yoobao slim or yoobao magic? does the slim have a smell, like the magic?

It seems only some batches of the Magic come with the "bonus" scent. Many have reported no smells. Mine, which I bought when they first were released - from a vendor who unfortunately is no longer selling - had no smell whatsoever.

Neither did/does mine.

Mine actually has a subtle leather smell. Two minor gripes since I've had it for a few days now, the inside felt sheds onto the screen but is easily wiped off. Also, took a flight with it and the front cover bubbled up a bit due to the pressure but once on the ground the bubble receded. Have another flight coming up and will see what happens.

Just got my new brown slim/magic case today. I really like this case. The iPad fits perfectly, and is easier to put in/take out than the v.1 magic case. The leather is nice, and there is leather/suede on the inside. The cover also folds flatter underneath than the old magic or the slim case. My only minor complaint would be the latch/clasp, which has been redesigned and is covered with leather on both sides, to eliminate the peeling liner problem. The new clasp won't have that problem, but it doesn't latch as securely as the old one. It needs to be a little longer to better hold the iPad side, but that's a minor thing. Overall, it's a really nice case.

I've had the new "Magic Slim" case for a week now and it is most definitely a keeper! I had the Targus Truss and it was MUCH heavier and anything but slim.. The leather on the Magic Slim is very nice (no smell to speak of lol). The design is exactly what I was hoping for; protection without bulk, full screen access, multiple horizontal viewing options and quality build.. The more I use it the more I like it!! I saw wilwire's review on youtube and saw he had a little trouble releasing the bottom clips for horizontal use too but happy to say they are MUCH easier after a week of use..
Purchased mine from kevikev on ebay and have to say the buying experience was one of the best I ever had there, great communication before and after the purchase and shipping was surprising fast for California to PA.

Pinger- Does your clasp hold securely, or is it pretty easy to come loose from the iPad? Just wondered if it was just mine or if they are all that way.

Holds it pretty well, never had it open unexpectedly... Like it much better the truss's elastic strap and the slim's leather tAb design..

First few Minutes Impressions

I finally got my new generation Yoobao Slim Magic Case, a few minutes ago... and here are my first impressions:

- The case quality is really nice. Stiches, material, everything is top notch!
- The new version is genuine leather, the nice smell is a proof of that!
- The hinges that holds iPad in place are no longer covered with leather, they are mat plastic, in my opinions looks way better, and feels way more secure!
- The clasp is covered by leather, yes it looks like it's not closing properly but it's mainly because of the padding in the front cover, but there is no possibility for the claps to open by itself, it's damn tight...
- The padding on the front cover is UN-BE-LE-IV-AB-LE!!! It can protect the iPad screen possibly against everything.
- The Portrait Position holding, the front cover is not (again) folding %100. But have to say, it's almost there, maybe after a few weeks of break-in, it will be there... I can't compare it to the first one, because I don't have it.
- All the angles are working flawlessly, and the iPad is amazingly solid in each position.

So overall that's an amazing product... There is just one negative comment that I can say. But sadly that's an important one...

 IT'S HEAVY!!!

It's so heavy that it might double the weight of iPad, or maybe even more! I wish I had a weight scale so that I could say it to you by numbers but I don't have one...

This is my first Folio type case, I don't know the average weight of those things, so if that's normal please correct me, because other than that it's one hell of a case!

PS: I didn't put any pictures since it's widely available on the internet, but let me know if you need any specific angle or close up photos... I can provide them...

That doesn't sound like an improvement. Since the two clips closest to the spine are designed to slip off the iPad when you put the case into a standing position and then slip back on when you close it, I'd much rather have the softer "leather" of the original Magic contacting the side of the iPad. Less likely to scratch...

Trust me... I don't see any possibility for them to scratch ipad... ;)

In my opinion, that's a positive thing, because with the old version, I always saw in the reviews that when you're folding the front cover for portrait use, those two clips were always loosing grip and almost the whole case goes off, giving you hard time folding the front cover... But know they're there, holding the ipad tight enough that there will be no unwanted opening of the back cover... but loose enough that will let go with just a tiny little force.

and for the weight, are there someone who has both the new magic and new slim? so that he/she can give their exact weights to us? I seriously want to know if this weight falls within the average or not, because it felt a little much to me...

The clasp on mine is loose enough that it flops open when I hold it past vertical, which is annoying. It just barely grips the iPad edge. I must have a smaller-than-normal iPad. :(

arghhhhhhhh i'm so torn between the new magic slim / a portenzo / and the yoobao magic (with the flap) and can not seem to make up my mind

i'm initially drawn to the magic slim but if the clasp that holds it closed keeps popping off I don't like that, only downside of the portenzo i see is that theres no typing angle.....hmmm decisions decisions

Update: Almost 2/3 of the entire back "grain" of my Yoobao case has now worn/flaked away, leaving just a gray material of some sort. Looks crappy as all get out now. As I've posted before, I'm not overly harsh on my cases, but they do get exposed to normal construction-site dirt and grime, sawdust, a little dampness here and there, etc.

I need to buy a new case but am not sure if I want to go with another "disposable" Yoobao or buy something more durable this time around. Decisions, decisions....

For the record, however....I do think i got my money's worth. Just would have preferred that it lasted a little longer.

Which Yoobao case do you have and for how long? I have both the black and brown slim cases and absolutely love them. I don't use my iPad in harsh conditions but do transport it all around and don't use any special care when putting it in and out of my bag or when my 2 year old granddaughter is using it all over the place. I haven't seen any concerning wear but I've only had the cases for around 2 months.

I got my Yoobao magic slim after reading the impression of it here on the forums. I've been using it for a week now and I really love it. It's an excellent case. I used the Macally Bookstand since launch and I definately love the switch to the Yoobao.

I took a few pics of it in case people wanted to see more shots of it.

can u fold back the yoobao magic cover like an ebook reader? cos for cases with similar designs, i noticed that if u fold the cover to the back and hold it with one hand, the ipad will pop out from the case.

@mandiller
Thx for the pics! Is your ipad new or did u just clean it before taking the pics? Looks very nice!

don't you clean your ipad everyday? I do, often many times in a day. My iphone too. But I hate fingerprints....

I have the first model with the leather wrap-under flap that holds the iPad in place. I got it in early June of this past summer. So I got, give or take, five months out of it before the back finish started flaking away. And once it started, it really took off.

I may buy the "magic" one I see listed around here as my next one. Its not a bad case even if it didn't hold up that well. I work every day on industrial sites. But I'd like a case that can survive these and still look nice when I hand the iPad to my clients to use as a secondary monitor for presentations.
