I am going to order one but we all would be crazy to buy now rather than wait until Black Friday and get the Gift Card for free...

To everyone praising the 512GB of base storage: Beware. This could be cheaper NAND technology, with shorter durability. apple doesn’t reduce its margins normally, if they aren’t charging 200$ for a jump in storage from 256GB to 512GB, maybe it is because this is a much cheaper NAND, like TLC or even QLC (which is trash, durability wise).

I hope they have a service to replace your SSD during the first 5-6 years of the notebooks life.

Honestly, the chances of Apple putting anything other than top-shelf NAND in their flagship laptop is close to nil. Why would they want to save a few bucks just to ruin the good press they knew this laptop would bag?

Any reasons not to opt for an i7 model? Mostly for business use with moderate GPU tasks. No heavy video editing or anything.

Two weeks is more than generous.
Dell is 21 days, HP 30 days, Lenovo 30 days
How long does it take to work out if you like or not?
A new design with new GPU means we are all beta testers. Some things you'll find in two weeks, but others might take longer (e.g. T2-chip crashes, Vega-like-flickering, keyboard failure, etc.)

Seems reasonable to wait a day or two since November 14 is usually the beginning of holiday returns...

The i7 is still a very good CPU. If you wait a few weeks you can probably pickup a used i9 for the same price.

A more common sense approach is to not buy it the moment it's released and wait a few weeks for feedback before splashing 2.5-6+ grand on new tech.

A step in the right direction for the 16-inch MBP and let’s hope Apple can be more proactive in fixing its mistake instead of launching the keyboard replacement program.

Total fan-serve. Yet, there's still something for some people to whine about. Classic Apple product launch.
Well it is impossible to please evryone, and the once that feel let down becorse the feater they wanted was not added/ their pet hate was not fixed will complain

Back to the future. I have a mid-2012 MBP Retina (i7, 16GB Ram, 512GB ssd) which still works perfectly. Now it seems I can upgrade to a 16" machine and get a keyboard that (may) be as good as my old one, a slightly bigger screen, better speakers (which I don't need), a battery that lasts longer (which I don't need), I can buy dongles for all my USB-A extras, and I can pay $2500 or so (including the dongles). I guess I'm not the person the new machine is intended for. Is it really that much better than the 7 1/2 year old MBPR? Not for me, at least.

Is that including tax?

If it is, then you have a 'discount' compared to us on this side of the atlantic of over 1700 dollars. That's insane!
Ah, no good point. But I don't have a discount because I don't live in the US. I just used their store because my store doesn't show any prices beyond the base configs. But a quick extrapolation shows that for me it'd be about a 6% 'over' (~$400 more) charge, if their upgrades use the same exchange rate as the base config is.

I was looking at the following:

  • 2.6GHz 6-core 9th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz
  • 32GB 2666MHz DDR4 memory
  • AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 4GB of GDDR6 memory
  • 512GB SSD storage

Wasn't sure if there is a day to day difference in noticeable performance with the i9 over the i7.

Ok, ok... I have to admit that I was too suspicious (I’m a bit too obsessed about SSDs longevity) and despite those silly fears, this is a great value for a great machine. I’m waiting for a 14” MacBook Pro or even better, a MacBook Air with this new Magic Keyboard, base 256GB and a newer, more capable CPU/GPU.

Is the RAM soldered to the board? It would be great to be able to go after market.
