1. Not very many people use a laptop on Ethernet - Sure, they do on desktops, but not on laptops. It defeats the purpose of a laptop.

2. For the time where you need to do a full backup from time machine, there is something called a USB to Ethernet dongle.

Except for many people their laptop is there desktop, and are often or at least sometimes in places where there is no wireless. Or at some schools you need to connect with an ethernet cable first to setup use on wired.

Lets not forget often times wired is faster than wireless. I would not be willing to give up my ethernet cable. Don't want one? Get an air.

I would love to see a touch screen macbook. although we will probabaly not see that for awhile. I would like it if they made a camera in the back, similar to the iPhone 4 and iPod 4. Longer battery life, and quicker on Safari and FireFox.

All i can think of. :)

Try hovering your fingers over your MBPs screen for half an hour. Then come back and say you want a touch screen MacBook.

Perfect 13"... mmh...

MacBook Pro 13"

Better Resolution (a little low currently... Retina? :D)
Ivy Bridge CPU
6-8 GB Ram
Super Drive
Ethernet port
Both USB 3 and thunderbolt ports (simply replace USB 2 ports by USB 3 ports... but honestly, I don't really mind USB 3 ^^)
32GB SSD for OS X/Windows (with boot camp) and Hard Drive for other data
NVidia GPU (at least 512MB) (Seriously… Intel HD3000...)
Numeric Keypad (I Know that there is no place for it... but Numeric Keypad is cool.)

Maybe a lot too much to be realistic… but it would be suuuuuuch a great computer!

Or maybe i'm "too 2011" to know what will be the next Macbook Pro ^^

MacBook Pro 17" 2012 Ultimate dream machine:

Dual SSD

Weight 2 kg
:apple: :) :apple:

Totaly agree :)

The form factor of a 13" MBP with the power of the 15" MBP with an antiglare screen.

It'd be nice to have the portability of the smaller laptop with the power to hook it up to a larger screen to play games or edit videos faster. I'm getting tired of carrying my 6lbs gaming laptop around.

Keeping it realistic. The new MBP13 only needs to be faster and have more battery life. That's enough to warrant a celebration for 99% of those buying or upgrading:

- Ivy Bridge is probably a given.
- 7 hour battery life to 10
- A tad thinner via wedge design… a few ounces lighter.
- Remove ODD - to facilitate new design & battery
- 4GB Ram will remain the standard
- Ethernet will stay. Too many students need it.

Discrete GPU won't happen on the MBP13 ever again. No dual SSD/HDD setup either. And you Blu-Ray whacks crack me up. You'll never learn. :D

Options
-256gb SSD Option for $350 (vs. $650 now)
-500gb SSD Option for $850 (vs. $1250 now)
-Matte Screen Option
-External ODD for $79
-Multiport Thunderbolt adapters for $49
- Firewire
- USB3
- Express Card
- Ethernet
- (anything else you want)

This is enough for me. I've been disillusioned too many times before.

I did a mockup of what I would like the 2012 pro to look like in terms of size, its based around a 13 inch and uses a 13 inch macbook air screen because it is significantly thiner.
http://tinypic.com/r/9bdnh2/7
This is the sort of thickness I would like out of my pro but it is just a quick photoshop job so dont try and comment saying 'its not going to look like that' this is NOT what the next one will look like, it is just what I would like.

-New case design, out with the optical drive, thinner, lighter.
-15" w/ 1080p option
-Core i5 Ivy Bridge Quad Core processor
-4 GBs of RAM
-500 GB HD
-8-9 hours of realistic battery life
-AMD Radeon 7750M HD

I would pay $2499 for something like this. Battery life is the most important aspect to me though.

8GB is not going to become standard at least for two years.

I see a redesign happen, and Id be happy with the HR Screen Standard, Bigger HDD Standard, or even HDD+SSD Combo, Maybe a bit better graphics, 3 USB ports on the 15". 9 Hour Battery. Seems somewhat realistic, and that would make me happy.

1) Gunmetal color (not quite black)
2) Camera on outside of lid (laugh if you want I think it'd be cool)
3) No cd port - extra hd instead- or even more fans
4) LED screen Apple logo (YouTube it- it looks spool cool)
5) Voice feature where a robotic voice greets you by name every time you login
6) Better speakers
7) Optional color changing backlit keyboard
8) Bio ID (I think that's what it's called) alienware has it, it uses your facial recognition through the webcam to log you in
9) make the trackpad a touchscreen similar to iPhone instead of just glass
10) magnetic field wireless charging

Am I too ambitious?

Having just got a 2011 15" to replace a 2008 15", the direction that would most appeal to me:

-13"
-quad core
-replace odd with discrete gpu
-1440x900 ips display
-replace USB2 ports with usb3 or at least allow thunderbolt adapter
-officially support 16gb ram

Basically I'd love it if the guts of a 13" could be at parity with the 15 and 17" options and you are simply selecting a preferred screen size/resolution.

I'm going to agree with all the people who mentioned higher resolution on the 13.3" MBP. The resolution is alright, but not superior and definitely not worth the high price.

