ios 4.2 GM wifi issues

Anyone else having wifi issues with 4.2 gm? everything is working perfect, folders, multitasking, even airprint, however when using anything that involves connecting via wifi I'm able to use it for a short time (usually 3-5 minutes) and then it just stops working and I'll have to reset my iPad, switch wifi on and off or even re input my network settings, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't and even then I'll only get a couple more minutes out of wifi. Really not fun.

I love it, the whole shark feels a lot snappier, more safari pages remain caches for me, multitasking is a pleasure, and folders makes my once 5 page desktop now half a page. I love AirPlay, I've wanted for so long now to be able to stream my music to my airport express and now i can do it with every source of audio which is soooo cool. Dunno bout AirPrint, my printer is broken but I figure if it works as easily as airplay, then it sill kick ass.

No wifi issues here, I did notice though that the auto join feature is off by default and has to be activated manually for your individual networks, im pretty sure this is new to 4.2, but i maybe wrong so please correct me if i am, lol.

I'm using iTunes 10.1 Beta 2 and i had absolutely no problems what so ever installing and using either.

Overall, this is what the iPad should have shipped with, it makes it feel like a real computer rather than a giant iPod. Good release apple, can't wait to see what's next!

Since yesterday I used my iPad for more than 15 hours and I am extremely happy. The OS is fast, stable and I have Zero issues.

No crashes or wifi/3G connectivity issues. The only thing that seems off to me is the battery life seems lower than any of the other three betas I've tested. Not by an extreme amount, but noticeably less than before for me. It could just be subjective though, and I'll try doing a little more testing the next few days.

Except for battery life, it all works quite nicely on my 3G unit.

Battery life has been great so far on my Wifi device. Definitely on par with 3.2.2 or even better.

Digging it here. The number one greatest feature is folders. My iPad feels so much cleaner.

Disappointed with printing. I hope they add support for more wifi printers soon. A bunch of other apps can - why can't Apple's official app do it?

No problems at all with wifi after a couple of hours' play. *touches wood*

Do you have OS X 10.6.5 Beta? That's required for AirPrint to work.

No, and I'm aware of that requirement. I expected AirPrint to be able to handle bonjour wifi printers on the same network - like other apps can. :/

Assuming 10.6.5 beta allows printing when my Mac is on, that'll be a reasonable stopgap; but really it should Just Work.

I got my dear old mother into using an iPad - which she has taken to like a fish to water; but printing is annoying. We got a wifi printer too, in the expectation that a future iOS update would simplify printing. She's not going to understand why it still doesn't work as expected...

Mute button

So maybe I don't understand the need for the mute button now. It definitely doesn't mute an app, only things like keyboard, lock, etc. I guess this is the way apple wants it but I was hoping to mute all sounds somewhat like the mute function on a laptop. Oh well...

I agree it definitely should just work. But I guess it's just something we will have to deal with.

Pretty bad wifi issues with my iPad since I have upgraded from beta 3. I never had these kind of problems before, but now it just doesn't seem to connect to the web (times out etc), regardless of the location. Fine with the iPhone4 but useless with the ipad..

I upgraded from 3.2.2 to 4.2 GM and I have not experienced any problems with WiFi. In fact, it's been working great. Maybe it's because you guys upgraded from Beta to GM?

Sincerely,
Mel

No wifi issues. I think my RDP program is buggy with 4.2 - I have had no problems with the web, but some longer initial connection times with GoodReader and iTap RDP.

Battey life feels noticeably shorter, but I haven't fully disharged and recharged yet so maybe the OS is calibrating.

Still, I think I like it so far, and I don't even mind the orientation/mute deal (I thought I would hate it).

I know this isn't officially release but does anyone know how you will be able to show photos through Airplay? I see the icon for Airplay on most of my video/audio apps but nothing for photos.

Is it under the "Sharing" icon? It's the box with the arrow pointing out of it. That would seem like a sensible place to put it.

Presumably you also need a new AppleTV, and you may need an update for it as a number of people have said that Video AirPlay isn't working yet.

Granted I've only been running 4.2GM for around 6 hours(non-stop lol) but I have had absolutely no errors or issues.. Not sure if it was by coincidence that after running it for a couple hours 3 updates for apps appeared, Neflix, New York Times & Facebook. FaceBook had a couple additions/changes and Netflix which I never did try with 4.2GM before running app update works just great, thrilled because this is one of the apps that would not run under any of the Betas...

My impression of iOS 4.2GM itself?? It's GREAT!! I am totally digging Multitasking, the ability now to listen to Pandora, check/write mail and research stuff using the two different browsers all at once with no performance loss is just amazing.

PS: Printing also worked well to on my HP 932C which is connected to my Windows 7 PC'd network.

Nope... I upgraded straight from 3.2.1, and now on 4.2 my wifi sucks. The connection icon is up, but the connection is lost after about 1-2 minutes of use.

Google maps and iOS 4.2GM??? CRASH!!

Anybody have an issue looking at satellite maps using google maps in safari or google map app? My ipad crashed hard!!!! Takes me back to the apple boot-up screen.....
I tried numerous times...sometimes it will let me view for a few seconds but it always crashes.

Wifi problems here too

IPhone on 4.1 is ok, MacBook on 10.6.4 is ok, but the iPad on 4.2 keeps dropping wifi. If I'm next to the router, it's all fine, but if I move to a part of the house where next doors' dlink has a comparable signal strength, it no longer connects to the Internet, although it shows me as still connected and with a good DHCP IP address. After that, moving closer to the router doesn't allow any relief. The iPad says the connection is good, but it ain't.

Same sort of experience at work with their bebox router. It works, it doesn't work, and it needs a restarting to connect again. Only there I'm next to the router all the time.

Hitting "renew lease" just leaves it with a useless self assigned IP, sometimes "forget this network" works, but the only thing that fixes it every time is restarting the iPad. Haven't yet tried it with an airport extreme, could that explain the difference in peoples' experience?

Very very frustrating. An Internet tablet with no Internet. And just when I was loving multi-tasking and folders, hoping it's a short fix, might try a restore tonight, don't really want to go back to iOS3 (which worked & reconnected fine)

Could everyone post what iPad and what router they're using to see if we can spot a pattern?

- Wifi iPad 32GB upgraded from 3.2.1
- Linksys WAG200G dsl router on mixed b/g mode, running "wpa personal"
- airport express (g) just running as a node streaming to the stereo
- an apartment of reinforced concrete that seems like a faraday cage sometimes.

None here.. Been using Maps and Google Earth and have had zero issues.

I don't know what is wrong with the battery. It really goes down much faster than before.

Anybody else having the same issue?

Gus

Nope there is no option there. I know the video doesn't work for my apps (netflix, airvideo, etc) but the icon is still there to connect to the apple tv.

Same for me. I noticed it on the first day I had 4.2 installed. My battery usually had approx. 80% left at the end of my work day running 3.2 and now with 4.2 i'm at about 55%.

I have the 64GB/3G version.
