I'm curious if anyone else is in my boat. My 15PM has 83% battery health, not great, not terrible state. I chose max to replace Kindle and other eBook readers I had. That might have placed some part in the battery.

I am only tempted to upgrade because I would end up needing to replace the battery soon anyway. Otherwise I'm quite happy with everything else.

what are people unable to think for themselves?

pretty simple really its a cost vs value vs benefit thing.

I have a 15PM, its at 91% battery, I would only really ever be interested in a PM device, so, I either trade in and get the 17pm (or more likely give my phone to my wife/daughter and have to pay the full cost of the 17PM), or I can keep my 15pm (maybe do a battery at some point if I need to) and then wait until next year, which I think will have more innovation attached to the devices in 2026.

easy decision.

of course if you are rich etc you can pretty much buy anything any time.

Upgrading from 15 PM 512GB to 17PM 1TB Blue. My 15 screen dims when it gets warm. I use if for navigation on my motorcycle and its unacceptable to have a dim screen. I pick up my iPhone 17 ProMax on Friday. I used the AppleStore App to get through instantly at 7AM Central time.

I’ve gotten the Pro iPhone since the Pro was introduced because I value the extra camera quality and features (not so much for video). I skipped the 16 Pro because I wasn’t sold on the Camera Control being all that useful compared to my 15 Pro. The iPhone 17 non-Pro is a tempting upgrade for a few reasons:
+ bigger screen, lighter weight, way more battery life
But compared to the 17 Pro, it’s missing:
- 4x/8x zoom, ProRAW/ProRes, LiDAR sensor
No black or space gray for the 17 Pro is a factor given how much of camera plateau is now visible even with a case. $300 price difference for the 512GB models is also significant (that buys a case and AirPods Pro 3).
Settled on the 17 Pro Silver. Trade-in offers on the Pro are too tempting. AT&T has Pro and non-Pro for the same price after trade-in ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

quoting R Kelly: My mind telling me no, but my body telling me yes LOL. I preordered a blue 17 pro. Downsized from 15 PM, hope I won’t regret the decision on a smaller phone.

I most likely going to upgrade...but I usually wait until late early November.

I like having a few weeks of hearing about real world usage, issues, etc. Plus its easier to just walk into a store a grab one at that point.
I would like to do that but I worry trade-in values will drop.

15PM blue titanium since launch day. Upgrading to the 17PM blue. My phone gets pretty hot so hopefully the vapor chamber helps, plus the larger battery and faster charging are attractive.

I upgraded. The cameras on 17 pro are much better. Plus I get more battery life which is accentuated by the fact my current battery is at 81%

I suspect you'll be disappointed with the iPhone 17PM cooling. Under the sun, the phone gets heat from the battery that's running the display at max brightness, and gets heat also from the sun. In other words, expect the display to dim too unless the overheating protection can be disabled.

Exactly the same here: 15PM to 17PM. My phone too often throttles screen brightness when overheating. Also looking forward to the better cameras, anti-reflective screen, and slightly larger screen size.

Battery life doesn’t really affect me as I’m one of the odd ones that only charge to 80% and charge it more often as to not let it dip anywhere near 20%.

Ehhh, it is our upgrade cycle time, so 17PM for me and the wife. Our 15PMs will be passed to the kids and their 13PMs will be traded in. We practice phone "trickle down" in this household. :)
The fold might be interesting next year, but my gut tells me that is a phone you want the second generation, not the beta release that will be the first year device.

Idk man, the 15pro was worse than the 13pro ever was from day one for me…

Regular 15p here… 87% BH but it feels way worse.

Agreed. Mine is at 89% (after only a year) but the battery life is terrible. I'm regularly below 50% by the afternoon.

Agree strongly with all of you. The 15 Pro was barely an upgrade from my 13 mini as far as battery life is concerned. At 88% battery health, I can barely get 3.5-4 hours screen-on-time most days.

I decided to give the Air a try as the compromises seem worth it to me for the lower weight and titanium over aluminum. I use my phone naked and while I don't drop it a lot, the titanium of the 15 Pro has held up MUCH better than any aluminum model I've owned.

I'm at 88% battery health on the iPhone 15 Pro. Battery life used to suffice, barely notice it. But I think the battery health is way worse than the 88% it says it is because the battery life is awful now, always have to charge during the day.