My list for in general:

  • SSD Standard
  • Better cooling for all of them (when you actually use the processor that comes with the 15" it overheats like crazy).
  • Non-integrated graphics.
  • More durable power adapter.
  • 14" MBP (I can dream, can't I?)
  • More color options
  • Make the keys more ergonomic.
  • Option for 6GB ram.
  • 7200rpm standard on non-ssd.
  • Perhaps the ability to use a tablet pen with the touchpad on bigger models?

And for the 13.3"...
  • Higher resolution.
  • Anti-glare display.
  • Built in SSD (really a repeat of standard, but emphasized for this one).
  • Dual core processor (please dear god do not force quad on all the macbook pros, it's overkill and most laptops cannot handle the heat).
  • Advanced cooling (especially for this one)
  • Better built in mic.
  • Thicker (sometimes it feels a little too light).
  • Better PPI.
  • Lower pricing (only slightly). I feel like if the student discount of $100 off was the standard pricing these babies would sell a lot more.

15.4"
  • Make dual core an option or have a built in watercooling/tec.
  • Better graphics.
  • Lower price (currently the thinkpad t520 has better specs not including the processor and is $500 less)
  • Color callibration control (sometimes the colors are way, way too saturated).
  • ability to replace the opti drive with extra storage or battery life.
  • and to repeat, a LOWER PRICE.

Welp that's my list.

One thing I would really not want is a new case design..I love the way this one is now..is it because I don't like change? ehh probably...but I just got this one, so it's not like I am going to be upgrading anytime soon :)

Why does http://guides.macrumors.com/MacBook_Pro_Buyer's_Guide

Say "Neutral - Mid product cycle"

and the Macbook Pro buying guide says this?

"Buy only if you need it - Approaching the end of a cycle"

Which is it? What does this mean?

And as for the topic, some things I would like to see included in the new MBP are;

SSD as standard
New design
Ivy bridge
USB 3

They are not actually "overheating" like crazy... they definitely get hot, no doubt about that, but getting hot is not the same thing as overheating and the terms cannot be interchanged in that manner. They are also designed to get that hot because the aluminum body acts as a large heat sync.

Your mbp will actually shut off to avoid overheating if it gets too hot.

While I don't really think 2012 will be that big of a change, I'll throw out a guess. Mine is for the 13", because that's the only size I care about.

Whatever processor is out from intel, I guess that's ivy bridge
Bump the stock ram to 1600MHz
Drop the SuperDrive
In it's place, put in a ~100GB blade ssd, move the standard HD there, and use leftover space to extend the logic board to be able to squeeze even a low end discrete graphics chip. While it would be nice to have two full-size 2.5" drives, a blade makes so much more sense. It would be nice if it was user replaceable but we know that won't happen.
With 1TB drives retailing for $100, the base price should come with the choice of a 5k1TB or a 7k750GB.
With the hard drove moved, extend the battery over the length of the laptop
Ditch the FireWire, in it's place a second thunder bolt.
USB 3 in place of the 2s
DO NOT remove the ethernet port, if they do they need to drop Pro from the name; it would just be a bloated Air
Keep the same form factor, but kill some of the screen bezel and shoehorn in a ~14" screen, there's enough room in the current model to do so
Offer a high res upgrade (1920x1200 would be BADASS, I'd jump on it even if was a $250 upgrade)
I guess offer a anti glare option, I don't really want it but there's no reason not to offer it.
Keep the body the same, there's no reason to change it. It doesn't need to be thinner, an doing so would only cause heat and space issues.

If they did so, I would be happy to pay $1500 for the entry level model, with $250 on top for the high res screen. He'll, even if the only change was a resolution bump to x1050 or better I would really have to think of picking one up, and just leaving my current 13" hooked up to my TV full time(I'm planning on buying a mini when they're refreshed but would much rather get a new MacBook).

Hmm....

-Black aluminum, with better cooling
-16GB RAM, 512GB SSD and 2TB HDD - no SuperDrive
-15" OLED display
-Better keyboard! Love the feel of ThinkPads

USB 3.0 - just a little speed boost
The obvious Processor boost - quad core in the 13"? At least an i7 base...
Higher memory clock speed (1333+)
High resolution screen base
Keep the glossy
Backlight color changing (only reason I'm jealous of Alienware)
keyboard finish options (im blabbering)
one more important thing: graphics update. I would love it if apple pushed their sleek, power restrained, thin design to the limit with the most powerful graphics card they could muster. I'm a big gamer.

I will start with the feasibly possible/what Apple should do and then move on to my dream.

So most importantly, in my opinion, upgrade those graphics on the 13"

Take out the Optical Drive and with the extra room you can fit 16 GB Flash Memory and a bigger graphics card. The 16 GB is for a boot drive and the graphics should go accordingly:

6670 in the 13"
6850 in the 15"
6870 or 6950 in the 17"

Pretty much everything else is fine.

It's nice to see that I'm not the only person who likes gaming and Macs. I wish Steve Jobs would just stop hating video games...
Now for the unrealistic:

Less than 1" thick and the top is removable and turns into an iPad.
