I wonder if there will be another nicely-produced Apple video showcasing the new updates. Doubt it though, since it's not a redesign or anything.

Okay, I'm posting a comparison of the 3 GPU's:

330M :

48 Unified Cores (or SPU's) @ 575 Mhz
1265 Mhz Shader clock
128 bit bus w/ GDDR3

Radeon 6490 (to appear in 15" model):
160 Unified Cores (or SPU's) @ 700-800 Mhz :D
700-800 Mhz Shader Clock (this is per core, so relax)
64-bit bus w/ GDDR5

Hmm... damn. those graphics are just about the same :(

no.. the 330m is much better than the 6490 and the 330m wasn't even that great! lol if anyone wants to game, you're better off with a dual core i7 + 330m than the quad + 6490, that or go toward the 17" which is decent at least.

Even with GDDR5, 64bit bus ugh...

re-evaluating my options now.

Quad Cores is nice, but its still not a super fast desktop CPU just because of that.
For example Core2Quad Desktop CPU from 2008 with 3Ghz is still alot faster than the MBP cpus.

About to get my first mac!

So my fiance has converted me from a PC user to drooling over the MBPs. Then I see new ones are on the verge, awesome! But I'm left being a little uninformed.

I'm not a power user, but I do a little bit of light graphic design, photoshop, that kind of thing. I only want a 13" for portability (and price) but I'm disappointed that the quads aren't going to be in the 13". Think that might be an option? Or considering my light - moderate usage, would quad be overkill for me anway?

Thanks so much!

The HD6490 on 15" is a more powerful gpu than the old M330GT (256GFlops/s VS 183GFlops/s), and it should require less power, about 15-20W VS 26W of the 330GT.

Overkill, yes. Get C2D. :p

If the 13" has a BTO 1440x900 HR AG screen I may consider downgrading from my 15".

Then I would just have to figure out how to sell a near $2000 computer on craigslist...

I am completely dumbfounded that Apple didn't bump the resolutions on the MBP line to be in line with the Air. I seriously might not purchase just because of this.

Why do you doubt that best buy would have them? They are the ones that usually leak the pics of the new releases.

When the Arrandales came out, they were only online at first. Then 3 days later stores had them and 2 days after that BB got them. Just going by past history with the Arrandales.

You'll be in great shape with the 13" if those are your goals. My wife does a lot of graphics design work (Photoshop/Illustrator etc) on her 13" MacBook Air and has never had a single complaint, and the processor on it isn't nearly as good as the 13" MBP.
