Same hang on "configuring installation"

Yeah the update hung at "configuring installation" with the progress bar at maybe 1-2%. Let it go for an hour and then gave up. Forced a hard shutdown, and things seem to be ok, but still at 10.5.5.

I have a 2007 MacBook Pro.

My coworker and I both have this same hang. We both own MBPs. I own a late 2007 model, he owns early 2008.

Out of curiosity, does everyone effected have macports installed? My shot in the dark idea is that macports changes a default path which halts the upgrade.

Here are software update logs until hang:

Hackintosh maybe??? Hmm. Most real Mac users don't care to stay with the old OS version, we generally look forward to an update.

unless there is a bug... which is often. so thats why i am waiting a couple days to update all my macs.

:)

Still no replies regarding the 4GB ram issue? My finger's on the button to buy if it's been fixed.

I'm using 4GB Crucial aftermarket -- was hanging occasionally before the firmware release last week. All seems ok now -- but who really knows for sure.

I have waited so long for this.
Life was unbearable without it.
This morning I tried starting the car and was so dispirited I couldn't even turn the key in the ignition...

This afternoon I am suddenly a millionaire, getting laid, and running a titanic corporation!

THANK YOU MAC OSX 10.5.6!!

LOL!!! That's all it did for you, man you didn't get the full version! :D

Hmm... my unibody 2008 AL macbook seems much snappier...but then again I restored it from a TM backup during setup, and I think some legacy settings etc. were slowing it down. Either the 10.5.6 update made it faster, or just the update process itself did, either way I'm happy!

The Search window zoom bug still here

Command-F,
Type text to search,
Get tons of files in the reach part of the search window,
Click in zoom (green) and the window do not grow / expand to fill the monitor height!

What a shame!

More than two years with 10.4 and suffering from tons of bugs and 10.5 is on the same rails…

It probably isn't faster due to the Combo. It is faster due to 10.5.6.

Actually, No! At first, I simply did the update via Software Update. Nothing changed.... my 2.16 Core 2 Duo (3GB RAM) MBP would still take something like 4 seconds just to display "About this Mac", you got the picture.

Then after applying 10.5.6 via Software Update, I installed 10.5.6 Combo.

I feel like I got a new Mac, really.

Finder: the move of more than 5 icons does not snap to grid!

In the 10.4 Finder (and in 10.5.5, 10.5.6 too), when you set the window snap to grid property and try to move more than 5 icons (files) in that very same window, the moved icons does not snap to grid.

Weird, most of the time, they goes crazy and are placed here or there... (hazard locations).

Hey Apple, when the 10.4 bugs will be removed ?

Yes, I have some others bugs on hold to cry against, but only a few at a time!

...Hey Apple, when the 10.4 bugs will be removed ?...

Probably around 10.6.3. Since Snow Leopard is going to be written in Cocoa, it should help solve many problems that have not been able to be fixed since the very beginning of OS X. At first, there will be a lot of bugs that Apple doesn't catch, but Mac OS X should be better than ever by 10.6.3.

does it fix the lousy overheating ati cards?

ok,
I recently went back to using my late 2006 iMac and had the graphical artifacts and then complete system lockups requiring a hard reset that plenty of other people had.

I have installed smcfancontrol and use that to prevent horizontal lines and other glitches but does this fix them?

if so great because apple support told me "at least $200" to replace the faulty video card which is just outrageous considering it is the apple os itself that caused the problems.

Installed it on my AL iMac 2Ghz. My Time Machine is now completely borked. It has been "preparing back up" for over an hour. I have rebooted twice and still get the same problem with Time Machine.

I think Apple screwed the pooch with this update.

Did you just let it go yet?

After any point update Time Machine requires a DeepNodeTraversal. This can take quite a while.

Let it run and see what happens.

Go to Time Machine prefs and re-select your back-up disk. It will ask you for your master password.

This step worked for me.

190MB on my PowerBook G4 1.5

Downloaded in about 3-4 minutes, initiate restart, installation took about 5 minutes, automatically restarted once and works fine for me.

Nothing to report........yet.!!!!!

installed without a hitch.

haven't actually experienced any real improvement yet. maybe i'm just not noticing it.

guess this will be the last update before 10.6 is released. won't be getting it until it becomes 10.2 when most of the serious bugs are fixed ;)

Time Machine Preparing for Disk

I just turned time machine off then back on in system preferences and it started backing up immediately
