Same for me. I noticed it on the first day I had 4.2 installed. My battery usually had approx. 80% left at the end of my work day running 3.2 and now with 4.2 i'm at about 55%.

I have the 64GB/3G version.

I have noticed that too with my ipad 3G/32GB :confused:

Game center is cool, but not I only have doodle jump, that has support for it. None of my iPad games use it.

like i said about multitasking/fast app switching, the apps can't be updated until 4.2 is released, then you will see a fair few :) like flight control HD, etc.

I will still be jailbreaking when it's avaialable because I like iFile and the ability to change the default browser a lot, but i think I can skip backgrounder and some of the other things i used.

in regards to the ability to change default browser, could just go with atomic? one more less reason to jailbreak...

your gripe is a bit pre-emptive and irrelevant since the apps with updates to support this ability cannot be released until official release of 4.2....

True, but there are already loads of apps that support the multi-tasking in 4.2. How did they manage it?

as far as i know, they are the universal ones that came out with/after 4.0 for iPhone, they must automatically utilise multitasking if it detects it can.
Probably right, but I tried a few and most are Universal that work, but Monkey Island is iPad only and it works OK.

i could only guess that monkey island on ipad is just a port of the iPhone version, they're probably exactly the same app, but they made them seperate to get more money. saves them updating each one seperately too really

Is anyone having problems playing music with their iPads? Specifically, my iPad plays songs 36 seconds into a song. RANDOM! I checked the songs info in iTunes and start and stop times are not selected. Anyone having this problem?

+1 on the battery life. Definitely dropping faster on 4.2 GM.:(
No issues with wifi on any version.:)
I have the 32GB WiFi model.
iTunes beta 10.1 causing me some issues with remote hope that gets fixed!

Multitasking runs just fine for me as well. I regularly have several notetaking apps up, GoodReader, Safari, Dropbox, & Pages during the workday and never need to shut them down. I've been impressed. I wouldn't know there was only 256mb of RAM there if I wasn't such a geek.

That's great to know, as I love my iPad even without multitasking...another question? Is Safari now able to have multiple pages without too much reloading?

As I'm sure most have said, multitasking is a very welcomed edition and the overall battery life is acceptable considering the new features. I don't find it to deplete too quickly but I do stay on top of the multitasking tray.

The only thing I find annoying is that airprint requires that I share the printer on the computer and then the computer must stay on. There is no direct printing for networked computers unless it is direct airprint supported. I'm hoping there will be some kind of workaround regarding that. I think just about any printer can print using a general driver (postscript?). Either way, I would think there could be a way to get a driver on your device for direct printing or be able to see network printers without a shared computer required. Oh well.

I've been using it for some days now and many apps don't work with multitasking or game center. Hope developers update their apps soon.

That is totally normal, as iOS 4.2 hasn't been officially released yet. The only apps that do multitask, are universal ones that are compatible with iOS 4.x and the Apple apps.
I am sure this will change very soon.

you can't expect them to work when they cannot release updates for apps to support it until official release. the amount of times i've seen people complaining about various apps not doing multitasking or whatnot so far with the GM is baffling....

Battery Life Update

I posted that the battery was going down faster with 4.2.

After doing a calibration (running the iPad until the battery dies and then charging it to full) everything came back to normal.

In fact, the battery now seems to last longer! Calibrating really makes a difference.

In love with 4.2!

That is Apple cleverness in software development.

Good to know!

Battery performance

I see the same drop in battery performance with 4.2 GM as well. I get a 1% drop every 3.44 mins when using 3G, Wifi and full brightness sitting on the home screen and no apps running after a reboot. This seems like a major bug to me... :-( 3.2 was much better...

Of course, I love all the new features in 4.2 though!

I will try the calibration as suggested and post the results.

the video will work once the apple tv gets an OS update to enable it, well that's the general consensus.

A-Ha. I was searching for this answer for a while now. I've got 10.6.5, iOS 4.2GM on both my iPad and iPhone. I can stream video from my iPad but only the audio streams while the video plays on the iPad. I though perhaps there was something amiss. So it appears the AppleTV 2 needs a 4.2 update as well. Good catch!
