this just in, employee's don't care. just because you work for a company doesn't mean you have to agree with everything they do 100% and only buy their products. For a mac based site, i am amazed at the amount of flame bate that goes around. If it weren't for windows, we would only hear about the iphone and the ipad on this site.

Tell the posers at Starbucks to stop! ;)

Maybe it's different on Middle Earth, but here in the Bay Area you
can't go into a Starbucks without seeing them.

Which is why I go to Peet's instead.

Try going to none. Take's a while to get the drugs out, but then life is better.

Apple is still in the process of switching over the mobile Point of Sale units in their stores from Windows Mobile devices to iPod Touch base devices.

Lethal

I don't recall see anything but the ipod touch handhelds for a couple of years now in the 10-15 apple stores I have stopped in around the world.

Thinking about how much market share can be saved, it only humiliates Microsoft itself to prohibit its own employees from using iphone... Why don't they ban blackberrys inside the company too???? Aren't they at least as popular as iphones, and much better than windows phones????? By acting in this stupid way, Microsoft is just telling its own thoughts: iphone is such a bright rising star, it makes windows phone look like junk, and I hate apple to the bones. It sounds like you are mad, Microsoft.

Sadly, I have to agree.

There are many directions Apple has taken with the iPhone that I don't like.

No multi-tasking.

Same closed app ecosystem.

I already own an iPhone, Microsoft sure as hell isn't going to get me to switch by following the same exact model. :(

The reason you see people with their iPhones out in Starbucks is fairly simple and has nothing at all to do with being posers.

They get free wi-fi in Starbucks. The other reason is that the iPhone is a useful mobile device. The reason you don't see people using other phones as much is not humility, it is the terrible mobile experience their device provides. People like their iPhones because they work, and work well.

Off topic

off topic: Bill Gates ban his children from getting any apple product (including iPod touch and iPhones), it must be tuff for them lol.

That is just cruel and mean spirited.

"Ahhhh.. come on Dad! You guys just don't make anything as good."

"You're Grounded......for life!"

Oh c'mon now! That's just plain reasonable! Stop using logic! It's... it's... too logical! ;)

You couldn't even be bothered to read the snippet of the article before making an inane post, huh? Microsoft doesn't prohibit its employees from using the iphone. Some of them try to hide their iphones, but that doesn't mean that they're banned from owning them. Any apple employee would do the same.

Then why will they hide their iphones, mad guy?

My thoughts exactly. At a glance it's refreshing to know iPhones are not barred - I might mention it to our own IT dept, if Microsoft allow iPhones why can't we?

Problem is that once you turn on ActiveSync, which is necessary for OWA (Outlook Web Access) you can't stop the iPhones. Unless, of course, you wanted to pay someone to sit on the AS server all day and police them. Apple is using the inherent insecurity of AS against itself...

Hello everybody, my name is LagunaSol.

I love to defend Apple without fail. Even what it involves (frequent) hypocrisy between threads. And when somebody (frequently) tears my entire (lousy) argument to shreds, I ignore them and pretend like it never happened. I don't realize that behind the ignore list, im the laughing stock of a forum.

That being said, this is a non issue. Of course they use the iphone, it's a good phone. The actual number is probably higher than 10%.

My buddy who works at Apple showed up to a meeting with his HTC Droid Eris on the table. Later in the day he said he was called in for a discussion with his superior behind closed doors.

He no longer takes his phone to work.

Why do they have to resort to using Starbucks WiFi? Is their 3g signal s**t or something? :p

You're quite right - while he's ranted, ad nauseum, about posers at Starbucks, these obvious justifications seem to have never occurred to him.

I wish you would stop with this Starbucks stereotype BS.

He's just following the script.

His scripts have been in perpetual 're-runs' for the past three years.

Its Ballmer that wont let his children use other products, not BG.

Apparently, BG is of the same mindset, according to Melinda:

Gates of Heaven

“There are very few things that are on the banned list in our household,” Gates tells me.
“But iPods and iPhones are two things we don’t get for our kids.” Harsh, perhaps, but understandable.
After all, it’s hard to walk around tethered to merchandise made by your father’s most famous competitor.
Still, Gates acknowledges the inevitable lure of forbidden fruit. “Every now and then I look at my friends and say,
‘Ooh, I wouldn’t mind having that iPhone."

Are you sure they were using the Touches as POS units because the functionality to interface w/peripherals such as mag strip readers and barcode scanners wasn't there until iPhone OS 3.0 (released June/09) and Touch-based POS units weren't rolled out until late last year.

Article from Feb. 2010
While Apple Inc. was making news last November with the roll-out of a high-tech iPod touch point-of-sale (POS) system at its 277 retail stores, the company that actually designed and built the sleek device was content to lay low and not take any of the credit.

So what?

Microsoft employees can buy whatever phones they like.

I expect SonyEricsson employees use Nokia phones, and vice versa.

Slow news day - another filler story to get in the advertising $$$

Nobody stated they can't buy whatever phones they like; in fact, that's the point of the story. 10% like phones from their biggest competitor. I too expect SonyEricsson employees to use Nokia phones; I'm guessing that would get a kick out of some of the regulars at SonyEricssonrumors.com ;)

I notice you're a 68040. I'm guessing you haven't contributed, since you'd likely have taken a title to let everybody know. I doubt you'd be around if Arn negated to advertise, thus moving to a subscription model. Have a think about that before you criticise stories that secure revenue. Or else contribute, and thus justify the height of your horse.

Is this really news or just gloating rights?

This isn't news at all and MacRumors has lost much of its appeal in the past couple of years.

This is page2 at best! Idle chat, not news.

It's resulted in me becoming little more than a troll around here.

I love my Mac and visit MacRumors, but I don't have an iPhone. Some iPhone news is worthy, of course.

This is not even close to it.

Time you got off your high horse, newb. Leave him alone.

Without us, Arn wouldn't have a site. Well, he would but it'd be pointless.

Stories that secure revenue? Please. How does this secure revenue? I think we need to pay per month if this is going to become more and more regular. Maybe the clientele of the site will improve if we all have to pay ;)

What kind of retard was the "employee source"?

If you're in a meeting with the CEO of Microsoft, you don't answer your phone NO MATTER what phone it is. Hell, you prolly wanna keep it off.

I work in a tiny office company, and even I would have major balls if I answered my phone while being in a meeting with the boss.

I think his yearly meeting with Ballmer is more like his phone rang once while passing ballmer in the hallway, and he ran scared to the toilet.
