Does this mean that the date when iOS 4.2 is officially released will also be the date at which Apple will need to have taken iTunes 10.1 out of beta and made that into an official public release as well?

- Julian
That would be the assumption. Apple has done this in the past several times.

I don't think you can turn on AirPrint until 10.6.5 I have iTunes 10.1 beta and I don't see anything under preferences to turn it on...

Ahh.. Now this would explain things. I have no option for AirPrint as well. Been tearing my hair out trying to figure out if I'm blind or that the option just isn't there.

The poster above is probably running 10.6.5 beta which would give him the option to turn on AirPrint.. I'm not in that much desperation to go installing a beta OS so I'll just wait until 10.6.5 officially drops..

I can't see this rolling out by the weekend...

They need to push:
* A new Mac OSX version
* A new iTunes version
* New versions for each of the supported devices (like 5 different iOS 4.2s)

Plus, developers have only had a day to start testing their Apps. They need to test, possibly correct nontrivial issues, and submit to Apple. Apple takes at least a week to clear App updates.

This can't all happen by Sunday.

The AirPrint option is only available on the windows iTunes beta. I assume Apple have done it that way because it's easier than hooking it into the OS on Windows. On OS X it will be integrated into the OS with 10.6.5, so there is no need for an option within iTunes

I am running 10.6.5 beta :(
I've not put 10.6.5 beta on my mac so am only guessing, but have you looked under sharing on system preferences?

All I can say, is I wish I had this date during the summer, when my MacBook was broken :p the system feels rock solid, maybe this is what the iPad was meant to be from the beginning. Another thing I've noticed, or maybe its just me, but the safari feels snappier than before. I'm still playing with the new os, and I'm in love with it :D

ah okay, yea sharing was enabled and it finds the printer but just sits at "contacting printer" its a xerox printer that is setup through ipp.

I agree it is pretty crappy to not update knowig for sure that there is an issue coming. (not sure about NZ, but for sure they knew about Europe) The main difference is that the US general press is happy to ignore stuff like this until it hits the US and the suddenly it will be front page news like they just discovered this and it is the end of the world. Then they will realize that the tech press already has been talking about that, which will lead to a whole new days news explaining that Apple should have known it was coming.

I think it's not a US vs. Europe thing, but more that some people in the US still don't understand DST. I know that certain areas that are new to it (most of Indiana, who did not switch until a few years ago) still are confused by it. </jadedamerican>

Jokes aside, it's rather unacceptable that Apple has waited so long (even if a few weeks) to fix this and the lock bug. Hopefully 4.2 will get out soon...

I installed the GM earlier today, and so far my experience has been very good. Netflix is working again, and that was the only thing that I noticed that was wrong in the last beta.

I have never had problems with WiFi, but now, with the GM 4.2, I get the signal, but Internet works once and doesn't work twice!

I tried to reboot, restore the network settings, change the assigned IP, but it doesn't work.

And another weird thing? Even connected with 3G the iPad doesn't always work. It really seems there is a network general issue.

Anyone else?

I am using the GM version since today morning (Central European time), and i am happy to say that this is a big improvement from beta3. Compared to 3.2.2 the iPad is as fast as before but now has the benefits of multitasking and folders. Everything works great and there are no slowdowns or crashes. Battery life is also great. I have been using my iPad for more than 7 hours, surfing the Internet, running various apps and watching YouTube videos, and I still have 32% battery left. I am extremely happy! Now all I want is iTunes 10.1 final and Mac OS X 10.6.5. Of course some app updates would also be great :)

So is Game Center in 4.2GM? I haven't seen anyone mention it? Does it bring your achievements over from iPhone games?

Yes, it is there and works exactly the same as on the iPhone. Of course the achievements and all infos are retained. You are connecting with the same account.

Overall I like it, the printing is nice but only supported by the internal iPad apps (notes, email and photos) i sent a pages document via email and was able to print the attachment via quick look, which is fine till it's incorporated into iworks.

Game center is cool, but not I only have doodle jump, that has support for it. None of my iPad games use it.

I will still be jailbreaking when it's avaialable because I like iFile and the ability to change the default browser a lot, but i think I can skip backgrounder and some of the other things i used.

Nice update Apple.

The OS feels snappier and I am really liking app switching and the dedicated mute button. Being able to play Pandora in the background really rocks (pun intended...). ;)

Unified inbox is also a welcome addition. Can't tell about battery life yet, as I've never been able to fully drain it anyway. Ive been on it non-stop all day today (working) and I'm at 50% so far,so life is good.

Overall, I am extremely happy with it.

Quick question:

Are you guys running iOS 4.2 GM on top of iTunes 10.1 beta 2 or 1? Some folks on the web have reported 4.2 GM does NOT run well--or cannot install--on iTunes 10.1 beta 2. That's why I am asking. Thanks!

I know this isn't officially release but does anyone know how you will be able to show photos through Airplay? I see the icon for Airplay on most of my video/audio apps but nothing for photos.

I'm using 10.1b2 & it's running perfectly. My only issue is making up mind in which app goes into what folder & how to name them. I finally don't have to scroll through screens after screens due to having so many apps & thank you for allowing us to have more than 12 apps in a folder.

GM version with iTunes 10.1 64-bit for Windows 7. If your running windows I can upload the iTunes to dropbox.

I hate the way they work out signal in iOS 4, it's rubbish, I always had 5bars wen I was at home with speeds of 2-3mb, now I have 1 bar with speeds of 1mb, and I was standing in the same place.

Lol!!! You dont actually think that they way that apple changed how the bars are displayed, actually affects signal quality/data throughput? You have to be kidding me!!!
