unevenness.

My biggest complaint about the new iPad compared to the iPad 2 is the viewing angle. I tend to feel the new iPad as you tilt it away from you, it gets darker quicker....resulting in what my eyes perceive as a slight color shift.

In all photos it's: new iPad (left) - iPhone 4 (center) - iPad 2 (right)

No need to be pathetic and immature, we need to be constructive here or just go away! It really is childish...

For me the new iPad has the best white out of the three in your pictures...With th iPhone having the worse....

Thanks for the feedback. Personally....I like a slightly warmer tint than the coldass blue you see in the iPhone pics.

I can see where some people on here have a definite yellow problem....I hope Apple is listening and fixing the issue.

The first place I really noticed anything was in the keyboard. If you look at this picture, you can see where the new iPad's keyboard (left) has a slightly yellowish/greenish tint to the grey buttons.

And I think the women's hand in the second picture looks best on the new iPad (left) as well.
