what ****ed up person would build a 5200 rpm disk in such a piece of hardware... oh yes apple that is :apple:

it's a laptop - battery life and heat are much more critical.. get an ssd if you want speed or buy a 7200 aftermarket..

i highly doubt they'd put the store offline for that long considering not everyone wants a new MBP and there r other stuff that wants to be purchased right now

Agreed.

That's a long time to keep the entire Apple ecommerce operation offline.

They do sell other things.

Okay, I'm posting a comparison of the 3 GPU's:

330M :

48 Unified Cores (or SPU's) @ 575 Mhz
1265 Mhz Shader clock
128 bit bus w/ GDDR3

Radeon 6490 (to appear in 15" model):
160 Unified Cores (or SPU's) @ 700-800 Mhz :D
700-800 Mhz Shader Clock (this is per core, so relax)
64-bit bus w/ GDDR5

Hmm... damn. those graphics are just about the same :(

Now, the Radeon 6750 (supposedly in the 17" Model - may appear in High end 15")

480 Unified Cores (or SPU's) @ 600Mhz!!! :D (again, per core, relax)
600 Mhz Shader clock... meh... (per core, relax)
128 bit bus w/GDDR 5

Seems like the new GPU's - especially the 6750 are a pretty big improvement :) And I'm sure that real-life performance will be much better :D

I thought they needed to wait for Intel's own announcement...

Apple is a much bigger player in my opinion. I could see something like this:

"As you may have seen earlier today, the earliest adopter of LightPeak (Thunderbolt) technology is Apple as they have updated their MBP lines with the technology earlier this morning."

So tired of all the whining about resolution. I prefer to use my computer without binoculars.

No I got it, I wasn't the jerk-off that made the post with all the elipses!!! GD I'm ready to buy my new Mac!! Argghhhhh.

Oops, sorry! My bad. This thread is moving way too fast to fully keep up.

I'm going to wait til Monday, partly because I want to hear the feedback on the new models (the last time I took an active interest in graphics cards they ran over AGP), and partly because I'm broke til then. :)

The current rumours sound great. Does anyone know whether Apple typically offers options on its GPU? And at what sort of price?

yeah i doubt they will talk about mbps in depth, just a little. the majority will be regarding LP/TBolt

1. 1440x900 res. screen by default - Seriously needs a bump.
2. 256MB dedicated graphics memory - Are you serious?
3. 5400RPM HDD - 7200RPM should've been there but it'd make more noise. So, okay.

256MB is on the entry level MBP. There will be more on the higher models.

No worries, I don't recall a time that GPU's were BTO options in MBP's, but my memory isn't what it used to be. Also, I figure if I pick it up at Best Buy then I can take advantage of their return policy if any serious news crops up by monday...or I can be a guinea pig for later adopters like yourself :D

I'm pretty sure it was a typo on 9to5's part as it's pretty much been confirmed that all 15s will have Quads.

If that's they case then they will both probably use the i7-2720QM

As far as I know that is the only 2.2GHz quad-core Sandy Bridge mobile processor (6MB cache, 3.3GHz max turbo)

Can not wait to buy, as soon as store goes up, just need to deiced stock 17 to replace mine or CTO 15. Decisions, decisions a bit hard to work out with no other info available. Can not believe it quad core in the size should be amazing.

Avaliabilty

Anyone have any idea if I'll be able to pick up a new mbp this morning when my local bestbuy opens at 10am est.?

I thought they needed to wait for Intel's own announcement...

Makes sense, but that is not until 10am PT (1pm ET). Five more hours!!!

By the time 1pm ET rolls around, we'll lose most of our members who will collapse from lack of sleep since they stayed up dreaming about every possible MBP possible configuration, while others will be running around their neighborhoods naked high on Mountain Dew. Neither will be a pretty sight.
