Not my choice of words in public, but privately...

He could've saved lives with the value of money and material he just wasted...people like him make me ashamed for being American, or human for that matter.

AMEN. I didn't wanna come out and say the whole, children are starving in the world, thing, but it is true, and this whole indulgent entertainment at any cost just for some cheap thrills is sickening.

I'm not perfect, but I do appreciate what I have and try to help others instead of wasting. I even feel bad if I waste too much food at a restaurant. I don't know how people can do things like this. Maybe they should visit a third world country sometime. It really changes your perspective.

What do you say about this argument?

Also, this one?

This question is not limited to floatingspirit. Any of you that are so offended by this video can answer.

It's not that people aren't allowed to do what they want with their money. And it is not about using these kinds of stunts to turn a profit which could in turn better benefit others. I am fine with both of those arguments. BUT, ULTIMATELY, It is about accomplishing all of those goals in a way that uplifts others and not just stimulates cheap indulgent american thrills!!!

Sorry for the double post. Mod please combine, thanks.

You are so materalistic, all of you! How can you be upset when someone else destroys his/her own toy?

Surely it's a jealousy thing. They wish that he had given it to them instead of destroying it.

Personally, I wouldn't care if someone purchased every iPhone and blended it. So what...

Sure, it's a waste of materials. But, it's not like all the iPhones are really going to be recycled. They'll all end up in the same place as the blended one eventually (at least a good portion of them).

I agree. Not to mention all the trash!!! Seriously, what is wrong with us? We just buy, buy, buy and throw it in the landfill a year later when the latest and greatest is released. And now we don't even use the product. We blend it! Brilliant. :-(

A majority percentage (I can't remember the numbers right now) of heavy metal toxicity in our water supply is coming from e-waste. And that's just for starters. Virtually no one recycles this stuff. We just dump it in a big hole in the ground or ship it to some country with lax laws so they can dump it. And it all ends up leaching into the ground water or floating in the ocean (can you say garbage patch???

And companies that do offer recycling (Apple, for example) have such boneheaded policies that they're more of a marketing gimmick than anything else. I can't bring my Mac to an Apple Store for recycling unless I buy a new computer. Earth friendly indeed! Sheesh. Every electronics manufacturer should be required by law to take their old/obsolete products and recycle them, regardless of whether someone buys a new product or not. Build it into the cost of the product, but don't just wash your hands of it the minute the product walks out the door on sale day.

Our obsession with stuff, not to mention the ridiculous amounts of packaging we use, makes the human future depicted in Wall E (just saw it last night...very good!) seem all too plausible.

Not to mention all the trash!!!

On the bright side, he already gave the trash digesting bacteria a headstart! Come to think of it, Blendtec should blend all e-waste so as to give decomposition an easier time.

If you are really worried about the third world countries, you should blame Apple and any other company who doesn't do their part. They are the ones actually using the resources to produce things. Once a product is on the shelf, the waste has been done. There's no going back. We should stop all manufacturing until the 3rd world is gone. Ironically, it's manufacturing that is helping the 3rd world get on its feet (and cheap, coal-based, heavily-polluting manufacturing at that), bringing wealth (and waste) to these impoverished countries. "But wait," you say, "There's a contradiction in all the causes I'm behind? Whatever will I do?"

Oh, and next time you're at a restaurant and don't eat all your food, you should feel bad about wasting it. Bag it up and mail it off. We all have to do our part!

Grrr - can't believe they did it before I got my one :)

I think you've hit the nail on the head. That's the real reason people are upset with this...we're still waiting for one and this guy wastes one.

But, you know what? We didn't have a chance of getting that specific iPhone. Only one guy in line behind him would have gotten that phone. Now, HE (or she) should be REALLY pissed! ;)

True. Relax, it's a piece of electronics. Go and hate in the thread about the guy who called 911 because he couldn't get his iPhone activated.

Exactly, and like everyone else is saying, he paid for the iPhone which gives him the right to do with as he pleases. People don't get upset when ifixit buys new iPhones just to take them apart to see what's in them.

Really,it's no big deal, the iPhone was paid for just as yours is. I could go smash mine under my car tires right now if I wanted to and that would be my right.

Jeez guys, it's not just "entertainment at any cost"..

He's doing a very good job of advertising the "Total Blender". :D http://www.willitblend.com/

A VERY cheap way of doing it, and a funny way too. "But think of the children!!" - A campaign like this costs a fraction of the advertising budget of most products. Who cares that an iphone (and a lot of other things) got blended in the process? It's the company's money and iphone.

I bet apple paid a lot more to advertise every product they've made.. Should they be spending it all on starving children too? If not, why not? Their campaigns are multi $million.. This cost a few $100 (plus the server fees since the videos are so popular, heh)

I'm starting to expect that anything posted on macrumors will have a significant, even a majority number of negative opinions about how much it sux0rs or whatever.

The only reason ANY of you should be "offended" by this is if he blended YOUR phone. Did he blend your phone? Have they quit making iPhones and you happened to be behind the guy that got the last one?

Feed the homeless? Really?

Anyways, since many of you are unaware that marketing is a crucial tool in business, and that marketing costs often outweigh research costs, have a look at the success of this blender. The guy has spent shockingly little money and now has national fame, and if I were ever pressed to purchase an industrial blender, only ONE name comes to mind.

Do you people get this lathered up everytime Ron Popeil cuts a penny or a shoe with his miracle knife on the teevee? Some homeless could have worn that shoe. That penny could have been used to help feed starving children.

I wonder what Apple paid to make and air those ads with the guys carrying the locked metal case into the secure room to unveil the new iPhone? Why wasn't that money donating to charity instead?

I regret that Apple did not sue the underdeveloped vandal and his idiotic company almost a year ago... That's a brazen spit in Apple's face, publicity stunt or not!..

If a ten-year old does anything like that, he receives a good spanking from the parents (he would from he, certainly, and a very proper one!). When an underdeveloped 60 year old does it on youtube, idiots rejoice.

Well, the Will it Blend? series works in getting the Blendtec brand name out. When people think of buying a blender, especially in younger generations, who do you think they'll think of first? Probably not Oster, or Whirlpool. They don't hear those names associated with blenders. So, for what it's worth, I think this guy's a genius.

It's the unfortunate side effect of MacRumors surge in popularity. But, on the bright side Arn was able to quit his job as a Kidney doctor. ;)

I think BlendTec's closest competitor is VitaMix. Most people aren't in the market for a $400+ blender though, no matter how many iphones it can pulverize. :)

aahahahahah

oh dear lord, you guys are weeping over a mobile phone.
Look at yourselves.

It wasn't my iPhone and his purchase probably had just a minor impact on the rise of APPL over the last couple days, so what's the problem again? And it was a great publicity stunt. Not sure if it helped his business or hurt it more by the video, but I thought it was pretty cool. Blend some more!!

Yes, let's see how strong that blender really is...

How many iPhone's can you fit in a 5 quart container? And, if you fill every nook and cranny and jam them in there as tight as you can (even if it takes a hammer to get them in there), will it blend?

I say cram it full. Let's see if it blends... Or, if it jams the motor.

It's a worthwhile experiment. Put that blender to the test. Sell me on it. I need a good blender.
