Short story: I got the iPhone 15 Pro on launch day and love it. For reasons you can read below I won't be upgrading this year. My 15P still does everything I need right now, and though the new Fusion Cameras are interesting they're not enough to sway me. Beyond the cameras I'm not sure what else there is really to mark the 17P out over the 15P for me - slightly better processing power, slightly larger screen, better front facing camera, longer video playing time, none of that is a great pull for me. I came to the 15P from the iPhone 12 (and to that from an XR), perhaps three years is about the right time for me, but each to their own
Longer story: In October 2024 I found the telephoto lens would not focus. I took it to my local Apple Store, they easily replicated the issue and replaced the rear camera module under
consumer law coverage as they described it (part goodwill, part UK consumer rights). In July 2025 I noticed issues with the touch screen when the top left corner of the screen got wet (first noticed after going for a bike ride in light rain). Once again took it to the Apple Store having deliberately triggered the issue (a single tiny drop of water on the top corner was enough) and they easily detected the issues and this time replaced the display (again writing it off as
consumer law coverage). Roll on September and thanks to the wonderful British weather I end up getting caught in a torrential downpour while texting a friend. I put the phone into my pocket fairly quickly (the rain was heavy enough I couldn't reliably type, the touch screen was very hard to use) and thought nothing of it. Later that evening I noticed the front camera showed signs of condensation on it. Shortly after that (around two hours after the downpour) Face ID stopped working, followed later that evening by the rear cameras misting over (a FaceTime call the following day using the rear cameras made it look like there was a thick mist over the fields I was attempting to show on the call). I booked another Apple Store appointment and took the phone in while it was still showing signs of condensation. This time they said there was nothing they could do as it was liquid damage but offered to "repair it" by sending it away at a cost of £699. Given it's a two year old phone I declined this service, thanked them and left hoping that the phone would dry out. While walking away from the store I had second thoughts, the phone is advertised as having an IP68 rating, meaning it should withstand 6m of water for 30 minutes, I'd been in a downpour which hardly compared (though I accept the humid environment of a waterproof jacket pocket probably didn't help). I returned to the store and spoke to the geniuses again to politely argue my point, particularly as the display had been replaced two months prior. They insisted that the unit would have been sealed as-new when they'd replaced the display and so it was highly unlikely to be a manufacturing issue and more likely wear and tear. They did however offer to open up the phone to examine the internals in case anything did look awry. As I had nothing to lose (if they found nothing of note they'd give it me back in the same condition) I thanked them and said to go ahead. Two hours later I returned to the store and they explained that when they opened it there were extensive signs of water ingress with all the moisture stickers having been triggered. However they also found evidence of dust ingress, and because they could not be certain that this occurred after they'd re-sealed the phone following the display replacement they said it was possible that this had lead to the adhesive not working properly and thereby causing the water ingress. As it happened they had my exact model and colour in stock as a refurbished handset and so they offered to swap it there and then. As a result I walked out with an in effect brand new iPhone 15 Pro, with a zero count battery, which will hopefully last me for a good while to come. Boy am I glad I decided to go back into the store and try again to politely argue my point!
