Whether you prefer the material design or not, if it's running on iOS, it should look more like iOS not Android.

That's fair comment. That being said if all the Google apps adopt material design, regardless of platform, it's an extension of the brand. I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree.

Couldn't disagree more. Material design is positively terrible. And those dialogs are unbalanced visually and have terrible touch targets. Material design is a fancy name for terrible design.

I suppose that's why there's chocolate and vanilla.
To me, the virtual layers and overall "feel" of material design trumps the inconsistent look and feel of Ive's work on iOS. I'm of the opinion Mattias Duarte has him beat on software design.

I like it.

I'm shocked to hear that so many people hate it.

I like material design quite a bit. I think it's professional and simple, and not too over-the-top with the color palette or animations.

I hate the subscriptions page. The previews are needlessly big, especially on my 6 plus. And I'm supposed to browse channels just by their icon now?

The bar wouldn't be so bad if it were translucent like the native iOS ones.

I doubt all of iOS is Ive's design same with Duarte and material design. We sometimes give the people on top too much credit. Even still I think Google could find a way to keep their brand identity and still follow Apple's HIG.

To all crying over how much you don't like Android, take your blabber elsewhere. Android is excellent as is iOS.
Google's globalization of Material Design is very interesting but I believe the old UI was MUCH better. I downgraded from this very update on my Moto X, it's just atrocious. Why why do we have to scroll multiple pages just to access features that were right in front of you before?

I don't mind the design it looks ok, however, the icon is what I find the worst part of the update. I don't understand why all these apps are going with the all white icon design, I personally find it horrible. All the color on my phone has been washed with white.
Agreed. Except not liking the sea of red inside the app either. Soon we will have Palm Pilots again all black and white icons. Or all white so it appears.

Please re-read your first sentence, pause a moment, and (this is the important part) think. It's like reporting that water is wet isn't it?

Why would/should Google forego their design language and visual brand identity if Apple approves the app as is? I'll answer for you, it doesn't make business sense; that's what corporations, including the Cupertino kids, do and what their shareholders demand.

Google hasnt yet bring audio on background so i wouldnt expect them to even support PIP.... they want us to always be inside their app. Also they announced a couple of months ago that they are going to drop Google+ profile connection if someone wants to create a YT channel..... it still requires it. Without a YT channel someone could not log in in 3rd party YT Apps like ProTube or Tuber or YouPlayer which are far superior than Googles c...p.

Oh no. Oddly enough, for a short while a few months ago, a YouTube update that I installed had this interface. It was shortly reversed to the old design about a week or two later. I thought that the design caused so much backlash that Google went back to the drawing board. However, here we find ourselves again. What.

Err, you're just dismissed other people for stating their opinions right before stating your own.

The entire app feels even more cramped than before on my iPhone 6, it’s so uncomfortable to use. Visually unbalanced now with the coloured (especially red) navigation bars, huge navigation bars everywhere that take away screen estate, especially when you’re scrolling upwards on a channel or playlist page. Beyond poor.
Its insanely visually unbalanced! And the navigation bars are way bigger then they need to be. I also feel it's cramped on iPhone 6. It's as if they didn't try at all.

Excuse me sir, do you happen to work on the Google design team?

Is it bad to like something that's by Google and not by Apple?

Not saying the iOS design is bad, but certainly not the best nor as good as stock Android in my opinion. :p

They followed the same language in a lot of apps. Hangouts app has the same big top bar, but green and not red. Even the Google app is like that, but blue.
The top bar looks big because the red colour creates more visual impact.

We should rate 1-star to all of these apps then :D. Doesn't follow iOS language :p
