it's the word microsoft.

They haven't changed it since 1987, and there have only been 2 microsoft logos.

There have actually been 3:

It's crap.

Btw, arn, it's called mac rumors let me remind everyone.

Not zune rumors.

So who gives a ..., I don't, most people here don't...

Lg has some great touch mp3 players, so does samsung, and iriver, and sansa, did we ever see news about them on page one? NO.

Then Why The Heck Do We Get Page One News About MS Crapware Players?:mad::mad: Enough Already.

We saw it being announced we laughed at marketplac and the legendary ineptness of ms, ok, let's not have this plugged here for no reason. For crying out loud all the above brands have more market share in media players than ms and they produce vastly better products, show these instead....

I did tell you where the problem was earlier

Still two topics I posted about previous, and hardly addressed.

How long will the OLED last before the brightness fades out?

What is amazing is that I am reading "The Paradox of Choice". I do think that we have all been spoiled rotten by Apple with their usability and design.:) No wonder we cannot accept that Microsoft's design of the Zune HD is good in its own way.

Screws? maybe its there to change the HD or battery or <insert other component>

Large font covering 15% of the space on top? maybe to help identify where you are, among the different menus. This is simplification as MS perceive it

Browser? So far, they have indicated IE. But if they included a Webkit browser just before release, what would you say for it?

We all need to do the same thing we did for Pre. Not judge until we have the device in our hands.

Good question. Don't know.

EXACTLY!! Since I switched and also bought some shares, I'm closely following the share price and some rumors websites. Everybody always goes crazy: two camera's!, turn-by-turn navigation!, OLED screen!, Netbooks and Tablets! But when John Mayer is tuning his guitar to the end of the keynote, the shareprice slumps, because all we got was a new back for the iPhone, a shuffle that is almost invisible and speaking, and a softwarestore full of applications that go *poop*...

It's never good enough..

Apple is a good software and hardware company that makes great products that integrate with eachother perfectly. But the fanboys expect flying cars, cloned pets and girlfriends who don't complain to be introduced at each keynote.

Ok, I got a bit carried away ... I agree with you though.

What I do to take some of the disappointment out is just look at the rumors and assume that they're not true. Yes, I want the new iPhone to have a matte back, but I'm going to assume that it will still be glossy (because that's all we have to go on) and I'll be pleasantly surprised if it is matte.

In a word - access.

(I am an ex journalist and know there are some doors you don't want slamming)

Well, the zune pc software is not a great advert, it is overstyled and under-substanced with some serious compatibility and performance issues.

Does anyone actually use it to manage their media library?

I am a CURRENT journalist and work in radio - I realize where you are coming from but these sites bash all things MS and Apple. Why change now?

D

...victim indeed.

Hey doug, go to engadget or some other such site to get your ms news, I like in my macrumors type site to get apple news, ged it? I am the rational one here, despite your ludicrous attempt at irony. Apple insider reports apple is spending tons of $$$ on their stores, rebranding them and bettering them, and Steve jobs being in good health and popping up at Apple, and we here get yet another zune hd marketplac story...

Did we watch the same video? I saw a 1 minute clip of someone flipping through some photos, going to a radio tuner, and clicking music. Browser? I didn't see how it looked. Apps? Didn't see those either. So if you base your purchasing decision off of a 1 minute clip and the OLED screen and a 'speed improvement' that I didn't see (and I have an iPhone and iPod Touch running 3.0 and its very fast), Microsoft has really gotten to you.

Why do you immediately say that MS has 'gotten' me? I own not a SINGLE PC or MS product - so no, MS does not 'have' me! I think the ZuneHD LOOKS great and seems very fast. My iPhone 3G and 2G are FINE items as is my 1G iTouch - but I like the look and UI of the ZuneHD. Does that mean I have to turn in my Apple fanboy card, or can I get away with a warning, this one time?

Hmmm - the iphone is coming up for its third overhaul in as many years
If they keep doing it every year where will we be in a decade?

Personally- i like the black iphone, my wife has a the white.
But then mirror on the ipods is lovely too.

God can anyone stand this guy anymore? He is ruining this thread, this thread has 200 or so posts and 175 of them are this guy attacking people who like this product. Get over yourself TREQ you whiny noob. Get a life and stop trashing these threads with your desperate attempts to get people to hate microsoft.

P.S. Your whitty jokes are not even a little bit funny.

