Yoobao leather iPad case (OP updated with all revisions)

Got my case in today and left you positive feedback. The smell on the case is a little strong but I'm assuming it will eventually go away like what happens with most other leather products. Even with the smell the case is definitely worth the $40 I paid for it.

sorry about the smell
i really wish there is something i can do -_-

Glad I am not the only one that got a new case with a smell. After airing it out, putting it in a plastic bag with baking soda, and then using leather conditioner, it smells a little less. I hope it will subside over time.

In my version of the V2 case, you cannot even tell the magnets are there. I doubt they would interfere with any of the iPad's functions.

+1......

The magnets that are used in the flap version are perfect ! They are just strong enough to close the lid but not do damage in any way.

I for one HATE flaps for closure , I have a Griffin Elan and hate that dam flap. Love my Yoobao !

That would be great. If you have not done so already, would you mind testing the compass function in google maps while the iPad is in the case to see if the case interferes with it? Thanks!

Mine was really stinky when I got it, but after about a week or so, the smell is minimal. It smells if you put it near your face (which I only did to check the post for this thread - I don't make a habit of it) but otherwise it's not noticible.

dplxy:

I went on ebay to buy the case from you and it said your listing expired on June 5. How can I purchase from you at this point

Ways to keep iPad secure in a case... without elastic bands or magnets

An OK idea, I think -- although I have not been considering the V2 case , so have less opinions about it (I prefer the unreleased V3 design, since it leaves the entire face of the iPad exposed, instead of covering it with leather).

I'll write some more tomorrow about securing the iPad in the case, without straps....

Thanks again -

In the Macrumors discussion forum rearding the Noreve iPad case, I read a comment by a person who has used Noreve cases for the last 5 years or so -- he says that the clips (or "rails") that hold the iPad inside the Noreve case are made from very thin curved steel or aluminum, covered w/leather (so as not to scratch the surface of the Pad), and then shaped -- to grip precisely, just over the edge of the iPad.

I am just assuming that Yoobao has manufactuing facility that would be capable of creating & installing longer metal clips than just the small 4 corners that we see in the photos....
Could you send these notes also to Yoobao?
Thanks again, dplxy! :)

done :D

Please keep us updated, i am interested once all the little kinks has been smoothed over. This sound like an awesome case!

Got my case yesterday from dplxy and gotta say I'm loving it. It did have a slight smell to it but leaving it out overnight seemed to dissipate most of it, you can really only tell if you hold it right to your nose. So I am assuming that it should go away completely in a decent amount of time.

Got my case in yesterday from dpxly. Shipping time was outstanding, only took 3 days. There is a slight smell to it but it not horrible. The only issue I have is that unlike my other first gen Yoobao, this one does not have magnets. I somewhat enjoyed the magnets on the original case but oh well.

I'm guessing it's like mine. The magnets are there, you can't see them or feel them. Try hovering the case flap over the edge and youll notice a faint pull. It's not much, but it does seem to help it from falling back while carrying it.

The smell of mine is slowly going away. I am not upset and dpxly did offer to make it right but I decided I wanted to keep it. Great seller with superfast shipping and great customer service. I am loving the case, wonderful feel, and there are magnets, but they are pretty weak. But it holds it shut, kinda.

Did they use real leather or PU leather? (and yes i do chuckle when I see the term PU leather).

hey dplxy, when you get your next shipment can you also let us know if there happen to be any changes made in production with them? i now know i need to order one of these next time you get them in. especially knowing how amazing your service is :)

Nontheless I like the magnets in the original better. But the flap definitely outweighs the magnets.

back flap

Just an FYI to those who have not ordered, but are thinking about it, the back tab that the front cover tucks into to make it a typing stand will stay stuck out a bit after a couple days use. It does not bother me too much, but I think some people had this reservation with the Apple case. I have found that it does not really go back to being flush. I'd say I only use it in the typing stand position a couple hours a day, if that. Just a heads up.

Anyone else with the case experiencing this? I expected it really, so it wasn't a big deal for me.

Nice pic, dplxy! You're very good with the camera angles! (<-- said by an experienced photographer :D )

Do you have any feel for how long it might take for Yoobao to modify the V3 ("Executive") iPad case? I am quite pleased with their being so open to customer feedback & requests -- seems to me that I read earlier in this thread that they were amazingly quick to modify the V1 case. I'm curious to know if the suggestions that you sent to them on my behalf may take a few weeks to implement, or if there is (at least) any way for us to know if they really are going to re-design & release the V3 case -- or not.
Thanks *very* much again, on behalf of many others here as well as myself, I am sure!
