To everyone praising the 512GB of base storage: Beware. This could be cheaper NAND technology, with shorter durability. apple doesn’t reduce its margins normally, if they aren’t charging 200$ for a jump in storage from 256GB to 512GB, maybe it is because this is a much cheaper NAND, like TLC or even QLC (which is trash, durability wise).

I hope they have a service to replace your SSD during the first 5-6 years of the notebooks life.

Apple had been charging $1,000/TB for flash upgrades when Flash prices were as low as $150/TB. (Or to be fair, $300/TB for high speed NVME). I've been waiting forever for them to finally pass on some of the savings to customers. Regarding speed, there is nothing I do where I would personally notice the difference. I still get 2GB/second sustained from my 2015 MBP with the slower OWC upgrade. Only people who work with RAW 4K need be concerned here - and I would bet many of them use external RAIDs for the capacity.

BTW, I could be wrong, but I would be utterly dismayed to see Apple use QLC NAND - it doesn't save much money and it has significantly slower transfer rates. If there's one thing Apple has stressed thus far, it's high speed at any price.

I want to buy a MacBook, but i don't agree with how they are doing things now. I used to upgrade every 2 years or so. They used to always have the latest processors, hard drive tech, screen tech etc. Now it seems they cut corners to save a few bucks.
If a Mac isn’t going to make you happy, buy a PC. Life’s too short.

ThinkPads are nice.

Which are those indications? Because QLC NAND can be pretty fast. I hope some website will be able to determine the NAND technology of this SSDs

Well, do you have anything to back up the suggestion they using anything else? Didn't think so.

This is why I'd wait for trusted reviews before opening my wallet.

And it's unrealistic to expect service after 5-6 years. In 5-6 years time this 16" MBP will be a relic.

10GigE gulp power and generate a lot of heat.

I'm almost always plugged in when using ethernet, so power is of no concern. Heat is a different matter, but Apple have historically been good at finding solutions to problems so they are first to market, or first to market with a working solution.

This should have been at the top of the article:

"The new Magic Keyboard features a refined scissor mechanism with 1 mm travel for a responsive, comfortable, and quiet typing experience. The Touch Bar puts powerful shortcuts front and center, and Touch ID provides fast authentication. A dedicated Escape key allows quick switching between modes and views. And the inverted-T arrow keys enable fluid navigation whether you’re flying through lines of code, navigating spreadsheets, or gaming."

I'm getting a ruler and trying to measure the travel distance on my 2015MBP keys for comparison. And for all of you that have been holding off getting a new Mac until you could finally have inverted T arrow keys, it's time to go dancing in the streets!

And an 8TB SSD with 64GB RAM and top end Radeon for $6K? Amazing!
If this keyboard feels good, I'm going to be one happy customer. :) :) :)

I just bought a 2019 13” with 16 GB if RAM and 512 GB of storage and with education pricing, it came out to $2079. I’m contemplating returning it and buying the 16” for $120 more with education pricing since it’s a lot more powerful than my 13” and I’m not sacrificing portability really. Too bad they didn’t release this before I bought my 13” haha.

they did however absolutely wreck resale value of 2018/2019 models, even 13", but 15" especially

Glad Apple finally admitted the butterfly keyboard is garbage and went with the magic keyboard. It has the perfect amount of key travel and is durable.

Here is a graph showing the keyboard travel (and spacing) for a range of laptops (and keyboards):
https://marco.org/2019/11/13/mbp16

It is about twice as much as that of the butterfly keyboard but still less than the 2015 MBP keyboard. But even the standalone Magic Keyboard has less travel than the 2015 MBP.

Thank you for the link.
The author seems to like it, so let's hope for the best. At least it's a small improvement.
