how are thermals for you? i hate my 15pro for constant overheating. does the base 17 run cooler under ios26?
Well, I popped down to my local Apple Store as I have the day off and wanted to see how much it would cost to get the screen fixed and asked them how much I could get for a trade in - they went through the diagnosis thing they do and my trade in value is actually £435 making the cost of a new Air "only" £565.Im considering it: my 15 Pro has a scratch on the front glass, it's only noticeable in certain light conditions but it does annoy me when I do notice it. I don't use a lot of the Pro features, the reason I got it actually was that it was the most pocketable size when I bought it (coming from 13 Mini) but I still find it difficult to use with one hand.
It's going to cost £350 to get the screen fixed but can get around £150 if I sell it to Music Magpie or a similar site despite the screen issue (if I get the screen fixed and trade it in via Apple would only get around £75 off a new device once the cost of the new screen is factored in).
So im left considering either: getting the regular 17 now it comes with ProMotion and 120 hz which would cost round £650; getting the 17 Air for around £850 but will wait for the reviews to come in, I figure that if Im using the Pro mainly with two hands anyway that the extra size shouldn't be an issue and I *do* like the look of it, will have to see how it feels in the hand; fixing the screen and making do with what I already have. I don't use a case on my phone (rightly or wrongly).
Decisions, decisions!
Consider a battery replacement for the 15 Pro? $99. Also interested in your thoughts about the 17 vs 15 Pro.Just out of dumb luck, I opened up the Apple Store app and saw the regular 17 in the configuration I wanted was available, so I reserved it. I picked it up, but haven't set it up yet. A part of me wants to return it, because my 15 Pro is okay and the white titanium is still a stunner. Plus I have so many cases for 15 Pro. However the battery is at 83% and drops ~12-15% per hour, and that's while it's on wi-fi. Even when it's not doing anything the battery drops by 5%. I'm not even a heavy user. I mainly listen to either the Music app which has my downloaded music, the Podcast app, or YouTube music to listen to 1-2 albums. And the phone does get warm to the point where sometimes I do have to shut it down so it could cool off. And I'm also thinking about trade in value as well because I know once we hit the end of the year the value will drop. I'll set the phone up tomorrow at work (better wi-fi), and use it for a week and then make my final decision.

Yeah I was in the Apple Store a few days ago. Nothing screams "I'm worth $800!" from my 15 PM. We got my wife's 15 PM battery replaced and it's like a new phone.Ordered a Gold Air 512, loved its size an weight, its speed.
Returned it today and went back to my 15PM, it just wasn't enough of an upgrade to justify the price.
It's basically the same Phone, just a tad bigger and heavier, with better cameras and speakers.
Will definitely look at the Air 2 and/or 3.
can you say anything about the speakers? i love the ones on my 15pro and i hope the 17s are as good?15Pro to 17base. Love the slight weight reduction .. the jury's still out on IOS 26, but spec-wise it's a solid upgrade in my book. As a security person, I like the new memory security architecture in the 17s, too.
I'm pleased that the 17base has not become an oven or cooktop even once since launch day, and I've definitely been putting it through its paces. So that right there is a huge plus for me!
I agreed, I been telling friends and family when they asked what I thought about the Air, and I told them it's just the form factor that's different, everything else feels just like my 15PM but downgrade on the camera and speakers.Ordered a Gold Air 512, loved its size an weight, its speed.

...you do not have to shut it down. These electronic components can withstand the heat just fine and the device reduces heat on its own by throttling components like the SoC and the display (lower brightness). And the phone does get warm to the point where sometimes I do have to shut it down so it could cool off.
It is unlikely to drop below 80% until long after you've gotten rid of it. You can always pay the battery replacement fee and then you don't have to suffer another year or 3 with the bad battery. At around 500 charge cycles the battery life will have declined enough to warrant the replacement. It's cheaper than a new 17.I have Apple Care so, I have to wait for it to drop below 80%.
That indicates either bad cellular reception or a faulty iPhone logic board. It can also be a combination of summer heat, keeping the iPhone in a case, and bad reception on top of that. Using Safari doesn't generate heat unless the cellular modem is in overdrive to keep the connection up. If you aren't on 5G yet and there is coverage then that's another possible reason for this. Switching to a carrier that uses a different cellular network can help as well if that were to improve reception. If I did any kind of searching online while on cellular, the phone got almost too hot to touch.
Sure you get the best trade-in the sooner you do it. On the other hand if you kept the 15 Pro and replaced the battery in the next few months you could get another 2 years out of it. The Air's battery life will be reduced considerably in 2 years as well so you'd be looking at a 2 year replacement schedule. It's not all that expensive until you consider that the Air isn't a clear upgrade as the camera is much more limited. Well, the main one anyways, the front camera is better on the Air.I figure I'll get the best amount on trade in now, the battery is down to 96% and decreasing percentage quite rapidly
Keep in mind that this is an offer likely restricted to another 3 years on one of the most expensive unlimited plans.ound that Verizon was doing an $1100 credit for me to upgrade from my 15PM to a 17PM ... meaning I had to only pay $99 (plus a $40 fee so total of $149 incl tax).
We have wife and I and our adult kids on the plan together - so it is no change in that regard, but you are correct that since the $1100 is a *credit* that it involves either staying or paying it back to exit early.Keep in mind that this is an offer likely restricted to another 3 years on one of the most expensive unlimited plans.
In my case where my 15PM gets hot while on cellular, I am and was on 5G in an area with strong coverage (Vegas), and although it was warm in the 80’s and low 90’s, I was mostly inside. I’ve also been case-free since new. The phone has always gotten hot when outside and I’ve not had any real connectivity issues, though it could be some issue with the modem. I know a new Air won’t resolve all the issues, but it should minimize this overheating....you do not have to shut it down. These electronic components can withstand the heat just fine and the device reduces heat on its own by throttling components like the SoC and the display (lower brightness).

The normal size Pro is the perfect option! Use iPad at home if you crave a larger display🤪Hello everyone!
I'm torn between upgrading to the 17 Pro / Max series.
Since I've had the 15 Pro Max, I've often found it too bulky and too big when I'm on the go. When I'm surfing the web at home or on the couch, I think the size is just right. What has been your experience switching to the 17 Pro? Do you miss the size of the 15 Pro Max? Or is the jump to the 17 Pro Max not noticeable in terms of feel and size, and are you happy with the screen?
For me the camera is good enough for my needs so that's not really a limitation for me.Sure you get the best trade-in the sooner you do it. I upgraded from the 15PM to the 17PM and immediately was used to the increased screen difference. The 17PM feels a little bit heavier than the 15PM caseless but it doesn’t bother me in the least bit. It doesn’t get hot like the 15PM and the battery life has been awesome. I do not miss the size of the 15PM and it has not been noticeable at all. I am very happy with my upgrade and do not regret it one bit.Hello everyone!

Still waiting for my 17PM, has anyone noticed a difference with pages/apps reloading due to the new increased 4GB of ram vs what we had in the 15PM?
