I thought he was going to do that. What an absolute idiot and ******! It's not even because it was an iPhone, but blending anything of value like that, wow, what a prick!

Not my choice of words in public, but privately...

He could've saved lives with the value of money and material he just wasted...people like him make me ashamed for being American, or human for that matter.

No better. And I still don't care. Someone buys something, they can do what the hell they want with it.

Yes they can. Absolutely. But, should they? I don't know. It just annoys me to see a perfectly good something destroyed like that. And it certainly doesn't endear me to their ugly blender. There's precious little care these days for how much trash we make, how much we waste, or how arrogant we are in the process. I know it's just an ad. But it still puts me off nonetheless.

The same argument can be used for those that buy an iPhone or any gadget for that matter...you could save lives or buy kilos of rice to poor people in the U.S. instead of buying a stupid smartphone...right?

Would it be a waste if someone bought one and dropped it and broke it?

Would it be a waste if someone bought one and lost it?

Would it be a waste if someone bought one and it was stolen?

Would it be a waste if someone bought one, used it as a phone to close a business deal?

Would if be a waste is someone bought one, used it as a promotional tool for their company?

Get over yourself - no matter what ANYONE says - it really is just a damn phone.

Exactly. And what logic is it that just because he blended it, that's one someone else won't get. Does that mean that someone is going to be forever without an iPhone 3G? NO! Apple made 6 million iPhones before the 3G. I don't think anyone didn't get one when Robinson blended the first one.

iPhones are not a nonrenewable resource.

The Will it Blend series is one of the most successful viral marketing campaigns ever.

Before “Will It Blend,” Blendtec was a faceless company that manufactured blenders; their consumer grade blenders run around $400. The Will It Blend story begins shortly after George began working for the company. He was walking around the factory and stumbled upon Blendtec CEO Tom Dickson. Dickson was testing the new bearings in a blender by blending a 2 X4. The company’s employees went on with their work unphased, apparently the practice of “extreme blending” was a regular occurrence there at the factory.

George was smart enough to recognize this gem and turned it into the widely acclaimed “Will It Blend” series of videos. He simply unveiled the face that the company had all along. The videos were distributed online and Blentec employees reached out to their personal networks to let them know. Word spread and “Will It Blend” became a viral phenomenon, garnering of 100 million views in total. Blendtec’s marketing now serves as a profit center for the company, the videos have made over $50,000 in ad revenue from Revver.

In short, two years ago no one knew who Blendtec was and now they've put a quirky, recognizable face on their company.

Regardless of what you think of blending an iPhone 3G, it's smart marketing for them.

Lol I'd like to see a video of him entering the store with a bucket full of iPhone parts, drop it onto the counter and say "I don't know what happened, it just stopped working".

Would be a great funny follow-up to the "will it blend" marketing stunt. :D

Have they ever tried to blend.... blenders from their competitors? Now THAT would be funny! (obligatory YouTube link)

They did that with a video cam corder at best buy.. lol lol

its a 2 part video... search it.

I think the ads are brilliant and somewhat existential.

Absolutely beautiful.

Why is everyone so angry? It's just an iPhone!

Didn't you read the small print? That's actually one of the escape clauses, as long as he can prove it was accidental (which he has video proof of!).

As far as this being an advertising campaign, I guess he doesn't like selling to slow people, as this "highbrow" advertising concept has gone over the head of so many commenters. Give $200 to a poor person? Hell, why doesn't Microsoft divert its millions from its new counter-Mac advertising campaign and save a country in Africa? Why don't companies stop advertising altogether and just make every Saturday free hand-out day? What about Apple? Goodbye Justin Long and John Hodgman, hello indigents?

Get over yourselves people. It's just a piece of electronics. You'll get one, don't worry. If it was really that important to you, you should've gotten up earlier and waited in line longer. You're no more entitled to one than anyone else. And these are a great advertising gimmick for this guy. For minimal cost, he gets everyone else to do his distribution effort and now tons of people know about Blendtec blenders and their ridiculous toughness. Hell, I'm thinking about getting one myself (after I find some reviews), partly cause they seem good, partly cause it'd be hilarious (I love me some internet jokes).

Wow. Exactly. Just think how much money I could have donated to the poor if I didn't purchase this computer. Think of how much work I could have done if I wasn't surfing on MacRumors. Perhaps not everyone is understanding the opportunity cost of potential outcomes here. I find the videos entertaining. I think the whiners on here are even more entertaining however.

Call it a viral video or marketing scheme, it's still a waste of money to try to show off your product this way. How many people will use the blender to blend non-food items? Seriously I don't think I would want to buy the blender just because you can make anything go down to nothingness, especially an iPhone.

I don't care if it was an iPhone or Blackberry or whatevermajig that comes into the world for all that matters. Trying to prove how "powerfool" your tool is only legitimate when you use it for what it is intended for. Yeah good joke for some, but to other just utter foolishness.

In the spirit of the many, many "iPhone dropped in toilet/coffee/pool/wash machine/etc." threads on here, if he takes it back to the Apple Store and feigns ignorance ("It just stopped working!"), will they replace it? :D
I think that the finely grounded black powder will sort of give it away. ;)

THAT"S LIKE PUTTING A BABY IN A BLENDER!!!! EXCEPT WORSE!!!!
Obviously you are not serious.

exactly!! c'mon people.
it's a PHONE!
Exactly.

the iPhone is just a gadget that will be outdated in a year anyways. shesh.
Why will it be outdated in a year if it still works?

No one needs a blender with that much torque. Funny videos nonetheless.
I found it very interesting to see just how the iPhone 3G came apart. Not so much funny, but interesting. Cool.

He bought it, he can do what he wants with it, aye?
:)

Looks like it.

Why is everyone so angry? It's just an iPhone!
Good question.

This was funny the first few times it was done but now it's just old and getting ridiculous. This whole advertising campaign ran out of steam a while ago and if they keep doing this crap then it's going to turn people off their product. I think somebody should make a video of one these stupid blenders being thrown into a wood chipper to see if the blender will blend just to get back at these guys.

This is so stupid. Old news. Everything will blend. We get it and no I'm not buying your blender, thank you very much.

Idiots.

Actually no....

I have killed many, many, many blenders the first time I blended ice with them.

I just took a brand new one back to the store a few weeks ago. My previous one died (on ice). I purchased a brand new one, and it tore itself apart when I tried to blend the ice.

Didn't even get a single use out of it.

All have been established brands.

I make a lot of iced drinks, and need a good blender. If it can do an iPhone, it will go through my ice.

I'm sold.

Of course, I'll probably want to see them do it in person so I can verify that it wasn't faked, and I'll want to actually inspect the blender to make sure I think it will survive.

But, hey, if it will do an iPhone, should be just fine on ice.

And to think, before this thread, I didn't even know who they were. Thank you to the whiners. You've helped me find a new blender.

Now, the only question I have remaining... What about the battery? Don't they usually say not to puncture, incinerate, or otherwise damage the batteries? Where's the big explosion????

I just don't get this whole Apple "religion" thing.

How dare anyone say anything bad about Apple.

How dare anyone do anything to an Apple.

You are a traitor if you do either.

Get over it. Apple's products are just tools. Just like any other product, they serve a function.

These people who complain are the same ones who discard the previous machine as soon as a new revision comes out. That's just as wasteful.

So many people here buy a new Apple product every time a new revision comes out. They just have to have the latest and most recent product revision no matter how minor it is. And, yet they don't see that as wasteful?

Buy a tool to do the job. Use it until it won't do the job. Then buy a new one.
