BAHA! only just

No, it does. I rip and store my Blu-ray movies on my Mac and use my Apple TV to play them, so not "just", it does.

hahaha are you serious?? they are worse quality then regular DVDs

Uh, are you serious? 720p HD videos through the Apple TV are far better than regular 480p (or even 1080p "upconverted") DVD's. I'm thinking you might not understand the relationship of resolution and HD. I also think you've never used an Apple TV.

But since this thread is about the Zune HD, it could be very good hardware wise, but Apple will always have 2 huge pieces of the puzzle that Microsoft doesn't.......the App Store & iTunes. Thousands of games and Apps to choose from......as well as the largest and easiest to use online music store out there. Apple has done extremely will with the integration of all these. Microsoft has not, and that's why I don't see the Zune HD as a threat to the iPod unless they really pull something amazing out their rears (and the ability to play HD videos onto an HDTV from the Zune isn't one of those either)

I'd just like to point out that whilst Nvidia's quotes of battery life are very intriguing, they mean nothing until the shipping OS and Applications are tried out by someone who has more than a 5 min play with the thing. I suspect the Zune HD will have a slightly worse battery life than what Nvidia advertises. On top of that the iPod touch will have 25 to 50% increase in lifespan as witnessed in the 3G to 3GS upgrade.:)

i dont wish to be rude, i just think how funny it is how far from the truth it is that the :apple:TV can play HD format (just because it can play that resolution doesnt mean it qualifies as HD lol). since when does 5mbps make something HD?? uncompressed DVD is like 11.08mbps, double that of your "HD". anyway, this is the wrong area to chat, PM me if you disagree

Um... Codecs? What about OTA HD or Sky, I don't know the exact bitrate of either but surely it's lower than a standard DVD or Bluray. Yet they use codecs to bring the filesize down. I mean I recorded a few HD streams from the TV and they fit on a regular 9gb DVD, even a full length film. It's just bluray has the option of going uncompressed or using much higher quality bitrates.

But yea. Above 720i = HD. (hell if it was above the old US standard of 480 then us in Pal land were already in HD :D)

im not seeing your point, what do codecs that have nothing to do with the Zune/cmoputer have to do with this??

seems to run very smooth! i HATE that UI still....

lol...come on bro...that UI is slick. but, everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

i love my apple products...and i honestly don't mind microsoft. i believe this year is the year that microsoft makes a big comeback. bing is steadily gaining momentum, windows 7 is awesome...and zune hd is shaping up to be the mp3 player with great sound ...of course these are all my own opinions. :D

IMO, the UI is plain, ugly and unprofessional. but thats just me. it is VERY smooth though i will give it that, my iPod is laggy and old :p (5G video)

M$ has put alot of effort (finally) into these things, it will be interesting to see if the consumers choose style or move to the dark side (lol).

that depends on what quality you play it at :p i am a lossless type of person :) so it cant get much better then that eheh

but yea, will be interesting to see..

style? i actually love the aesthetics of the zune hd as well... we shall see how consumers talk with their wallet though. the general opinion seems unusually high concerning the zune hd and with each new video released on it - the more people seem to love it...same as me.

sony walkmans - although the ui sucks...the sound is superior compared to the old zune and ipod at a distant third. ...seems like the zune hd will be able to tout their sound quality...

style meaning the whole "popular" thing, between teenages and all that. the iphone and zune are not very "business" like and are quite useless for managing all that sort of business stuff (for light users its ok) - do we agree that the iphones/ipods etc are aimed at the more social market?

do we know the price of it? how will it compare to other products on the market?

sony has always been great for their sound quality, but like you said their UI is really annoying (i remember having a walkmen, WOW was that hard to use).

for use, i would say the zune's UI is way to simplistic - the more adventurous users will get bored with it..

also: i noticed the guy in that video only uses it on the table, so i wonder what using it in your hands is like and how responsive it is on the train/bus etc.

of course i agree on the social market aspect.

i think simple can be elegant.

there where other videos of the zune hd being demoed while in a persons hand - still smooth and easy to use.

ok great :)

you should go back to the DOS days then, you would fit right in ;)

ahh ok good to hear, personally im not that fond of touch screen, too inefficient. great interactivity though (and at times better usability).

MS seems to be a few years behind in this area. why pay the same price as the iphone for only a music player?

ok great :)

quite humourous when in fact apple prides themselves on their minimalisitic approach to design..."simple is more"

...and i knew someone was going to bring up the media player vs phone debate...

contract fees? monthly fees? at&t? ...and while we are it...why bother buying an ipod touch vs an iphone? exactly. because theres a market still for media only products. ...and the zune hd pricing is pretty much on par with ipod touch 16 and 32gig pricing.

I think the black one looks alot more sleek than the silver. Is it just me? Also the color tones of the silver one makes it look like a 1st gen iPhone.

yes, but they will normally implement a UI that looks attractive yet is still simple to use

beauty is perspective opinion is it not? and it seems that this attempt by M$ has quite a bandwagon of opinions this time around - supportive ones. my opinion is that it is attractive by design. ;)

yup totally in the eyes of the beholder, if you like it then thats fine by me. my opinion rests in other areas. they might be trying to cut costs LOL!

I would love a Zune HD, but you know I have a Mac. And no I don't want to use Boot Camp or VMWare Fusion to sync it. Restarting the computer or even just using VMWare Fusion is a pain in the ass when all you want to do is sync 1 song or update a podcast.
