Why not a 14” in the same dimensions, Apple ?

Because it's not physically possible.

There's this myth the 16-inch display fits into the 15-inch chassis. It doesn't. The 16-inch chassis is bigger in every dimension.

The horizontal bezels have been decreased from 0.33" to 0.25" but there's still plenty left. Vertical bezels are virtually the same.

Shouldn't 2020 be the year of a "complete" redesign?
What is a "complete" redesign? The changes in 16" MacBook Pro are all anyone ever wanted. Face ID would be nice, but other than that what needs to change for the sake of change?

I'd like a 13" macbook pro form factor with a 14" screen, real Escape key, and a 32GB option, but doesn't sound like that's coming anytime soon from this Phil Schiller interview:

That is how they always react/answer. They aren't going to give that info.

However the 16" is still smaller than the 2015 15". So the new 14" could be smaller than the 2015 13".

So the 14" will likely have the same dimensions as the original retina MBP 13". No problem for me.

A 13 inch MacBook Pro would be the _perfect_ size for me. The 16 inch MacBook Pro looks freakin awesome, but it’s just too big for what I would need. I don’t have a MacBook right now, but I am looking at adding one within the next six months, so hopefully we see more rumors on the 13” Pro variant.

13", 15", 16" make sense.

14" is simply too big for many on-the-go professionals.

A redesign for the sake of a redesign?
13, 15, and 16 is not gonna happen.

12, 14, and 16 could, but I would be mildly surprised if 12" happened this year. And not sure how Pro it would be...

Problem for many consumers in 2019 who are familiar with other 13" competitive products on the market. Hence, no 14" MacBook Pro from Apple.

Tell that to Kuo. No one credible has predicted 14".

Having to re-engineer the whole lineup for the keyboard would be a good opportunity to rationalise the lineup:

13" MBA - largely as-is
15" MBA - innards of the current 15W (13") MBP

14" MBP - beefed up a bit with a dGPU, retains 28W CPU and offers the 6 core version!
16" MBP - already in place

The "K" key on my 2017 became flaky today. Argh. I'd read about all the problems, but had never had it myself. I've hated this keyboard since I got it (company bought it for me), so can't wait for the new version. Then I just need to get my company to buy one for me. :)

Apple has a new patent for a "multifunction binary state vertically displaceable input pad". It is rumored the new 13.3/14 MBP will replace the touchbar with a row of these innovations and call it Apple Press.

Same old iGPU though, so .. Navi-GPU would be nice. My guess is we'll see 6 core, 32 GB, with no Navi.

If they increase to 6 cores and 32 GB, I'm buying day one.
If not, I don't know... I really don't like 15-16" size laptops.

If they offer the new keyboard on a new 14 inch form factor, better radeon Navi graphics, and Wifi6, plus 32 GB of RAM, I might sign up.....
Unfortunately no Navi, it would be too big a hit to the battery life.

To all the people whining about the lack of WiFi 6 in Apple's 16" MBP: do you have a wireless router at your disposal which supports WiFi 6? If not, stop whining. If you do, good on ya.

hope they also make it 14" and add a physical escape key.
and i hope my air holds out long enough)

And? Have you broken down and bought a pair of AirPod Pros yet? :)

I think we'll see similar updates to what the 16" received. The bezels on the 13" are large, and a 14" display makes sense along with the magic keyboard, improved speakers and mics, and updated thermal design.

Even if it increases the weight/thickness slightly, this is a "Pro" machine and I like the direction Apple is taking in that regard.
I can definitely see it receiving some of the same upgrades, but not 100% sure about updated thermals and battery. Apple may, but it’s not as necessary since the 13” doesn’t suffer from throttling as much as the 15” and the 13” has a bigger emphasis on lightness/portability. At one point, Apple even considered the 13” mbp the upgrade path for mba users. Since then, a new mba has been released, but it’s not clear if and to what degree Apple has changed their view of the 13” mbp as a more pro machine, as a result.

New (old)-scissor keyboard, better base storage, improved cooling and finally improved VGA starting from MacBook Air. Perhaps only that 5300MPro 4GB. Anything to get rid of that hopeless piece of silicone Intel graphics is.

And... just curious how many years it'll take for MBP to get card reader? Let alone MBA.

No surprise Apple is keeping the 13". Kuo's also predicting the return of 15" with scissor.

It makes the MacBook Pro lineup more complete.
Kuo obviously failed to predict the 15" would be discontinued and replaced by the 16". The probability of Apple bringing back a discontinued product only a year after it was discontinued is pretty much zero.

Sometimes Kuo and other "analysts" get things wrong. Give it up.

Ugh.... really? That's a bit shortsighted.

This machines will last over 3 years. In 6 months time there will be a lot of Wifi 6 routers out there, in which time, a Wifi 6 router would be worth buying. If only the laptop supported it...

Just because someone doesn't have a Wifi 6 router today, doesn't mean they won't in a few months time.

He predicted the 15-inch butterfly would be discontinued and would get a scissor refresh in 2020.

Do people really expect Apple to force consumers to choose between a 13" and 16" for the next few years? We're obviously not going to see a 14" any time soon.
