Please post descriptions of the apps in your top 5 so we can discover more great one's! Sorry if I sound like a broken record, it's just to be helpful!!! :apple:

Does Chronosync work well for you?
I've been looking for an app to keep my iMac and MacBook Pro Home folder contents in sync and have had poor results with Goodsync for Mac.
Hoped maybe Chronosync would work better.

Thanks.

BTW, my fave 5 apps are:

Parallels 6 + Win 7 Pro - self explanatory
Better Snap Tool - provides Windows 7 edge snapping feature and sizing for Macs
Caffeine - keeps display from dimming when active
Right Zoom - forces green button to completely maximize the window to full screen, not just some arbitrary size increase
Roboform Everywhere - stores and fills in passwords, logs you in if you click the shortcut

And a bonus app:
Wallpaper Wizard (I know, lame, but they've got some really great photos and artwork!)

Revising my list;

Photoshop
BetterTouchTool
MenuTunes
ChronoSync
SuperDuper

wow! top 5, hard to say - let me start with what's on my dock - these I use almost daily

mail, ical, firefox, skype, itunes, final cut, color, motion, mpeg streamclip, lightroom, stickies, iphoto, carbon copy cloner, vmware fusion, and pages

so here's my top 5 - no particular order

1) pages - LOVE THIS! I can format the heck out of some brochures/documents, etc

2) Dropbox - great for filesharing

3) Carbon Copy Cloner - backing up is a MUST

4) MPEG - it's FREE and a MILLION times better than compressor - the old compressor that is

5) final cut - love me some editing

Honorable mention - VMware Fusion - makes running quickbooks for my business a breeze

Updated

I thought I would update my list, based on a couple ideas from this thread:

1) Safari - Web Browser
2) Spotify - Free Music Streaming
3) Aperture - Apple's "Pro" Photo Editing App
4) Bit Torrent - Straight Forward Torrent Client
5) Final Cut Pro X - Professional Video Editing

Widgets: Coconut Battery, iStat Pro, Airlock, Mighty Monitor, Twitter, GFX Card Status, Caffeine, Twitter.

1. Sparrow
2. Reeder
3. Spotify
4. MS Word
5. Utilities like smcfancontrol, cookbook controller, lab tick
6. uTorrent

In no real order, although this is an OSX list - what it runs on is irrelevant..
vmware fusion - win*, linux variants, bsd
eclipse with far too many plugins
Things - task management
freemind - open source mindmap software
iterm2 - a tabbed terminal that mostly doesn't suck. :)
textmate - decent text editor

Well, that's 6. some of the rest with semi-worthwhile mention..
skype - waiting for the worlds worst UI to become usable again :-/
chrome
visio under vmware
jollysfastvnc pro - vnc/remote desktop viewer
remote desktop
picassa - b/c iphoto is a bad joke, mostly for thumbnails and tagging
sketchup - great for various drawings
Acrobat Pro
openoffice
misc CS5.5
sandvox - basically an iWeb that doesn't suck
*AMP stack
postgres
pgadmin

Logic Pro - for producing music
MainStage - for playing live keyboards/electronic music
iTunes - music, podcasts, TV shows
Safari - web browsing
The Hit List/Things - to do lists and projects. Making up my mind as to which one to stick with.

My top 5 would be

Evernote - If I have a random thought, decided to keep a tips and tricks list or need to take notes for a class lecture.. This would be the app I use. The thing I like about this is how its compatible with an iPad, iPod and iPhone. There is not only one way to put and see information.. Love that.

Reeder - I'm new to this RSS app. I've used NewsFire and other RSS feeds before. I like this one because of the simplicity. The only thing I don't like is how you can only edit through Google Reader.. But hey, this thing is simple and clean as long as you know how to get around all that. I just think for the average user, it would be easier for Reeder to allow customization of subscriptions within the app itself. It amazes me how much news you can see in one day these days.

iWork (Pages, Keynote) - You may say.. What?! I use all three, but mostly Pages and Keynote for school. I prefer iWork over Microsoft Office, even though they're almost the same. Apple hit a home run with these apps and I love everything about them. The funky thing I find is how the "Inspector" plays such a HUGE role in preferences.

Web Browsers (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari) - I like using multiple web browsers but use Chrome more than the others. It feels faster than the others. It also depends what site I am on and what I am doing. I have noticed in the last year that I must have multiple web browsers simply because of school alone. Some classes I take have "online" supplements or grade checking/HW helping/note giving type that require different browsers. Diversity at its finest.

Mail - Before Lion OS X, I probably would have not even mentioned or had this installed. But post Lion, this app is one of my favorite. I like what they've done to re-vamp this app. I was using Thunderbird before, which was a lot simpler but now Mail is starting to win my vote in the e-mail department.

1. Caffeine ! She's my baby, no mac is complete without it.
2. iCal
3. Stickies
4. iTunes
5. Mail

Keen to see most commonly listed... if anyone's bothered looking through them all and counting :D

From being a mac user for 1 day, my top 5 applications:
1) Macports (Feels like freebsd and well maintained)
2) Eclipse (C++ and Java development, using Xcode for previewing source code files)
3) Office 2011 (Great compatibility with Office for Windows)
4) Wineskin Winery (Easier than Wine on Linux)
5) Safari (Love the user interface, using ClickToFlash and adblock extensions)

My list has probably changed;

1. CoolBook- UnderVolt your CPU. I can now run CPUTest, which stress tests te CPU, or any program for that matter, for hours and my temps won't go above 75* with my fans never topping 5200. A must have.

2. "Tweaks"
TotalFinder- Adds chrome like tabs to finder
HyperDoak- Adds Win 7 like previews when you hover over open dock icons, as well as 7 like "window snapping"
BetterTouchTool- Lets you set more multitouch controls
iStat(whichever the $20 paid one is)- Shows all your stats in the menu bar

3. Chrome Canary- Web browser, gets updates before all other versions of chrome, and has a solid yellow icon.

4. Fluke- An apple script in an app that let's you add FLAC to iTunes. No more settling for 320 or whatever, you now can have real FLAC.

5. iCal- love being able to add events on either my iphone or MacBook and have them show on both.

Aperture and Word were close, but just missed the cut.

Caffeine - found thanks to this thread, thank you!
Dropbox
MS Office
Alfred - my personal butler, LOVE this little productivity tool
Safari

For those of you who use Chrome, how? I had downloaded it but it just didn't work. It is the only browser I use on my PC these days but I just couldn't make it work on my Mac, seemed very buggy.
