Now that the thermals are improved, do you think it makes sense to opt for i9 9980HK? Also is the 8GB GPU upgrade worth it? I'm trying to decide on configuration and I can't seem to find any real world benchmarks yet. It would be useful to at least see how thermals improved the CPU performance in geekbench.

For the love of Steve stop complaining.

They keep base specs low to keep the entry price down.

They were never going to get rid of Touch Bar.

It has better heat management.

They fixed the keyboard.

They gave you a physical escape key.

Entry price is reasonable.

This is what you asked for.

Now stop not picking on the singular aspect that you disagree with and be happy.

yeah but what about those nice Skylake CPU we were waiting for?

(nice to see you again here around, mate!)

By the way, I just saw in iJustine's unboxing that the new 16 inch model is NOT the same size as the previous 15 inch model. That's odd, i thought it was a bigger screen in the same package!

It basically is the same size, however technical yes, it is slightly different now.

Macbook Pro 2019 15 inch:
Height: 0.61 inches (1.55cm)
Width:13.75 inches (34.93cm)
Depth: 9.48 inches (24.07cm)
Weight: 4.02 pounds (1.83kg)

Macbook Pro 2019 16 inch:
Height: 0.64 inch (1.62 cm)
Width: 14.09 inches (35.79 cm)
Depth: 9.68 inches (24.59 cm)
Weight: 4.3 pounds (2.0 kg)

Either way, for those worried that the 16 inch wouldn't fit in a 15 inch leather bag, I think we shall be fine.

I'm sad. Upgraded in August to the 2019 MBP, didn't know 100% at the time there would be another release so close! Especially one with improved thermals...

Did they put back in the ports? Or is this thing still dongle madness?

Still "just" the 4 usb-c thunderbolt 3 ports.

We'll soon be in to year 4 of this on the MBP, so at what point should be just be accepting that its the new standard and plan to buy some new cables or a small hub for our gear? There's no shortage of all-in-one hubs/dongles now at all price points as well as many native usb-c peripherals.

Interesting tidbit that I haven’t seen mentioned yet:

this means the display supports all the refresh rates commonly used for movies and TV shows (or exactly 2x.) I’m surprised they didn’t get DolbyVision certification

They knocked $1000 off from what I paid for the same specs on the previous model. This is absolutely the best problem to have.

Well, I think you answered your own question about Schiller. He's a marketing guy, and a company man. To be fair, what choice did he have? Pretty sure he had a gun to his head. I mean when Steve asked him to literally jump out of a window, he said "How high?" and then did it onstage. Puppet.
Well that doesn’t say much (good) about Schiller if he got up on stage and shilled for a product he either knew to be faulty or didn’t believe in.
They shouldn't need to be fixed, but the fact is they are that problematic if you are disputing that then I guess that is all we need to know about you and your affair with Apple. It was not so easy to get it fixed, I and many others can vouch for that.

Possibly, but get real, nobody is going to stand on stage and say "I am not sure about this one, but buy it anyway". I am sure they all believed in it at the time, maybe.
I’m not disputing there were problems. I’m disputing that one person was responsible and apparently then put a gun to everyone’s head saying this keyboard will ship or else. Are we really supposed to believe the head of hardware engineering, operations and marketing plus the CEO all were powerless to stop a faulty keyboard design from shipping? And to believe the person allegedly responsible for the keyboard design was perfectly happy shipping a faulty design for reasons unknown? I’m sorry that’s ridiculous.

I think Rene Ritchie gets it right but because he’s considered an Apple apologist/shill people will say he’s just making excuses.

Perhaps time was limited and DolbyVision needed to do various certification checks. Perhaps we'll see that with next years model.

This guy really complaining about "Dongle Madness" in 2019? For ****'s sake.

It's like complaining that the iMac didn't have a floppy drive in 2001. It's time to move on.
I always love these diehard Apple fanatics that think their only use case is right and anybody that complains is wrong.

You're right, it's 2019 and for some reason there is not a single USB 3.0 port on the damn computer. Soooooo innovative

Still too expensive. Nitch product for 0,1% of Apple's users base.

Too expensive relative to what? I've only got an iPhone and a gaming desktop, while I'm here sitting and thinking about if I should buy the 16 inch to replace my desktop.

Wut?

MacBook Pro's (or is that MacBook's Pro? Gruber would know) have been one of Apple's most popular if not the most popular Mac lines for many years.

I know right. Imagine being so arrogant as to think everyone wants to use SD cards or HDMI or ten year old USB ports. I don't need to tell you, it's a good thing they use more flexible ports, so people can use whatever external accessories they want, and just use a different cable to attach it, right?

So to you, including 10 year old ports is "innovative", but including ports with 8 times the bandwidth and the ability to either adapt back to your USB keyboard or literally run a GPU externally (amongst other things) is not innovative?

I've decided to return my 2019 13" I got 8 days ago and get this bad boy. I don't necessarily have anything wrong with my 13", but this has things I really want back (scissor switch keyboard, a dGPU, larger battery) and seeing as I'm a computer science student, these things will really benefit me in the long run.

Just measured my beloved 2015 MBP keyboard, and it seems like it's about a mm travel! So this is sounding awesome!
