This is terrible looking, I will not be updating, you tube keeps ruining their app with every update. This is so cluttered and the colors are awful, what a mess!!

Holy cow this is ugly

I mainly use YouTube app on my Minix Android set top box and I hated the new design when they released it a month or so ago but it has grown on me. Can't complain too much because it is free (although the data collecting is Google's way of paying for these apps and more so not really free) but I have tried many alternative and third-party YouTube apps and they're all pretty dire.

Boy this app is so damn ugly and I actually like red.. Why does Google constantly feel the need to change the look so much... Do they have ADD for GUI's or something. -__-

Can someone do us a favor and do a backup of your phone on a computer then retrieve the stored Youtube.ipa file of the more appealing version and post it... The last time I checked we still have the ability to drag and drop .ipa files in iTunes to install apps.

So for giggles this morning I decided to download it and noticed the app icon is different. It's no longer like the old red pop out icon like the last one. But flat. But the new UI is still like the old one, lol. This is so weird.

Incoming 1 star ratings in retaliation of the 1 star ratings on Move To iOS because it didn't follow Android design.
I don't think it is really retaliation, it is just because they released an update after iOS 9/6s just came out and they support none of the new features.

Exactly. Where is PiP and 3D Touch support?

First off, here's your third party relief

„Tubex - Videos und Musik für YouTube“ von Baslas Lian
https://appsto.re/de/arDb4.i

as regular client, even has 1080p playback without dash playback!
Looks a lot like the old design, the sidebar autohide which is annoying, but at least there still is one with easy playlist access, etc...

„YouPlayer - Video Player for YouTube“ von Homegrown Software Ltd
https://appsto.re/de/T2JFH.i

for Slide Over and PIP

The new design propagated to an old app version for me as well, seems like they merely had to unlock the change and implemented the base before.

I think the changes are awful to say the least, the iPad app reminds me of Android of 2-3 years ago, hell even nowadays there are plenty of apps on Android that are poorly scaled up smartphone versions.

Love this redesign. Imho Google is ahead of Apple in terms of pleasant, usable and modern UI design.

Normally I'd agree or at least say that Google has caught up considerably, but the new Youtube app design is awful.

Then again this massively depends on how you use Youtube, if the changes cater to the way you browse Youtube they might make a lot of sense, however to me they make using Youtube a needlessly cumbersome experience.

I use an iPhone myself so I'm not getting into an Android/iPhone childish debate with you. I've worked with Apple products since the early 90's so I've heard all this crap before and quite frankly it's stupid to swear allegiance to brand.

That's strange. I've had the new Youtube app for a few weeks now. Can't remember exactly when it auto downloaded to my phone, but certainly a while before the new iPhones came out as its on my iPhone 6.

I wonder if it's being deployed staggered across different countries (I'm in the UK)?

I remember thinking at the time it was much harder to navigate and the UI was/is confusing and ugly.

It kept trying to give it to me. It would just randomly show up from time to time. Each time I would delete the app and re-download it to get the old UI back.

Now that its permanent I just deleted it. Can't stand the new design.

Are the red bar and icons for subscriptions supposed to be new? Because I've had that look for weeks now!
As said numerous times already. Google was doing a trial run with this new design for months now. You were probably randomly selected to have the new design during this period. Yesterday was the official release of this update to the public.

Right, sorry. I didn't read the other posts.

I wonder how they acquired feedback? I was "randomly selected" but I didn't realize it. I thought something was wrong with the app so I kept deleting it and re-downloading it to get back to the old UI. Sadly it looks like I missed my chance to RRAAAAAAGGGEEEE.

I can't stand the app for one reason. Each time in Safari and look up a video, it asks me if I want to watch in the YouTube app. No thanks. Stop asking. If I wanted to open it in YouTube, I'd open the app myself.

This is what I'm trying to figure out. I posted early but no one replied. I updated the app on my iPhone 6s Plus and it looks exactly the same and functions the same, except the app icon being different.
