13" Macbook Pro Isn't A Pro

Is the 13" Macbook Pro a real Pro?

So I was in the Apple Store again yesterday and whilst looking around the different versions of the notebooks it suddenly struck me that, with all things considered, the 13" Macbook Pro isn't really a 'Pro'. It doesn't look or feel very Pro-like especially when you consider the lower spec, tiny screen size, and larger bezel. It really strikes home when you see all the 13", 15", and 17" laid out side-by-side on display. I really think by upgrading the 13" name to 'Macbook Pro' Apple are doing a grave injustice to all the customers who could afford and purchased the real Pros'.

Does anyone else feel the same?

In viewing your constant negative comments regarding the 13 inch model my guess is your 15 was purchased by daddy and you have a poster of sponge Bob on your wall in your parents bedroom.

looks like this little 13" pro bashing thread has back fired on Shambo,

close to 2x as many people agree that it is of pro standard than those who don't.

It's just his opinion, albeit misguided.
The PRO is just a name. I'm not even sure a computer is any more "PRO" just because of it's moniker.

1/3 of all respondents say it's not a 'pro' which is quite conclusive if you ask me. And as Jessica said it's just my opinion... oh and that of one third of all voters.

I just don't get why it matters. I mean, if some random dude on the net says you can't afford something so clearly that's why you had to get the "base" model then who cares? I know someone who bought the base model and does very well for themselves ... and probably has more than many people around this thread do. I don't think the base model is for "poor folk" or anything even close. Again, just opinions I believe.

your right. I dont care what the name is I buy what suits my needs.

I have a 15" myself. but just because i like a bigger screen. however, I get pissed when he attacks others about their choice for a 13" and looks down his nose as if they are less of a mac user.

I am kinda standing up for the little guy.

but you are right, in the grand scheme of it all, NONE OF THIS MATTERS

All of the MacBook Pros are only considered pros because they are labled that way. If they didn't say pro on any of them and Apple just called them MacBooks, would they be a Pro?

This is like I'm better than that person because I drive a Cadilac and he's driving a Cobalt.

I just got a 13" MacBook Pro yesterday (top model), and I think this is a ridiculous discussion. It's a perfectly capable computer, with IDENTICAL specifications to the lower-end 15". It's a MacBook Pro, whether you believe it or not. If it's not, then the lower 15" isn't either.

Some people just like to beat their chests and wave around their big stick, justifying their purchases by saying that others are inferior...

I also like 15" for it's large screen but a 13" is PERFECTLY FINE in every way!:D People shouldn't be attacked for buying a 13", it doesn't mean they're poor, some people don't NEED a big laptop!:)

Depends what Pro work you do.

Spreadsheets and light graphical work when connected to an external monitor, easy transport to and from work, and good for evening use Surfing and emails. The 13" is ideal.

Much more, and why are you using a laptop really?

I hate to ask... what do you think of the PowerBook 12", perhaps it should of been a iBook? Cause that's what you're saying. The PB12 was marketed as a pro-machine but like it's biger bother (MBP13) it had a tiny screen, super lower resolution, slightly lower specs compared to it's other models and also a larger bezel and yet it's still sort after system.

Personally.... I don't care what the badge on the machine says. Anyone using a 'pro' machine doesn't make the user any more professional than the last person, unless they're making money 'hand over fist' whilst operating it, whatever it maybe. Does it make sense?

I've only read a few of the replies but surely they put "Pro" on to show it was their higher-end laptop?

iBook < PowerBook
MacBook < MacBook Pro.

The easiest way to keep Mac in the name (with the switch to Intel). We could argue the specs but as it stands the MacBook is still the white plastic design a la iBook, and the MBP is aluminium a la PowerBook. It's just a name people.

So why was the original 13" uMP not a 'Pro' until earlier this year? Base 13" was never a pro then and should never have been relabelled. Simply causes confusion. IMHO

You mean 13"uMB? And it was given FW, SD slot, a better display and EVERYTHING a 15"MBP has with a smaller screen in June.

I think you should be relabeled as BANNED. Troll that you are.

I agree, a slightly confusing move...but to be honest, they're just notebook computers. Does it really matter? :)

Confusion for who? And if they weren't pros what would you complain about? It seems a ton of facts support that it's a machine that can handle "pro" tasks. I mean isn't that the point?

Who ever said that? It's only a freakin' name for Pete's sake.

I said that. You dont have to agree with me. I'm just saying, a $1600 laptop shouldnt have a crappy ass 9400M in it. Sure, it is just a name, but all I am saying is that any Pro machine with a Pro tag better have a discrete GPU in it.

It seems to me that anyone who is anti-13" pro isn't allowed to have an opinion yet the pro-13" pros are. Come on guys.