You're not alone. This guy is quite annoying.

You guys are amazing. I've been purchasing apple products for years, and even I can see some good in what microsoft is doing. Stop being fanboys and grow up. There is plenty that Apple can improve on with both the iPhone and iPod Touch. OLED screens? Did anyone even see that? Thats a fairly large step forward. Heck, this thing even has a radio. Larger play, stop and pause button? Please and thank you! Competition is what pushes this industry and I for one love having amazing choices laid out in front of me. This is all good for the industry.

And as-if M$ was some quirky independent upstart company. M$ couched as "David" to Apple's "Goliath" is hi-lar-ious.

That said, it's not a bad think the new Zune HD is getting good reviews and quickly becoming an anticipated gadget. That puts A LOT of pressure on Apple to vastly improve the Touch, and not in the lame "look, new colors" kind of way.

I wish some of you guys would wake up sometimes, please???? How in hell is the Zune HD gonna put pressure on Apple? It's nothing new, the original iPod Touch was better than the Zune HD and the new Touch and the app store are king plus the iPod has the branded name as well. You can only put pressure on a company when you come up with a concept that kicks the competitions butt.
In this case MS would have to come up with a breakthrough device with a store as big as the app store and get people to trust them as a hardware company. The Xbox is the only hardware they sell big on the market. Apple has THEE reputation of making great and cool devices, not many people are just gonna jump ship and buy the Zune HD. Too little, too late.

Zune

I think MicroSoft has again missed the point.

With such a device the last thing you want to represent is an OS. it's an Information device, not a desktop computer.

There still using the "Start Button - Menu" theory.

Apple figured out a long time ago that removing the complexity to the user was key. Keep the OS out of the way. The only concept of OS should be to those who develop applications.

I find it amazing that after 30 years that some still think that representing an Electronic-Piece of paper is the key to a user interface. People do not think of the world in terms of a notepad, the perceived world/reality are Objects with Relationships. And as the user's perception changes so does the Reality. For example, at home provides a different perspective of the world than that of being at work.

Sorry to babble..

Bottom line... these devices need the ability to change with the user and their perception. Microsoft has never figured this out... they simply want compatibility with Windows. All of their SmartPhone demonstrate this, as does the Zune it just provides a little higher abstraction.

Ui

How come PC users say that the UI of OSX is stupid eye candy when all they want is function, only to claim a huge victory over the incredibly functional iphone/touch interface because the Zune UI is, from what I can see, ALL eye candy?

The "I don't care that it sucks until it doesn't" routine kills me.

Does this actually output to 720p HDMI? That's pretty amazing, but to say that no other mac devices do that is... weird. I have a G5 tower playing HD video through HDMI into my TV as we speak. It was about $30 to set it up. Seeing as the computer's no longer usable for my work, it's basically a free HD apple TV. So, while your touch/phone doesn't output to 720p, saying no apple has that ability is... weird.

are you talking about "out of the box?" cause I'm pretty damn sure the zune's not coming with a 3' HDMI cable in the box, so what's the dif?

What's the worry?

So MS finally caught up with the iPod et al. After messing it up, they finally got it right years later. Do you really believe Apple doesn't have something new in development that will make that, and all of our iPhones and iPods seem passé? They're just gonna make everyone look slow again.

No Mac client software!

Well the best feature of the Zune experience is the Markplace subscription service. My girlfriend has it and it is very cool. Downloand any song you want and fill your device to capacity.

There is NO Mac client software to sync to the service so it will be useless to Mac users.

You're not alone. This guy is quite annoying.

Get over yourself and don't read his posts then, or go to some zune site, ok forget that, no one cares enough to post in a zune forum, go to some ms fanboy site and praise the graces of the zune. But you can't have it both ways, both be here, and expect people to praise the zune and be uncritical of MS. Like I said get over yourselves, and it's democracy, just cause someone has an opinion that's different than yours you can't tell them "get a life" and call them noobs, let alone when that opinion is one in favour of apple in an apple forum....

That actually looks pretty cool. Hopefully Apple will step up to the plate and match some of their improvements, although I'm not getting my hopes up.

Regardless of how good the unit is, I have to be skeptical about how well it will compete with the touch based on how many apps are available. It's a chicken and egg thing, if there are no apps, why buy it, and if you are a dev and nobody is buying it, why support it with apps?

I use Parallels, but it sucks that there's no native OS X client.
