I work for Microsoft and use an iPhone. No big deal.

I think this whole Microsoft vs. Apple fight is mostly sensationalism at it's finest. Truth is, we're actually all pretty good friends. Heck, we even get the Apple employee discount on Apple products.

I run Windows 7 and I run OS X, depends on what I'm doing. I don't really give it much though to be honest.

The decision to only allow us to expense Windows Mobile phones is cost cutting. The company gets a discount on WinMo phones from the providers. That discount isn't extended to the other products they offer. So yes, by expensing a Windows Mobile handset you are saving the company money. I would assume the same for Apple and Google. This excludes allowances for data and voice plans. (We can shell out for the iPhone and still expense voice and data)

I'm not gonna lie though, I'm looking forward to WP7S. The ability to play xbox live games on your console and have your save files and game state transfer over to the phone or Windows OS is a neat deal.

Thanks for your post. Very interesting. I think you may have hurt some Apple fan's feelings. A MS Employee getting a Apple Employee discount. Sacrilege!:D

Probably a fraction of the percentage of Apple employees who
use Windows.

As an ex Apple employee, there are very few Apple employees who use Windows OS systems - and quite frankly why would they? (unless they are used for testing/development purposes). As many have pointed out, it's amusing that advertising agency behind the last Windows commercial ad campaign use OS X .

This is a complete non issue.

Many Apple users have a Xbox 360, a MS product and pay for Xbox LIVE when they have the option not to do so and go with a PS3. I am sure this includes many Apple employees and their familys.

I am sure many ipod users have ditched the apple buds and have gone with Sony headphones.

I am sure not all Apple employees chose to have a Apple TV in their house but instead use some other solutions.

A lot of Apple users also use Dell monitors and swear by it, instead of buying Apple displays. Does that mean Dell is better than Apple?

You have to remember that these are employees after all. They're humans. Just because they work for someone doesn't mean they're willing to die for the company.

Same with Apple employees, users etc.

The reverse is just as true - if WP7S was from Apple.. people like you would be all over the MR forums drooling over its "innovative and ground-breaking UI". Just look at iPad forums (and iPad concept isn't exactly on the cutting edge of innovation!)

You're right, the time will tell whether WP7S will be a true success.. But for now, let's just agree that Microsoft has put out a very interesting modern mobile OS.. which, if nothing else, will make other key players in this space (namely Apple and Google) work even harder to compete.. and hopefully not just compete by filing lawsuits.

So... let's hear what other device resembles the iPad in any material way.

Yes?

While you're at it, go find out how many lawsuits MS has filed over patents and copyright vs Apple (hint: it's more than an order of magnitude more, even though Apple has been around as a serious commercial concern longer--MS was incorporated a few months earlier, but didn't have any meaningful stature until 4-5 years after the Apple ][ ).

nothing surprising there. Even them know whats the best

Of course all we know is 10% use an iphone. What about the rest? Suppose 30% use a nexus. are you still willing to say "even them know what's the best" with such contempt?

Honestly, macrumors is making a big issue out of nothing.

Let's do a quick poll here.

How many here own a Xbox 360?
How many here own a Dell monitor?

I wouldn't be surprised if both were around 10% as well.

Well, there is a number of them - some shipping now or will ship before iPad. Although I am sure you will dispute the "material way" part.

Anyway, the point was that iPad is based on 3-year old iPhoneOS scaled up for larger screen, with minimal UI changes or improvements. Yet it's being hailed as "amazing and revolutionary". But we digress.

'10% of Microsoft Employees Using iPhones' eh?

Let's see... the arm and hand to hold it, the brain, eyes and ears to see and listen to it, the lungs, throat, vocal chords, mouth and lips to speak into it....

Yeah, ok, that sounds like it could be about 10% of anyone using an iPhone. The other 90% is unnecessary for iPhone usage. Until someone makes a Twister app for the iPhone maybe.

apple should really save their money and not ship their devices with those earphones. 1/18th of a cent adds up.

But white ear buds are an essential part of the kit for posing at
Starbucks.

Horrors if you show that you care about the sound of the music and
use earphones that aren't tacky white plastic.

Much like yourself.

This is complete non-news. It would be a better idea to talk about how Apple reacts to employees that don't conform to the world of "different".
